ugh for non-rythmic people...he NEVER gets off beat, the beat NEVER changes, he simply comes in certain points of the song at different points than the recorded version, yes his voice is sometimes faster and sloweer at certain points but its a different way to sing the song, the BEAT never changes, its just different from what your used to...Mat Kearney is amazing!

This video illustrates the problem with his live performance. His rythm is either off or he chooses to be "off". Either way, it alienates audiences. How can you sing along with him being off and changing his phrasing? I'm sure it keeps it interesting for him but not for the audience. I can do a better job with his own song on rythm. Don't get me wrong, this dude is awesome and his songs and lyrics are top notch. Voice is great. Its just the performance itself.

This is a difficult song to keep on rhythm simply because the song on the album has multitracked vocals. No doubt he "sang" and "rapped" on different tracks, thus allowing him to come in earlier during the switchover. It's something that artists often don't think about when they're taking advantage of multitracking, how difficult it'll be to recreate live. Queen had a really tough job playing Bohemian Rhapsody live - I saw them try 3 times in the 80's :)
