Atrocities can never be condoned. Collective guilt is not real, it's just something people invent to justify their actions. Understandable is not the same as acceptable.

And dont forget that the germans were not the only ones to commit atrocities. Does that mean that collective guilt applies to other countries as well?

The bottom line of what I am trying to enlight people with, is that Germany was treated very bad by the allies and the Soviet Union in particular during WWII. Terror bombing of cities and genocide and ethnic cleansing in the east with several million victims can not be shuffled under the carpet by us, even though we won the war and were in a position to decide what the official history should sound like. It is stupid to do so and allows neonazis a fertile situation.

The Germans were the agressors, and we can understand why the Soviets wanted revenge. Germany deserved the treatment they got. Still my point is that the treatment the Germans received shouldn't be omitted out of our European history.

Soviet Union was a brutal dictatorship with no respect for the life of anybody, including it's own citizens, who did oppose. Sjukov/Stalin sacrificed 200.000 men, when they the war was won, just to try to capture Berlin for the 1st of May celebration.

Stalin was arming for attacking Europe, but the campaign was not to start before mid -40s. Hitler knew this and wanted to attack before to late. Abt strength: On both fronts the Germans were outnumbered by 3-5 already in the beginning of WW2. In the end the relation was 10:1. Due to supreme equipment, tactics and excellent organization and skills the Germans were successfull the first years. I am glad the Reich was beaten, but let's not forget that Stalin was more crazy than anyone of this era.

If the Soviet Union had not received massive western supplies of military equipment like tanks and aircrafts, maybe Germany had succeeded in the east. And if Germany had not attacked soviet Union then the rest of Europe would have been speaking Russian by now. Stalin was planning an attack on Europe to bring communism to Europe. In many ways we can thank those German soldiers who died on the eastern front that we are not living on a communistic continent.

A word on the invincibility of German arms. People seem to forget that ALL of the countries invaded by them were unprepared both in material and temperamenatal terms, but once they got their acts together at Stalingrad and El Alamein - no more blitzkreig.

you can understand russia ,after losing so many people and suffering so much,not wanting to give up captured land,another factor of the cold war was when russia stopped all western routes into berlin, all food convoys were stopped,west berlin surrounded ,resulting in the berlin air lift,after agreeing to dividing berlin wanted the west out.

Did Hitler kill at least 10-20 million of his own people? The general estimates of the number of Russians killed by Stalin are between 30-40 million. Nonetheless, Hitler is indirectly responsible for quickening the inevitable extinction of the entire Germanic race.
