Avoid combos? You mean teleports and mega crashes? Both of those cost a ki bar. All combos are possible against an opponent who doesn't have a ki bar left.

I cannot pull these off online and don't know anyone who can. The lag is disgusting and completely throws off the timing for all complex combos. Online, I only stick to simple stun and juggle combos, which is more than enough to own the newbs online, but not NEARLY as badass as I can be when playing against my friends offline.
canceling the energy ball is waaaay easier to cancel than canceling a smash attack...at least to me....

same way as guard cancels, when you charge up the energy blast you simply guard during the charge up without letting go than attack

No, I've seen people use combos similar to that online, where there was a lot of lag present (half a second delay).

No there's lag on the 360 version also; button lag but it still kills timing when trying to pull off combos like this
