Perhaps because I first heard this cycle sung by Fischer-Dieskau, I still prefer his interpretation of the Lieder. Indeed, that record was also my introduction to Mahler and the depth of his work as a composer.
Vielleicht weil ich zum ersten Mal Mahlers 'Lieder eines fahrenden Gesellen' von Fischer-Dieskau gesungen hören habe, ziehe ich seine Darstellung noch vor alle anderen. Zwar war dieselbe Platte meine Einführung in Mahlers weitere Werke als Komponist.
