@rbeoulve It doesn't matter how old the comment is. It still stands. Do you suffer epilepsy? If you did you might view things a bit differently. A friend of mine was fit and healthy up until the age of 18, then she was struck down with multiple sclerosis. Was that her destiny too? Or was she just one of the lucky ones?
I ignored, denied and desperately tried to cover up my seizures. But angry and frustrated at waking up in emergency rooms, I use to jump out of Ambulances until I started falling in to deep sleep in ICU and was hooked to MRI and EEG machine. Finlay, they traced my seizures and I'm waiting for brain surgery after years of every thing frustrating under the sun.
Can you please help me end my homelessness and stop my seizures by having brain surgery and live as normal life as I always had before being struck with endless Grand Mal seizures for 10 years.
they also didn't mention that you should try and turn them on their side so that the salivation does not block their airway. it is also easier to keep their head from banging on the ground this way.
They did not explain that you do NOT want to restrain a seizing patient!!! During a seizure, a seizing person could possibly break a bone in the process of trying to get free. DO NOT RESTRAIN A SEIZING PATIENT!!!!!! DO NOT PLACE ANYTHING IN THE MOUTH OF A SEIZING PATIENT!!!!!! It has been said, years ago, that a seizing patient could swallow their tongue but that is untrue. It is IMPOSSIBLE for a seizing patient to swallow their tongue, therefore NOTHING should be placed inside the mouth.
As a Certified First Responder, I can say that this seizure was indeed a tonic-clonic (or "grand mal") seizure w/ violent convulsive episodes. Tonic-clonic seizures do feature jerking but not always violent, severe jerking like what was shown in this video. Informative video though.
Just to let everyone know, These things are real, Plus I had them last month. It has affected my memory. I can barely get my sentences in order. Currently I am taking phenytoyn(feni - to - in) I take two in the am, then two in the pm. My grand mal has been controlled. these meds are in the wal mart program for 4 bux. It should save some bux on your living expenses.
Being in the medical field (somewhat), I can say that the jerking movements in this video is very exaggerated. Don't get me wrong. Some tonic-clonic seizures (otherwise known as a "grand-mal seizure) can feature such severe jerking but most are just contractions of the muscles which are minimally visible, if at all. But this video does give some insight on the first aid regarding tonic-clonic seizures.
Very simplified. Didn't mention that breathing may stop and the blue colour people go. Not every one twitches like that - can just contract all muscles constantly for 3 - 10 minutes. No mention of post seizure emotional state (anrgy, sad, scared). Needs an update for the current day.
