  • I was at this race a bit down the track in the outside stands and I only got a glimpse of the accident but it sure got my attention!

  • These indycar catch fences would be better if they were put on backwards...

Conoway, Brack and Wheldon are only 3 victims of this...

  • Very lucky that his head don't hits the wall D:

  • Actually, this looks most like the crash Zempedri had in the late 90's. It was also on the last lap and on a spot on the track close to where this crash occurs. While this was in the short chute between 3&4, Zampedri's was a little bit further down, at the beginning of the front stretch.

  • This shows that cars are so much safer now

Look at this crash, mark webber in Valencia f1, they keep getting better, than we are reminded that it is not always that safe

    RIP WHELDON

  • I cringed when he mentioned Wheldon.

  • That in car view is insane

  • that must have been so surreal for RHR. Ironic that he said it reminded him of the Wheldon accident, when just a year later thats how he was killed.

  • It is true that something should be done regarding head safety of Indycar on ovals. But this problem should have been addressed long ago, and before someone died. Sadly, actions only take effect when tragedy happens... And this is not a freak crash, this danger has always been inherent to single-seaters and it has always been on my mind ever since I started watching CART in the 90's, and I always wondered why no one ever thought of doing something about it before some tragedy occurred...

  • Look how close his head came to hitting the car at :08

  • They are going to have to do something about the safety of this series. 200+ mph with the drivers head exposed ain't gonna make it. Closed cockpit, heavy roll bar or something is necessary.

  • this is an hugely inferior form of "motorsport".

  • @thepetemate91 notice how they mention dan wheldons crash in 3-4 in 2003

  • Horrific

  • at around 0:52 imagine what's going through this drivers mind, watching a colleague airborn above him flying into a catch fence.. horrible.

  • @MGPadamh442 The driver would probably be like"im screwed"

  • scary crash, like franchitti in kentucky in 2007... and Wheldon last weekend... RIP Dan

  • The biggest difference between what happened here and what happened at Vegas is that Vegas is actually somewhat of a faster track in that the corners come at you faster and the track is small enough to fit inside of Indy. Team that up with bad organizing on the part of the officials for putting 34 cars on that track and close together and you have a recipe for disaster and unfortunately it took Wheldon's life. RIP Dan Wheldon.

  • @mohawkman251988 Well the only real difference was that Conway hit the fence floor first and Wheldon hit it head first, which is what caused his injuries. It seems Indycar's been incredibly lucky not to have more deaths in recent years.

  • What the commentator says... "...this reminds me almost of Dan Wheldon's crash"

  • that was freaking awesome

  • "He was incredibly lucky that he did not go head into that fence" Yes Conway was lucky. Wheldon went head on to the fence and he died.

  • with all the respect, but this indy races are retarded. going 33 cars full speed all time in an oval is like a recipe for disaster.

  • dans luck ran out today

  • @MadThad0890 yeah.

  • If he crash head on the fences, we would see live the worst crash ever, a bloodbath literally

  • @ApocalypseForFree well it happened :(

  • @calfan3 :( Unfortunately...

  • I remember this live i was shokced he made it it was the 3rd worst crash ive seen

  • q paulada!

  • sick screenshot around 0:52

  • I remember watching this and saying, "Oh shit" :D

  • This is what F1 is all about.

  • @MrDevlance

this is not F1 its indycar

  • @MrDevlance F1 doesn't run on ovals

  • The saftey in these indy cars i will never understand

  • Sometimes people forget that racing is dangerous, wrong time, wrong place

  • 0:26 yeah you win that race wheel

  • Wow!!

  • oh my good

  • I'm not sure who was luckier to be honest....Conway or RHR. Probably RHR for not having Conway's car impact his helmet on its way down from the fence.

  • i rember seeing this... i thought i just saw someone die.... with my brother while he was waching his first indy 500....

  • At 1:03 the camera guy is has got confused because the car he was filming vanished

  • you know what was ''epic''' (fucking hate that teenage loser word) was how hunter was maintaining the correct path of travel while going backwards at over 200km/h talent

  • best on board camera replay ive ever seen...Ryan was so lucky....but this was Epic

  • Comment removed

  • Did he even try to qualify this year?

  • Ryan Hunter-Reay was also lucky, so many debris almost went to the helmet of Ryan.

  • @NASCARWWEclubpenguin nascar sucks,, its like watching slot cars go in a fucking circle......

  • Anyone explain me whats the difference of indy 500,cart cars and champ cars? And what was the fastest cars of those 3. thnx :)

  • @Da40cal To make a long hairy story short... they're basically all the same. CART was a league that went bankrupt but returned as Champ Car. Champ Car then went out of business in 2008 and then merged with INDYCAR. All the leagues used different cars, but to the casual fan you cannot really tell much of a difference. INDYCAR will debut a new car next year (2012).

  • @BoilerByBlood thnx man :)

  • @Da40cal CART was the racing series that used to run "Indy Cars". Then in 1995, Indianapolis Motor Speedway started another series (IRL) and took the "IndyCar" name. CART then changed the name of their cars to "Champ Cars." Both CART and the IRL ran in different series until 2008 when CART dissolved and became part of the IRL. The Indy 500 is a single race which was a part of CART before it became one of the IRL series races in 1995. The CART cars were the fastest cars.

  • @nocalsteve F1 cars and drivers are far more superior. This crash wouldn't happen in F1.

  • @F1IsSuperior yeah sure....

  • @F1IsSuperior F1 drivers arn't allowed to cause crashes so they don't get anywhere near other cars because their pussys.

  • @F1IsSuperior

o why did webbers flip happen last year, why did schumacher crash into villenueve trying to win championship, why did raikkonen crash while battling with hamilton, why did hamilton crash at Monza 09, why did the redbull teammates crash lastyear why did webber crash today in practice why did kubica crash in 06/07, why did senna crash 1994 why did hamilton drive into raikkonen at canada why did button block hamilton till he crashed, why are theresomanycarprobsinF1 u useless troll

  • this race was awesome

  • WHY DO FORMULA 1 CARS HAVE NO CANOPY!? IF IT DID SENNA WOULD STILL BE HERE

  • @wtficantgetausername You know there's a difference between Indycar and F1 right?

  • @OMGtehWINNAR no but seriously why not put a canopy?! indycar F1 F3 who cares why does it have to be exposed at those speeds

  • Oval circuits are too dangerous IMO. They should follow example of Formula One, which hadn't had a fatal accident since 1994 (and before that, had stayed on a clean sheet from 1982).

  • I remembered seeing that one on TV.That was a really bad crash, glad to see those guys get out of that one ok, for the most part.

  • Those two are damn lucky...Conway for having only minor injuries for such a wreck and Hunter-Reay for not getting crushed by Conway's car going down...

  • @ursuss100 Exactly. Cars are getting safer, but the danger of getting plunked in the head is unfortunately still too real. We've lost too many drivers that way; Hunter Reay is fortunate.

  • @amish15552 Yeah we have.. RIP Formula 2 driver Henry Surtees, the timing of that tire was tragically awful..

  • 0:36 WOW BEST!

  • @1969captainron Exactly, he was lucky

  • I didn't see him getting a win this year, but good job at getting it done Mike!

  • he won today =D I'm so so so happy!!

  • Conway just won at Long Beach today :)

  • I was sitting in the southwest vista deck and had no idea what happened...everybody in my section knew Franchetti was trying to save fuel and was letting cars pass...then he goes into the warm-up lane (because of the crash) and everybody thought for a few seconds that he ran out of fuel. This year I'm bringing a radio!

  • i didnt know he has a pilots license

  • I think that at 0:37 Ana Beatriz (the car in front of Helio) was just like "fk it, I aint drivin through that"

  • Love the fact, that nobody died in this video

  • 0:27 notice the tire is still racing "i can win this!!!"

  • @1969captainron Yes, i consider him more lucky than Conway

  • Man who drive like hell bound to get there.

  • 0:15, got airborne and could have flipped 0_o

  • the Indy 500 track is too small.. I think they should run the 500 mile race on I 465

  • @MrBoy219 XD I'd love to see that

  • Sounds like starwars pod racing

  • I just noticed for the first time that one of his tires went through the fence and landed under the grandstands... everyone is so lucky that the crash wasn't so much worse

  • wow it's crazy how pretty much everything on the outside of the car just jettisons away during a crash

  • i shat bricks when i saw this

  • awesome

  • I want rootbeer

  • Happy guy, thank goodness it's almost did not happen!

  • i was at that race when it happend

  • My little boy loves to see these wrecks. Does this mean he may become an ambulance driver?

  • @JosephDillon57 no he might just become a serial killer:)

  • lmao i swear i could hear someone making sound effects when it went slow motion

  • Ryan Hunterayy, Luckiest Fucker in the world

  • The most dangerous looking indy-crash I´ve seen in years.

  • is that the worst crash in racing history?

  • @MaltonBranch........ A poor man's F1?... Not quite.... The level of skill to race at these speeds is unmatched. Sure F1 speeds are close BUT to do it for three or more hours takes some serious endurance and concentration. Im sure most F1 drivers would race well at Indy but you can't compare road racing and oval racing. Dumbass........

  • @andy23822 got to disagree with you on that one, Indy does take a huge amount of skill and endurance no doubt but IMO the skill and concentration required to driver a F1 car is higher, racing on ovals is, to put it simply, driving in a big circle but to drive a F1 car around "road courses" is far more technical and physically the G forces are higher, more extreme, far more violent and they're not on the same neck muscles all the time like indy is, which is harder than 1 or 2 extra hours of indy.

  • @cocorocks88 IRL has more road/street courses than ovals..

  • i was at this race in my dads race team suite but i saw it on the tv. Wow what a hit

  • say this at the race omg it was scary know it like wow thats just....... idk it just scarey that people are still doing it that can hapen and they can die if there something wrong

  • OUCH!!!!

  • dam i wonder wat mike was thinking wail flying throw the air

  • @ochoafunes Im sure it was along the lines of "ooooooooooooooooooh shiiiiiiiiiiiiiii" *Wham* into the fence.

  • omg ryan hunter reay was lucky that the damaged car didnt hit him in the head, that was really close, thank god everyone was ok

  • A poor mans F1!

  • @maltonbranch F1 is a richman's IRL, I mean yes they do look almost the identical, but F1's more boring; F1 should make they're sport close to the IRL, desides the oval racing, just as fast as F1, if they are, then they seen to be going 90mph, the only advantage to oval racing is they show they're speeds, but with road course racing, they don't just have lefts, they also have rights; look at Walkens Glenn, that used to be an F1 track, same with Indy, hell, the streets were even apart of the....

  • @frankisfunny2007 track, look at the middle if the track!! A road course for F1, also for AMA

  • Wow. That must've sucked.

  • scary crash for sure

  • I was at that race , saw it as it happened. Everybody in our grandstand thought he was dead on impact

  • @adams235366

i guess everyone in your grandstand was wrong

  • @superd00d89 why are you such a douche?

  • they should do talledega see how high they go

  • here comes iron man

  • saggy balls

  • they say he might be back by infineon!

  • Ryan Hunter Reay is lucky he did not get hit in the head by Conway's car. Very lucky

  • Comment removed

  • I want to sit in this car!^^

and nothing have hurt an dosent death

  • Conway was "this" close to nailing Ryan in the head with his car.

  • Buy a lotto ticket!

  • He only suffered like a broken leg or something thank God

  • @uthetube09 god has nothing to do with that ...

Safety regulations and luck as more to do with it.

  • @uthetube09 and a broken back

  • @uthetube09 and sprained his back. i was there

  • @uthetube09 I believe he only broke his foot. Thank god for safety these days. If this was 70's, he'd be dead.

  • @ROBLOXdude95 I wreckon if this was the early 2000's he'd be dead too

  • @uthetube09 why the hell do you thank god??? You should thank brilliant engineers and drivers like senna who promoted safety in open wheelers.

  • In soviet Russia car crash you

  • @Dicidar400 Did you fail your English Classes

  • 0:04 to 0:13 = Best 2 Tires Drift 4EVAH!

  • unbelieveable that he survived seriously... its wierd thinkin that mike only lived like 5 miles from my house when he was younger.

  • Epoustouflant. Chance avec!!

  • @sporkfed89 no, he didn't died

  • IS HE STILL ALIVE????

  • @TheGEARS15 yep, messed his leg up though

  • Helio is one cool customer.

  • damn that was one hell of a view at :50 crazy shit

  • the accident here is very similar to the crash of Tom Sneva back in 1975. The engine and transaxle was ripped completely of the tub by the catchfence. Moreover like Sneva"s crash in 1975, the major part of the impact was tail and bellypan first. The accident happened in the same fashion as Conway's right rear wheel climbed over Hunter-Reay's left front. See Tom Sneva's accident in '75, and compare. Thanks for posting, VJ.

  • Damn how did english dude not die?

  • holly shit

  • what a mercy the car flew over the cockpit of that guy

  • What do you expect to happen when you race at 230 mph. Very lucky to only suffer a broken leg and a small fracture in his back.

  • 0:39 he just got jizzed on

  • @IMN666 freak

  • @IMN666 it was actually 240 degree engine coolant and a 14 pound radiator that nearly killed castroneves.....just sayin.

  • @penske13 lol

  • @IMN666 I do believe that's shit from the guy shitting his pants in the crashing vehicle...

  • is this F1 for rednecks ?

  • @ClickHere2CMyAccount No! Why would it be?

  • @ClickHere2CMyAccount No! Why would it be?

  • @ClickHere2CMyAccount No, jackass, NASCAR is F1 for rednecks. This is Indy car racing. Entirely different.

  • @catwoman6226 Don't you just hate how stupid people are?

  • cool

  • @djfjsd45

im sorry, i understand that it may be an spectacular accident, but imagine if the care goes trough the fence??? or if the pilot died??

i know this is youtube, but not even joking this coulded be a very sirious for envolved persons
