  • He should be happy so many people are listening to it and using it as a tool to improve thier lives.

  • damn my internet is so slow.........

  • When did this commercial first air?

  • @ChocolateRocker23 1997. I know because it was right after the Packers won SuperBowl XXXI. It's one of the reasons you see Brett Favre in it at 0:50.

  • This was the Nike commercial that aired during the Superbowl that the Broncos and Packers were in. Of course the Broncos won. :)

  • @S13driftAZ Actually this commercial was aired before that superbowl. I remember before that game when they talked about Brett Favre, you heard this song in the background.

Oh and I'm a Broncos fan too btw! (: Green Bay is once again defending their title. At the beginning of the season I said if any team will stop them this year, it sure as hell won't be the Broncos! lol

  • I was 12 the first time I saw this commerical and it was the first time i'd ever heard bittersweet symphony. I really wish i could go back and watch myself listen to my favorite song of all time for the first time.

  • Football: The Greatest Sport In Creation.

(actual football, not the american helmet-ass-hand-crap)

  • i got the shivers watchin this.

  • classical!

  • I can.. with canesten

god damn yeast infection commercial ruined the saying

  • Great .. Superb... :)

  • whenever I doubt myself I think back to this commercial and I turn unstoppable

  • My Humanities professor recorded the black and white clip of the men running on the beach back in the sixties :)

  • whats the song?

  • @nate18871 bitter sweet symphony by the verve

  • 0:13 that's holding dumbass

  • @AGWilder shut the fuck up and enjoy the video

  • @AGWilder Thats not holding retard. Learn how to play football and you'd understand.

  • @itwaslikethatalready fucking piece of shit!!! it suppose to be inspirational not a hating video for you piece of shit!!

  • @sandiagoism U mad bro?

  • why it's so short... :(

  • "The last thing I wanted on the world is that one of my song were used on an ad" -Richard Ashcroft (Author of the song)

  • @seguidordejesus1 por eso odio este comercial , richard no permitio que se usara bitter en el comercial , pero luego el manager que se apropio de esta cancion les dio permiso a nike , simplemente detestable.

  • @seguidordejesus1 yes, but it was not his fault..you know it

  • @seguidordejesus1 Pretentious bunk I believe. How sad his ego would rather have this song as a morose anthem for self-absorbed emo teens than as an inspiration with a much broader appeal.

  • who is 0:47?

  • "edutorial"?

  • I can ... has cheezburger!!!!

  • this commercial always brings me back to january 1998 in the weeks and days leading up to super bowl xxxii

  • I love this commercial, but you know that part that says "I can get a faster dog"?

    That shouldn't be there.

  • @CascadX lmao that's my favourite part

  • i want to be that old man running up the stairs when im older! js

  • I still hate Allen Klein.

  • This commercial changed my life

  • The Verve made this song yet the Rolling Stones sue The Verve, take all royalties and let's Nike use it without Verve's permission... Life is bittersweet.

  • @TheGR8MenEWC the verve sampled the rolling stones without the stones' consent, won 100% royalties, and then sold it to nike for the ad. so the song (although performed by the verve) belongs to the stones and therefore they can do with it as they please. life is bittersweet indeed but hey shit happens, that's the law.

  • funny things is usually the people who wearing nikes in my gym were some noob :D

  • I completely miss the words nike in most of their ads,,,, because by the time they show it, at the end of the video, i am completely lost in the message they have just shown...

  • FUCKING BULLSHIT !!

  • what instrumental is that?

  • @chrisbym bittersweet symphony

  • Вдохновляет!!!!

  • Вдохновляет

  • I rememebr this commercial from back in the day........the good old days!

  • I was holding my newborn daughter the first time I saw this, imagining all that was ahead of her in life; brought tears to my eyes then as it does now. If a commercial can be a work of art, this is it.

  • how can anyone dislike this ?

  • OMG this music is so amazing

  • The Verve were sued for copyright infringement by the Stones former manager, Allen Klein"Klein ended up with 100% of the royalties, capitalizing on the success of the song, licensed "Bittersweet Symphony" to Nike, who proceeded to run a multi-million dollar television campaign using the song synchronized to shots of its sneakers.Mick Jagger and Keith Richards were named as songwriters and ABKCO Music (and hence Allen Klein) was given full publishing rights to the song.

  • I choke up every time I see this. One of the most beautiful commercials every made. I don't think any other add encapsulates Nike's brand so effectively.

  • "Trying to make ends meet

You're a slave to money then you die"

The standard of nike products yet they left the lyric out lol.

  • One of the coolest commercials ever made, by any company. The old man running up the stairs at the end is priceless.

  • This commercial and the Leave Nothing ad with the football players are some of the best Nike ads in existence.

  • 0:25 Iron Cross

  • The child on "I can hang on" is fucking amazing. =')

  • I remember this! Gives me chills!!

  • @drewlovesvideos That's why I LOVE this commercial. Capitalism rules, communism sucks! Take that you hippie artists! Only one that tops this is Nike's "Instant Karma" commercial. Lennon would've love it!

  • not quite understanding 0:46 , can someone explain to me?

  • Comment removed

  • hell yeah, I can! I can remember this video from the 90's. I never thought I'd find it here. cpk0, thankx

  • i can

  • i can

  • Is there a link to the vid that has Favre saying, "I can be anything I want to be...except maybe an engineer"?

  • BGM is bittersweet symphony, so this is best nike commercial.

  • the verve-bittersweet symphony

  • i hope brett favre comes back to play!!! i know he "can" keep his streak alive of most consecutive starts

  • yeh but look what they've done for china...

  • i love the song bittersweet symphony, but the verve used a sample from the rolling stones 'the last time' and their former manager has the rights to the majority of bittersweet symphonies sales

  • The Stones' manager has ALL the rights to the song. The Verve's performance royalties for recording the song are neglible, but they have no say in how the song is used.

  • what year did this commercial come out?

  • Super Bowl XXXII 1998.

  • YES! I remember this commercial so vividly...being a Packers fan and all and seeing Brett in the commercial. I had been lookin for this commercial on youtube for years but couldn't seem to find it. So glad I did

of course, the result of that SB :(

  • CHEESE HEAD! :P

  • bet you have least one peice of nike merchandise in your house.

  • this was soo inspirational to mee!

  • Same here. I was in 11th grade, living in Frankfurt, IL, and running Indoor Track when this commercial came out.

Plus I was a big The Verve, The Verve Pipe, Matchbox 20, and Our Lady Peace fan at the time.

  • hey what song is this???

  • the verve - bitter sweet symphony

  • thanks:)

  • I love when this song plays on my ipod when I am finishing my long run. It is so inspirational. Thanks for all the memories Brett.

  • ddanor go to andrew oldem orchestra and listen to the last time it sounds just like bittersweet symphony its the string arrangement of the last time now the verve is one of my fav. bands but they did take a huge sample out of that song

  • The guy on 00:39

    is he squatting 200?

    Dayuum..

  • Truely one of the best inspirational commercial.

  • there was a black and white "I can" commercial that nike did. I loved the piano music in it. Anyone have that one?

  • I wish they still made inspirational commercials like this.

  • Greatest commercial of all time!!!!! Although all we got for being in it was a peanut butter and jelly sandwich.

  • best commercial ever!

  • This makes me sick. Allen Klein got away with using Richard Ashcroft's song because he somehow got the rights to it. The bit Ashcroft borrowed wasn't even used in this ad!!! That famous string riff was an original composition by Ashcroft and Wil Malone. How can Klein sleep at night! This is so wrong!

  • The string riff is simply a string version of the Adrew Oldham Orchestra's 'The Last Time'...which has a fair bit of strings in it to begin with. When you keep in mind very few people would know the song without the strings, it's not that outrageous that the rights go elsewhere.

  • where is the black and white "I can" commercial?!?!?!?!!?

  • Definitely look forward seeing the extended version!

  • anyone have the "extended" version of this commercial?

  • Bittersweet Symphony/ The Verve

  • what is the name of this song and who is the artist

  • Bittersweet Symphony/ The Verve

  • This has got to be one of the best Nike commercials I have ever seen. It just rips me up inside. I can't watch it without getting goose-bumps. Not that many commercials can cause tears. A beautiful, inspirational work of art.

  • I couldn't have said it better!
