The 12 string bass has a nice sound to it. I never liked 8 string basses. I called hammer and asked for a quote for 12 string lefty and they want something crazy like 3000 bucks. I guess i'll stick with my 5 string.
I can play this song for ages... Helps to warm up before rehearsals. It kinda stuck to me, because I like both the song and that riff :)
How's that Hamer bass feels? I play a Dean 12ver, they say it has a wider neck than Hamer, and that Hamer is therefore easier to play, but I guess I kinda got used to the Dean :) Wanted to know what someone thinks of "Thy great Hamer" =)
good cover nice bass great song playing it on a 4 string is just not the same but on the ending i like to follow the guitarist try it (jeff aments the shit)
Yep - Ocala, FL Perhaps you have if you've been out to any of the local bars or clubs that have live music. Been playing here since 2001 when I moved down from NJ.
No problem -- No I cant say I have. We Have not gone to any bars or anything. But next time I go down there Maybe we will go...whats the name of a place you go to?
That is hard to answer with a simple yes or no. It depends on the player, the bass you have to work with, how the bass is set up, the string gauges you are using, the strength of your grip, etc. And as I mentioned to others who have asked, getting used to playing on the flats of your fingers instead of the tips of your fingers which is how a single string should be played. It's something that would have to be tried by the person wanting to play to come to their own answer about the difficulty
@blackzabbathfan Not really - it would be more like FOUR typical bass string then 2 each per bass string nearly typical guitar thickness strings. An 8 string bass is the same except with one high string per bass string instead of two. Of course there are crazy basses out there that have as many as 20 INDIVIDUAL strings that is nothing like what I'm discussing here.
I can not speak for all Hamer basses but this American made 12-string I was lucky enough to get in mint condition for a good price...is made very well, balanced well even with the huge headstock. Plays like a dream considering you need to play three string for each note you are needing to produce. I hope this bit of info might help. Take care.
Glad you like the 12-string. Harder to play? Well in my opinion it's just very DIFFERENT in HOW you play it since you can't play with the tips of your fingers. You have to play it with the flats of your fingers in order to cover three string for each "note" you are playing. I guess it could be "harder", but I look at it as just different for the reasons I've already stated. I hope this helps answer your question. Take care.
I using a China ch12 i installed EMG's currently have it tuned BEAD , love it it cuts right thew 7 string guitars ! What are you using for AMP'S Effects?
I understand why you chose to play the low B if you are playing up against 7-string guitars. Those must be some pretty heavy "bass" strings to have any tension whatsoever.
I tried to explain it all here, but I went WAY over the character limit in trying, so please go to the other video for a detailed answer to your qeustion - thanks.
using the D'Addario set, replaced the 100/45/45 with 110/50/50 works good slight string buzz i had to get it set up in b tuning ajust the truss rods for the droped tuning. that low b is monsterus!
I know it's confusing as I get confused with the model numbers as well. But I can tell you that this model I have is the AMERICAN made 12-string Chaparral I think the correct model number for the USA version is B12-L not the CH12 that is made in China. I hope this helps.
Glad I could help. Honestly I've played on both the import and the USA model and yes there IS a difference, but honestly if you are not going to be playing 12-string nearly full-time, I'd save the huge difference in price and get the import. You could just swap out the cheaper pickups for the better EMG's in the USA model and you'll be pretty darn close in sound to the USA version. But bottom line, if you do not see the very small USA type underneath HAMER, then it's the import.
I've heard of 8 string basses but never a 12 string and I've played guitar for over 20 years. Just goes to show that playing guitar is a constant learning curve. :)
Thanks for the kind words. The 12-string bass was created for Tom Peterson of Cheap Trick back in the late '70's originally made by Hamer. His was nothing like the one I have, but this is now the only model Hamer makes as they are not too popular. The most popular 12-string bass nowadays is made by Waterstone and is semi-hollow body 3/4 scale.
Guess I need to get out more. Didn't know they even made a 12 string bass. But yes that was way cool. Liked it alot !!!! Keep in touch Neal.............JJS

Also, I mean to ask...is a 12 string hard to play? Would it be a difficult transition coming from a 4?
