This is the wisdom from the east and the technological power from the west world merging and spreading... Mathieux is a scientifik who quit his university carrier to become an inspiration. His role is important since he demolishes all cliches and misinterpretation of meditation.
I don't want to sound condescending, but as this wise man says, a lot of people's minds are clouded by popular culture and sociological conditioning; this causes unhelpful & negative pre-conceptions and connotations. Like what the mind/ego automatically associates with the word "meditation"; - the 60s, hippies, "wishy-washy" spiritualism. Negative stereotypes. This is a great shame. How much the ego obstructs us from inner truth. I sure me just saying this causes peoples' eyes to roll!
Yea exactly the mind sees the world in symbols if we hear a sentence like black man, some of us have a African tribe in mind others a Newyork gangster and so on, the brain is a machine that is totally constructed out of conditioning, thats why if you die the person you are now is impossible to exist because the person you are now is a construction from this world and out of this world you cannot relate anymore so you desolve, anyone on psychedelics understands this. peace
3:21 "Every other _______ is totally artifcial." Will someone please help me figure out what term he uses here? For some reason, I can't make it out. Thanks!
This is good, but the thing is there is no point in continuing life. We as a society should adopt more antinatalist ways. May we live happy if we exist now, but not create more suffering by bringing new people into the world. There is no point in doing that.
@hexcane thoughts do not have a power on their own. All the power they got it's the one you give them. If you are giving all the power to negative thoughts, like thoughts of hatred, then such thoughts will be in charge of your life. If you are only aware of any kind of thoughts then you witness their empty nature. They appear and disappear, no power on their own. You choose thoughts you want to feed.
@hexcane when you are aware of either positive or negative thoughts/emotions then you are strenghtening a faculty of mind that is called awarness. If you remain calm as well then you are cultivitaing a very special energy called mindfulness. Here, objects do not metter. good stuff, bad stuff, whatever object is fine: you remain aware of it and relaxed. Other way is to develope, on purpose, a positive state of mind, like metta, for example
This monk transcends buddhism in training us to be more effective citizens of humanity. I appreciate how he puts so much effort to explain ideas in what I guess is his second language. Not a particularly buddhist description either, so whether athiest, agnostic, catholic or jew, this teaching can be used by you. Two thumbs up!
That old man to the left felt unconfortable becouse Matthieu told the truth. He didnt know how to react to it and Matthieu reached a sensitive spot in him. He fought Mattiheus thoughts alla the way. He didnt want to hear it. He actually got a bit angry at the truth. I recognise that aura in a human. Its easy to read.
@funnystarchild or maybe his chair was uncomfortable from sitting for so long. he wouldntve been there if he didnt want to be there. the answer to everything doesnt have to be complicated.
@funnystarchild That old man is Richard Layard. He introduced Ricard's speech to the RSA and spoke very highly of him so I guess you didn't recognise the aura correctly.
I quote 'Ricard is one of the loveliest and most interesting people that I know.'
In fact he was so full of praise that Ricard said that he would meditate for 20 minutes on humilty, and he was blushing so that his robes were the same colour as his robes.
@JamieGibsonGuitar Whats wrong with you?? Dont say I dont respect or listen to this man! Just asked where to buy that robe omg. Im a Buddhist. Stop accusing me for thing at random. I just asked where to buy the robe. omg!!!

You love coming to clips about trying to find inner peace and happiness, to mock those trying to find it. I see.

Matthieu Ricard is one of the wisest people I've ever heard of. I look forward to hearing him speak in September.

@funnystarchild In your other post you said that the old man was angry and you could sense his aura.
I was just pointing out that they are close friends.
Don't get angry, it doesn't seem very in keeping with buddism.
