  • He escuchado cosas hermosas, pero es una de las cosas mas hermosas que he escuchado...

  • BRAVO !!!!!

  • It always gives a cellist a thrill to think that this great musical mind devoted attention to our instrument, and the result here is all we could hope.

  • 4:02 just a tad flat....haha but who cares he is amazing! great performance

  • Wow, it's amazing what drama Brahms created with just cello and paino! Terrific!

  • yup, he was the little boy. now he became a master! Bravo...

  • oh my god,

Is that the boy that was in the Documentary

    "Mao to Mozart" ?

  • He really plays it as a duet, Wang, that is. Example: 3:55-4:30

  • Phantastisch!

  • Jian, you play like a God, just like the way Rostropovich played during his prime.

  • It could be the fault of the recording. I'm not familiar with Jian Wang but he sounds awesome.

  • the piano is not an accompaninest, this is more like a chamber piece "duet".

  • @tedgoh thats what a sonata is :)

  • @tedgoh I saw accom-paninest and I imagined some side dish for a panini

  • actually brahms' cello sonatas are entitled sonatas for "piano and violoncello", they're more chamber music than solo sonatas =] notice that there are parts of the piece where the piano takes the melody, and the cello is acting as accompaniment, or not playing at all.

  • I agree. He's not the most sensitive player. And Jian Wang's sound is huge as well!

  • Most of the time the cello is way too loud in recordings of the Brahms sonatas. And I'm a cellist. The only recordings I've heard that get it right are ones with Emanuel Ax.

  • my sentiments exactly

  • besides brahms didn't even consider the cello a real solo instrument.

  • At least he recognized his mistake: "Why on earth didn't I know that one could write a cello concerto like this? If I had only known, I would have written one long ago!" - Brahms, on hearing Dvorak

  • Unfortunately for cellists and the public alike he never did. Again my sentiments exactly

  • at least he kind of came halfway with the double concerto

  • actually he did write a cello concerto, the double concerto was first for solo cello. this is available as a recording by Julius Berger, easy to find, on Amazon etc.

  • great performance!!

  • bravo!
