Best Friends is one of the best animal shelters nationwide. They take in all animals. Not just dogs. not just cats. All. Regardless of their condition. I urge you to give money to them or another no-kill shelter. Budgets are decreasing while animal abandonment or abuse rises. No home, dogs go or are left behind to fend for themselves in foreclosed houses, in basements, chained to fences, terrible places. Please help those who can hot help themselves. Thanks. @RAVENakaR Agreed. My friend rescued a dog from the humane society and she was so sweet. One day he was trying to teach her shake and she attacked him for touching her paws. He thought she would never bite anyone and he thought that they had bonded and that she loved him to death. It broke his heart having his own dog attack him. He owned her for about a year and a half before she attacked him. She was 3 years old when he rescued her. She was a border collie/ blue heeler mix.
I have rescued five dogs in the past 15 years. I have three of them right now and I would say they are adorable. Once an old Golden Retriever running free in the street, obviously lost, came directly to my open door and just went inside and wouldn't go. We were so surprised that we let her stay. Unfortunately, she only lived another 8 months. She developed a cancerous tumor in one of her paws and we had to put her down...she was a glorius gift, tho.

We volunteered for the first time at Best Friends in early may 2010. End of April 2011 will be our fourth time to volunteer. BUT, in a regular pound they would be euthinized. They would not have any chance to recover or to even get a family. In dog town however, they have a chance to recover and get a family, this is the happy part, the animals will get better, they will get treated good, and they will find a loving home.

It's not the same. If you adopt a dog, you sign a contract that you can never give it up to a shelter or give it away. If you buy it, you can do whatever the hell you want with it.

You don't buy pets from shelters. :3 You adopt them and pay an adoption fee. There is no profit made from it. All the money you pay goes to buying things like food. That;s what's great about adopting, as opposed to going to a breeder. :/
I wish I had the money, because if I did, I'd start a similar sanctuary for pit bulls here in RI. They're such misunderstood dogs, and it doesn't help that the media and ignorance discriminates and spreads misinformation about them.

I love Best Friends! Anybody who is willing to help this breed is amazing in my book! If you like Best Friends check out Villalobos Rescue Center in LA. They focus just on pitbulls...also amazing.
This organisation is great! They saved hundreds of dogs by rescuing them! I hope there are more of these kind of organisation. Well done to the staff working there.

I don't think it's wrong to be more sick over the slaughter of dolphins, dogfighting, trapping, poaching, circus animals, bear milking, animal farms in China, traditional bullfighting etc. No animal should suffer under human hands. But don't you worry about me and that alley, I'm sure my dog will take care of things. Bottom line, humans life and welfare may take precedence over that of an animal, but when a human is the cause of animal suffering, the responsibility falls to the rest of us do something about it.

What I interpret from your messages is that you'd rather donate your time and money to helping animals rather than helping people. That desire usually comes from the fact that people are smart enough to help themselves, while animals are helpless. It's a very understandable position and does not mean that you wouldn't help a person in need if you came across them. Just ignore MoonRader85, he sounds 14.

@MoonRader85 Your point? It's not our fault that most of the starving people decided to do drugs or get drunk everyday until they lost everything. It's different for a dog. They depend on us. And humans usually end up being homeless because of their need to use drugs instead of working hard for a future.

Very beautiful. I love how even the aggressive dogs still find a place of hope here and are not just euthanized. I also love how even this "pet sanctuary" helps wildlife, as well; not just pets.

You don't buy pets from shelters. :3 You adopt them and pay an adoption fee. There is no profit made from it. All the money you pay goes to buying things like food. That;s what's great about adopting, as opposed to going to a breeder. :/

I wish I had the money, because if I did, I'd start a similar sanctuary for pit bulls here in RI. They're such misunderstood dogs, and it doesn't help that the media and ignorance discriminates and spreads misinformation about them.

I love Best Friends! Anybody who is willing to help this breed is amazing in my book! If you like Best Friends check out Villalobos Rescue Center in LA. They focus just on pitbulls...also amazing.
