  • That is a hilarious introduction.

This is not an "old irish song"

This is an American song called "Aragon Mill" and it was written by Si Khan.

  • all you need is a tin whistle

  • i loved the original, had it on a old 45!

but your version is VERY good i extremly like it

  • What a beautiful song!

  • i adore you guys, that diatonic squeeze box is vastly under used, do you do Black Velvet band?

  • THIS IS ONE OF MY FAVOURITE BALLADS I often PLAY THIS ON MY BANJO ye do a brilliant version of it well done

  • Excellent version. Thanks for posting. I've never heard the Fureys singing it, but i've a brilliant version of the DCR singing it live. I'll post it on.

  • Sounds Great! Love the harmony, and a makes for a reassuring change in Eb. The bluegrass band I play in plays a near identical song called "Aragon Mill", but a little more country-folk pace and also in D. Is this the prerequisite to the American version?

  • Aragon Mill is the original song.

Si Kahn wrote Aragon Mill in the late '70s after the local mill closed down devastating the local economy and many people's lives.

If you do an search you will find pictures of the mill chimney which did stand "at the east end of town, at the foot of the hill".

  • Thanks for the info. I knew the song was a steal from Aragon Mill but I have never thought about searching for the pictures.

  • My favorite version is the one by the Fureys, but this is just lovely. Thanks for posting it.

  • Awesome rendition.

  • Beautiful! My favorite version of this song is by Sean Talamh and I was hoping to find it on here but yours is just lovely. Hope to hear more from you and best of luck to you in the future!

  • thx, glad you enjoyed.

  • Good job guys, my young son will not go to bed each night until he's heard and watched you play the Belfast Mill at least 10 times.

  • Good stuff, we are glad he enjoys the tune. It is a great song.

  • Fair play lads. I've also been a Furey's fan for a while. Well done on the song, in all fairness, ye do it great justice. I've rescently started playing the guitar myself and was looking for the chords & lyrics, so thanks again.

  • good job lads

  • Thanks!

  • i luv d fureys n have seen them live many times n ye r just as gud keep it up..

  • Lovely Wee Song Thanx Always Amhranean Irelands Songbird xo

  • Ah boys u don't know what that songs means to me.. I was a weaver now.. Im living in a flat that used to be the ole mill I worked in.. u know at night I swear I can still hear the shuttles going.. Great song

  • It is a beautiful piece and we just finished recording it for our CD. We've been doing that song for a while now and it never gets tiring. Glad to hear that you enjoyed it. Thanks!

  • Hope that CD will be available online soon?

  • I fell in love with this piece after hearing the Furey's doing it - on LP, not live, unfortunately. We play this song each time we have a gig and always give a little intro about the similarity to this song and what has happened to some of our primary industries here in Newfoundland and Labrador. It is a lovely song with a powerful message - mill towns, like fishing towns here, are devastated when they close.

  • Another reminder of how much I love this music, great stuff. Really enjoy it!
