@AviationEnthusiastic I regret the entire "demise" of the MD corporation. Their planes certainly rocked, and it should've been those planes that Boeing continued.  Then they could've scrapped the B737-container and continued on beauties like the MD-90.

I flew very often with Finnair from Stuttgart to Helsinki and domestic to Oulo/Kemi and Rovaniemi.

These fellows fly their planes in EVERY WEATHER very professionell!

@DrummerAdu V1 is the speed after which the brakes of the aircraft would not be able to stop it on the present runway (you'll need to fly, in other words), V2 is the speed at which the aircraft will fly high enough, even with a stopped engine, to clear any obstacles at the end of the runway + any reserve runway (standard obstacle height actually applies).

Any of you who have the fortunate luck to fly the MD11, my hat's off to ya, what a wonderful plane. So much criticism of it, and it's prior DC10, but I just LOVE flying on them(not a pilot) but which I was, and wow, this is the plane I would just LOVE to fly.....so lucky, be safe!

I used to fly Finnair's MD-11 often to Asia when they still had it in passenger service. It truly is a powerful plane, like rocket.ánd so good looking a/c. But have to say their new Airbuses are so much more comfortable, better seats, good IFE... KLM still fly MD-11 to US and their a/c have new cabins, there's your chance ;)

@JohnMaxGriffin I still fly cargo versions of the MD11. They're very heavy aircraft at max weight. Most newer planes are engineered to minimize the "waiting time" between V1 and Vr. Regardless, general rule of thumb: the large & heavier the aircraft, the greater the time distance.

During the time when I was married wish a finnisch woman I very often flew with Finnair and most domestic Finnland Helsinki/Oulo/Kemi/Rovaniemi

even in wintertime with snow/ice on the runway of ROV

AND all the time I felt very very safe on board or in the cockpit!

These fellows can fly via autopilot AND very professionel by hand ..........

as the domestic approaches are quit short very often with a 90 degree turn to the nearby runway!!!

Couple of question: shouldn't both pilots increase the throttle together, instead of just one of them as in this video? and: why do they have to keep their hand on throttle lever until the plane takes off?

@Spetsop Well, i think that its not always necessary to both pilots push the throttles. And pilot keep hand on the throttle so if something goes wrong before V1 speed he can abort takeoff.

No, they are not renting them back, they don't need more capacity. And they didn't own these last MD-11's, those were leased.

In 2009 Finnair got five new A333's to replace the MD-11's, three more coming this year.
