Mr. B and Ms. E dancing together is so charming! As per the whole "left and right" lesson inherent in Mr. W episode, I wonder if any teachers gave a little waltzing lesson.
You got that right! He is built poorly, puppeted poorly, and just looks a bit icky. However, I like the Wizard man who smacks his own head at end-he's cute! :)
I feel awful. I have a tape with all the letter people songs. My sister and I listen to it often in the car, but lately we've been skipping "W" and "S". While singing along to "W", she accidentally said another word instead of wink (one vowel difference) and the whole song has changed. "S" is dirty depending on how you dicipher it.
I've never seen the newer versions. But I found those old pictures of The Letter People they use to show us in Kindergarten and I just remembered wrong.
Efil, I agree. Mr. W sounds like Joe Besser. Besser was a native of St. Louis, the same place where, I believe, this show was produced. And Besser did voice a number of cartoons in the 1960s and 70s (Babu from 'I Dream of Jeannie' for example). It may very well have been him. I should check the imdb just to see.
OK so out of all the letter people the only one that creeped me out was Mr. W. Maybe he WINKED it seemed creepy, couldn't they have named him after washing, water, world, or something less strange.
At the beginning he says "I'm so wonderfully happy, I have to sing a song!". That's his talking voice. Like Mr. Z and a few other Letter People, his speaking and singing sound very different. (Pretty obvious it's the songs from the record put in the show...)
"Please note that in the program, Mr. W sings his song and winks his right eye, and then his left eye. Since Mr. W faces the viewer, it was recommended by some curriculum specialists that when Mr. W says he winks his right eye, the eye that winks be on the right side of the screen for the viewer; that is, in reality, Mr. W's left eye. This change may be discussed, along with concepts of relative right and left, if any questioins are raised by the children."
For some reason I could never figure this guy out when I was a little kid. Now I just think he's a creepy old guy who winks at people. As much I loved the Letter People (and still love them today!) this is one I definitely don't care for... (Interesting note: looks like Mr. B and Miss E have a thing for each other- they act really lovey-dovey during a few parts of this song...)
Unfortunately, if anyone tried that, their fist would probably not be able to get through those crazy eyelashes of his (too much mascara?). I remember the one thing I liked about Mr. W was how he reminded me of this crazy winking thing my dad always did... (Thank goodness he doesn't do it anymore or I'd have to scream at him.)
Because I thought it was entertaining as a little kid, but now I think it would be kind of scary and annoying. (Seriously, his eyes went totally insane when he did it!)
creepy very scary please dont wink anymore it just makes it worse!!!

It's so funny because my cousin when he was younger he called W "duddabee." It was so funny.

Winks usually bother me but this one doesn't. When I was five the Living Books logo really bothered me with his wink.

I noticed that the puppeteer messed-up with the eyes...he's use his right eye when he was supposed to use the left, and vice versa.

His right is our left. :)

Yeah, he is a creepy lil' bugger, isn't he? If I were Miss E and he winked at me, I'd give him a black eye!

Very well done! The letter W also starts watermelon, whiz, witch, wizard, and also it's our president's middle initial. What a windy day!
