@rach1and1tiff no comprendo is closer to "i dont comprehend". its different than no entiendo "i dont understand". misunderstanding is mor like being mistaken or confused where as miscomprending is being totally unable to decipher what someone is talking about which would work in this case and yours. larry could use the excuse that they are using different languages and you were speaking fluently to a man then claimed that all of a sudden you couldnt when you were probably using small talk.
