im looking to get these installed in my Laguna, but i almost always see them getting put into Les Pauls, I just want to know, can these things get a hard rock tone? are they good for rock soloing?? nice vid btw
@GuitarLordChels Yup, these pickups were designed for Jeff Beck and Seymour Duncan uses them too. Metallica used to use them and Dave Mustaine's Livewire pickups are based on these hot rodded pickups.
how do you install the new pickup in that old pickup plastic mouting ring guard , i accidently screwed the two machine screws with springs which hold the pickup in that plastic guard i can't put the screws back in with the springs how do you do that?
@shazlig when you are changing the old pickup from the pickup plastic guard and installing the new one's in it , as the new pickups don't come with those you have to install it in that lespaul pickup guard, how do you do that?
@blew198 I just followed how the original pickup was installed in the pickup ring. The new pickups came with the long screws and spring so I just used those.
@shazlig Yeah, most likely. You still have to be quick with all the soldering though. The iron has to be good and hot for the solder to melt fast. You just put small dabs of solder on the potentiometer lugs and connect the wires and quickly remove the iron from the part to avoid burning it. Sometimes if you're soldering ground wires to the back of pots, it is helpful to scuff up the metal surface. It helps the solder adhere better to have a rough surface.
Very nice tutorial! I need to ask you though, what did you do with the red and white cables? I understand you soldered the rest there where you unsoldered the old one, but what about these two?
@GFYrapcore Yo im about to put mine into an RG 120, did it work well for you? Was it a noticeable improvement over the stock pickups? Please reply =) I already bought the JB
@Metallicaforever95 To tell you the truth, don't buy cheapass tools. I bought a 30W soldering iron for like $4 and it's complete shit. Save up and invest in a Weller soldering station with a temperature regulator. Well worth it :)

I want to swap out the pickups on my Epiphone G400 SG with nothing. I want to turn it into an acoustic guitar so I can play some Underoath and alessana stuff
Hey weerpool. The electric guitar is built differently then an acoustic guitar as acoustic guitars are chambered so that the sound can resonate. You should get an acoustic guitar.
hey man im in a fairly heavy band i wouldnt say metal but definitely heavy maybe hardcoreish. Anyways i have an Epiphone Sg and im thinking about putting a seymour duncan bridge pickup in it. Do you have a recommendation on which one i should get?
hey dude. It really depends on what tone you're looking for. A JB can do the job just fine. A heavier one would be a SH-6 Distortion or Dimebucker but those doesn't have a good clean tone.
Personally, I would check out the Blackouts active humbuckers cos they've got great tones and no noise.
well i know two of the bands i really like us JB's (Underoath, Every time i die) I'm not sure if you know of those bands. But i heavier sound but not straight up metal. ill look up videos of those pickups you suggested
Depends on what tone you are looking for but personally I would say Yes. The bridge pickup is clear, slightly hot (great for hard rock or metal) but the playing with the volume or switching to the neck pickup will cool the tone ( for rock sounds).
Hey bro. I can't say as I've never tried the 59's although I would suspect they would have less output. I got my pickups in the states but I would suspect the pickups would be around RM 400 each.
dude thanks alot for this little video, this clears alot of things up for me. I have the very same set of pickups but i've been puttin it off cause i didn't wanna hurt anything lol. Thanks again =]
Next time don't forget to play a bit so we get to hear the sound too!

So much easier (and safer for your guitar finish) if you took those strings off man. Not worth the trouble for the cost of strings.

or you can get piezo pickups installed under your bridge but they are expensive. I recommend RMC brand if you are interested.

should i get those pickups?
or get a new guitar?

one thing you should've done or showed if you done it is that you prime the wires with some solder beforehand so it will be a tighter connection
trousien 2 years ago
Yup, good call. Priming the wires definitely helps organising the underlying conductor wires
