Hehe! Cats are so funny when they encounter a human under the sheets. I dont think they realise that the hard lumpy parts under the sheets are out bones, so they try and knead out the lumps. :p

yeah mine used to do it all night too when she was a kitten ... now she's almost 6 months old and she sleeps on my face everynight or close enough to my face so i wake up with one of her front leg in my mouth ... well ... still better than scratches

my husband's cat will push on his adam's apple until he wakes up, or sits on his face and prevent him from breathing. My cat usually licks my eye lid and lips till I wake up. That and my cat poured a cup of water on my husband's face once.
