i tried this, i could not remove my heatsink, i was afraid of destroying my computer, i wanted to upgrade to a quad core so i guess i will just by a new motherboard, case, dvd writer and os and install that into a new build, i knew this was not going to be as easy as it looked.
@paulpianist1 -- It could be the CPU fan. Some BIOS have smart fan settings that increase RPMs as temp increases, and that may be why it seems intermittent.
Hi, nice video but I have a little problem and I hope you can help me.
I cannot remove my CPU fan becouse it does not have typical screws and I cannot remove it with a screwdriver, fan has some black untyipical screws like plus sign. Do you have any idea how can I unscrew my fan!?
It is much much harder to remove the heatsink than as shown in this video. those spring clips will make you sweat and cry! death to all AMD heatsinks!
my computer sits facing me with the glass case cover off... the fan runs quietly much of the time, but sometimes I think there is someone mowing the lawn outside ... in some cases it sounds like a dogfight. Not dogs, but biplanes climbing and diving. No I'm not playing combat flight simulator. I don't think its the AMD fan. the case fan is quiet too. What else is there? It might be the heatsink but I can't see where. If i jiggle the case it quiets down sometimes.
there s something wrong with AMD's that causes the heatsink to be stuck on the surface of the cpu. I ve been installing intel systems for over 15 years. Not even once have I ever had a heatsink stuck on an Intel. The first AMD that I uninstalled ended up being stuck on heatsink. CPU came out of the locked socket along with the heatsink bending couple of pins...
@TheEnzoferrari12345 Just run the cpu at 100% for a little while, and then turn the system off and remove the heatsink as fast as possible. The compound was softened by the huge temperature, making it easy to remove it.
@shuan1210 I would say Both intel and AMD has problems with heat for example look at the Pentium 4 series by intel they ´were catastrofical compered to the amd otion in both heat and performance. (do not complain about my enlich plz. )
A really useful tip i found is that before you open up your pc you should turn it on and run it under a really heavy load for about 15 mins, working your cpu really hard. The heat it generates should soften the paste compound and will make it much easier to remove the heatsink, =)
I tried on my AMD X6 1090T once. It was sticked to cpu. When i tried to move in wisting manner and lifted up the CPU came out with it . Again I had to use a screw driver to unstick cpu from heatsink base. The paste was hard and was like adhesive. 1 pin was bend. Your advice seems a fine solution. I should run a chess program on ful load may be.
What happened? And yeah self installing hardware is hard sometimes. I felt like I would pull out my processor but I spent 25 minutes wiggling it around slowly till I knew it was loose enough to pull it off. I know that isnt practicle but I knew it would save me a processeor. Good luck man I hope you can get a new one or something.
I admit Intel always seems to be alittle ahead with speed but it comes at a price normally intel has heating problems more often than AMD and since my AMD processers have always been stable and worked well with overclocks I think Ill stiick with the good brand (unless they go bankrupt :P )
lol I followed the video and pulled off the heatsink properly but forgot to wiggle it and pulled out the cpu too, it was attached to the heatsink tightly!
Lol sorry to hear that dude I thought i might do that to but i spent 20 minutes to make sure i would slowly remove it and not screw up. I hope you can still use it lol.
Yeah you really should have went with one of the 80$ ones like I did even though the thing was HUGE my temperature went from 70C with no load to 20-40C with full load. Big difference :P. Anyways good luck dude overclockign will work well with a good cooler.

Omg,so many videos, and i can't find a tutorial to remove my cpu fan with some kind of clips with an arrow pointing right on each 1....

@djordjebozic its called a phillips head... That is one of the most standard screws out there....

I've accidentally yanked the cpu out of my 754 athlon 3000+ computer while removing the heatsink.. twice.. And it still works fine :D

What I did was set my fan speed very slow ran my cpu heavily and then removed the fan, worked like a charm.

I didnt realize you could remove the heatsink from the cpu after you've sealed them together with thermal compound. I know now :)

Hi I'm trying to remove my old NB fan but I can't pull out its power connector, it's too tight. Can I just force it out with pliers? Thanks.

I hate these goddamn things. easier to just lift the heatsink and its mount right off the board. screws > flimsy plastic clip anyday

yeh if only all cpu fans were that easy to take off

I took my stock cooler out and dropped a sycthe shuriken cooler in there. Only a 4 degrees decrease in temperature LOL, well there goes $40.
