  • This kid needs to learn how to project his voice, and stop screaming. Otherwise he's going to lose his voice. Just awful.

  • I think the guy did a respectful job- you can tell he watched the movie and took time to appreciate the scenes and their details. He seems to have some of the fire Marlon had. good job!

  • DAMMMMMM HES HOT!

  • he needs to be more believable it dosent sound convincing!!!

  • I don't like blanche, the scene where she is shouting is not a ' crazy , dazed ' shoting and screaming. its more of a ' strop '

  • @SpoonRiverProject well, its a school play, if you want life experience, you're not going to get it from some kids. and anyway life experience has nothing to do with the acting of this play, they get a script and the rest depends on if the can act good.

  • @stupidintellect90

It's a very bad choice for a school play. They are good actors.... it's a bad choice. I teach acting and this is just wrong. What school is this anyway? Just curious.

  • @SpoonRiverProject Oh I have no idea...I live in London and there was this theatre production starring Rachiel Weiz and Elliot cowan which I so wanted to watch but I was about a year late, it must have been brilliant Elliot is such a good actor...maybe Bugsy Malone would have been a better choice for them;)

  • @SpoonRiverProject It is called AMATEUR DRAMATICS. Young people attempting all sorts of different roles, ages, class and accents AWAY FROM THE CRITICS is one of the best ways they learn to gain confidence, experience, learn their craft and develop into the stars of tomorrow. AM-DRAM, is not professional theatre and 'perfect casting' is not the point at all. Surely as an 'acting teacher' you should be most aware of this. And I have seen worse performances by actors WITH 'life experience'

  • @SpoonRiverProject i totally agree and i wish i had something positive to say about the acting.

  • Like Brando? How exactly?

  • HHAHHAHAHAHHAHAHAHAHHAHAHAAHAHAHAHHAHAHAHAHAH

    priceless

  • I think it would be so rough making a character [that was pioneered by such a great] your own....but I think it's pretty good :-)

  • and as the baker....random

  • My God, Talk about an imitation of Marlon, boring.....and he screams like a bitch!!!! More beer please

  • very good stanley

  • a very convincing performance!!but yes, indeed,he sounds like marlon brando

  • omg he looks lika that guy frm the movie umm umm Nick and Norah's he look like the blond one

  • @lords1child he is the actor from the movie, what an actor!!

  • He was really good as Stanley! :) great!

(still Brando WAS better looking hahaha)

I didn't think much of the acting of Stella and Blanche, it seemed a bit... I don't know... Studded?

  • *waiting for the female Brando fans to come on here & stomp on this guy for not being as good looking*

  • Brando did NOT have to scream.

  • This troupe should've checked out the recent brilliant interpretation done by the Sydney Theatre Company with Cate Blanchett as Blanche DuBois (oh, and WHAT a Blanche she made!!! Hands down the best performance I have witnessed on stage). Joel's Stanley was superb, albeit not as brilliant as Brando of course. But it felt real not "acted" like this.

  • i think the shouting was too much, but everything else was rather well and blanche's character as well.

  • this is not that great of a job.its not convincing. I feel like he is trying to do an impression of Brando, which you should never do as an actor.

  • Stanley shouldn't shout like that, it's out of character

  • Terrible. Everything is fake. Unnatural. That's why method acting is the only real way to act.

  • why is he getting thumbs down? its true

  • He has a pretty wonderful grasp of Stanley - just not the age... 10 more years he'll be ready for a chance at it again.

  • You shouldn't shout too much, anyway you're better than alot of actors

  • Marlon Brando was so brilliant in the role that this pales in comparison, even though the actor isn't necessarily bad as such.

  • Comment removed

  • I should add that it's not basically a question of comparing Brando with this actor, which would be unfair. The comparison just makes the flaws here more obvious. Even without comparing with Brando's version, this rendition lacks subtleness.

  • You didn't need to shout to be a good actor. Over all it was ok.

  • stanley is look like the real one his acting is also good.

  • His character is soo similar to the one in the movie...

  • i LOVE Jbw

  • was stanley the beefy guy in nick and norahs infinite playlist?

  • Yes and also Hanschen from Spring Awakening. X3 Jonathan B Wright. I love him.

  • yeah hahaha

  • yeah

  • @planetnoodle omg i just asked the same thing he is

  • the girl who plays blanche, sucks. stanley is good yeah, but in the beginnig he screams too much, he should build it more up.And sometimes, i thought he was too close to brando, when he throws stuff off the table, very much like brando in the movie. But u can tell he is fine actor.

  • Not at all like Brando. He screamed too much, and did not seem believable throughout. I didn't believe that he wanted to rape her, and it amde no sense why he was quoting Huey Long. No inner justification. But a nice try

  • The quote from Huey Long is in the original script.

  • Obviously.

  • its in the script to throw the plate and the glass. he didnt do it well though

  • Great footage- JBW is scary in the best way. XD And LOL@ Into the Woods

  • Okay, really good, but come on, stop putting "goo looking" guys to play Stanley.

  • TALENTED

  • OMG JOHN B WRIGHTS SOOOO FREAKING HOT!!!!!!! he should definitely do more scenes shirtless ; )

  • Okay so why did it go randomly to Into the woods?

  • the guy playing stanley is really good

  • Wow, the girl playing Blanche is REALLY bad.

  • LOL i went, there's no songs in A street care named desire.

    I love into the woods.

    He's an excellent actor!!!!

  • I applaud their effort.

But just makes u think that Marlon Brando is the greatest and the hottest actor that ever set foot on this planet.

  • I strongly agree with you

  • lol @ 3:30 randomly going into "No More"

    this is amazing footage!

  • I wanna play Stella so bad. That would fun!

  • Where is this?

  • In the black box at his high school; I was fortunate enough to see the production. Great stuff.

  • I am so in love with him.

  • This guy does an excellent Stanley!

  • the only one of those I didn't see was Lil Abner. I thought he was stellar in Into the Woods.

  • Who did he play??

  • Haha. Nevermind. I didn't wait till the end of the video :)

  • I can see how people say that he is acting too much like Brando......but I enjoy it. I think his acting is great. Perhaps he should have made the character more his own, but I kind of like the way his voice/dialect/whatever you want to call it sounds.

  • awesome screenname. you got it spot on. this just kind of sucks

  • he has really nice arms

  • holy crap JBW!

  • Why does JERSEY get such a tacky rep.? I've lived in NJ (near Manhattan) my whole life and it's the New Yorkers, the folks from Brooklyn and such with the accents.

No one in Jersey says JOISEY.

  • Exactly. I really don't understand why people think we have accents.. :/

  • maybe you can't tell because to you, you don't have an accent. also there are definitely people in jersey who have ridic accents but maybe you just don't have one?

  • he is mocking Brando way to much....he didnt make the character his own...

  • I agree. I hate that everyone makes Stanley from New Jersey because of Brando.

But he is a talented actor. Maybe just watch it on mute?

  • New Jersey!? is that the accent he was doing? lol I noticed it(the accent) but to me it just sounded like he had a wad of gum stuck in his mouth!

but hey im not around too many New Jersey men..

  • hes good!!!

  • ummm...into the woods...?

  • i luv that play... just thought u shuld knoe...

    :s

  • Woah, he's good.

  • he's excellent. i think he's a stage actor though.

  • holy crap...all I can say is wow! A newfound fasination of JBW has just began!

  • is th 3rd show all shook up?

  • Such a different part than Hanschen. He's such a good actor.

  • when is someone going to put this cutie in a movie?

  • actually he has a movie coming out October 3rd. It's called Nick and Norah's Infinite Playlist and it's with Michael Cera. Jonathan plays Lethario

  • You said Streetcar Named Desire, but nothing about Into the Woods and the other show... what a great surprise!

  • marlon all over it

  • I never really felt attracted to JBW...but wow

  • the gurl playing blanche is terrible. the guy playing stanley is extreemely talented

  • he's obviously trying to recreate Brando's dialect which is completely wrong for an actor to do

  • THIS MAN IS SO FANTASTIC. i've struck gold finding this. thank you so much!

  • THANKS for uploading this. So great to finally see it. He's brilliant.

  • He was great in "Spring Awakening," but he seems to be doing a Brando impersonation here, rather than acting the role.

  • ... I've just about died.

  • incredible

  • bonus Into the woods and Lil Abner in there....

  • OMG...JBW is so powerful and amazing!

  • renethel, i totally agree. this is amazing! =D ♥

  • woaa this is so intense. its totally different from hanschen. awesome!

  • JBW IS soooo Stanley!!!!! I saw pics of him in this role a long time ago on his official website and I was like "He's just so right for that role!" He's so legit in his acting and vocal abilities! Kudos to him!
