Bismallah Praise Allah for Blessing us with the clear teachings of the Koran through Bilal Phillips. Any video that I've seen with his name on them I watch and they've all been so helpful in my Islam. Allah Hoo Akbar
Sheikh Bilal Philips' voice sounds better, the introducer's voice don't do justice but skip about 9 mins and its all good when the Sheikh gives the lecture...Inshallah.
And thanks for the uploads, as always. Alhamdulillah
Assalamu Alaykum. I am a recent convert to Islam and Dr.Abu Ameenah Bilal Philips was a prominent figure in my current studies of Islam. JazakAllah Khair. Anyone who wants to know about Islam, this is just one of many that may help but I feel he is in the top 5 of scholars today.
A wonderful speech from Brother Bilal Phillips Masha'Allah!
May Allah(SWT)guide, bless, reward and protect Brother Bilal and you Brother for sharing this and your good works in The Name of Allah(SWT) for this dunyah and with Jannat ul Firdaws for the Akhirah insh'Allah! Aameen.
I think you ask valid questions and I would like to attempt to answer them. 1. Slavery did not start in the Qur'an. Slavery existed long before Qur'an. The children of israel(jacob) were slaves to the egyptians. Slavery existed in roman, greek, persian, all societies. All over the world up until the present day in which we now live. So, slavery was not made lawful by Islam and the Qur'an. Though there were slaves in arabia during the time of the prophet muhammad(peace be upon him).
2. The names of the prophets are the same adam, noah, abraham etc. However, the bible describes these righteous men as drunkards, incestuous fornicators, and disobeident to their Lord(Allah). The Qur'an restores to them there dignity and the truth about their missions which was to call the people to belief in one God(Allah) and worship Him alone. Instead of worshipping idols and men(christians) and sorcery(jews) and other deviant and newly innovated pratices found in christianity and judaism.
3. The Qur'an is complete and has been kept in the same prestine purity as it was revealed to the prophet muhammad(peace be upon him) from God(Allah) for over 1400 yrs. In Islam we do not take the Qur'an and come up with our own personal interpetations of what it means like people do with the bible and torah. The explanations of the verses(tafsir) and the correct way to follow the Qur'an is found in the hadith(authentic narrations of what the prophet said) and his sunnah(what the prophet did).
@icemike73 : Actually, the quran is not in any 'prestine' condition. It has been altered and any copies that might prove that have been destroyed by caliph uthman. Even so, the quran itself as it is today proves that it has been tampered with. Enjoy your delusion.
4.a) First and formost it is important to understand the marriage of the prophet muhammad (peace be upon him) to aisha (may Allah be pleased with her) in the context of the times. In these times now in which we live people have set laws in terms of what ages people can marry at and what ages they cant. Where if one has relations with a woman or young lady who is below a certain age they will consider that to be pedophilia and if she is above that age it is considered to be consentual.
4.b)The point is when u go and look at the numbers across europe and here in the u.s. U'll find that it varies from country to country. State to state. Varing all the way from 12 to 18. So it depends on which country u go 2 from france 2 germany 2 neitherlands 2 spain italy. Iowa 2 georgia etc. U go 2 these different places u find the age for consentual sex varying. By the way in Islam consentual sex outside of marriage is prohibited. The ages vary regarding when one can have sex and marry.
4.c) Marriages like this, where the man was much older than the wife, were very common to the times. and the key word here is marriage. Also, the age for marital intercourse was puberty. if a girl had reached the age of puberty, be it 9, 10, 11, 12 and up, they were married, taking care of households and bearing children, and was not concidered abnormal. lastly, their marriage lasted until his death, she(aishah) was beloved to him, and she became one of the leading scholars of hadith in islam.
@icemike73 :Sir,i am so glad that you have answered the questions sooo well, mashallah.May Allah almighty, bless us all with knowledge so that we can learn our own religion for ourselves and help others to understand.Jazakumullah hu khairan kaseera......
1. Qur'an didn't make slavery lawful, the Qur'an came when slavery was widespread through Arabia and all over world, and it regulated slavery and freed slaves. Descendants whose fathers were freed slaves became the rulers of Islam
2. The Qur'an speaks of the past, present and future.
3. The Hadiths are from the prophet explaining the Qur'an.
4. Aisha was 19 when the prophet married her, and I would laugh if a non-Muslim disagrees with me and claims he know the life of my prophet better than me.
Very interesting lecture. TY for sharing.

@khalifahklothing 1. Why does the Quran make slavery lawful?
2. Why does the Qur'an contain so many identical stories that are found in Jewish midrashes, Christian Apocrypha and Arabian folklore?
3. Why if Qur'an is so complete is there so many hadiths, and tafsir of Qur'an that one needs to use in order to fully understand Qur'an?
4. Why was Mohammed almost 50 and married to and having sex with a 9 year old Aisha?
