  • so i can take the invader (neck) and make it sound like a black out?

  • so u put on the volume pot but did not think of making it a push pull.

that would be fucking sweet to go from blackout to something for lower output style of music

  • stupid video... it looked the best in 0:45

    really nice look

  • fucking retarded people but it was informative for my noob ass and taught me what the hell preamp modelulars were

  • Bro, my Jackson CVR-2s are waaaaaaaaay to hardcore to get ruined by some cheap piece of trash like this.

  • @BlazemanGuitarX NO DUDE! I got the Preamp for my birthday and put it in the Jackson... now they really scream! Well worth it. Secondly CVR-2s are not that great, they are cheap pickups that jackson makes themselves just to save money.

  • @alexgarcia2013 Well my sarcasm obviously flew it's way over your head at light speed.

  • "It looks pretty good like this." It looks like a Les Paul and a Wolfgang had a bastard lovechild that either is losing a battle to gravity, or has sort of melted.

  • Emg 81.89 set or the blackouts ahb-1 set?

  • active picups look so much nicer than classic passive ones...

  • I didn't realize the Guitar wasn't hanging on the wall until it MOVED AT 0:35!

  • @ESPsandEmgs The guitar was hanging on the wall but it's from a different shot. Video guys then split screened it. Not perfect, but still kind of cool for no budget.

  • nice sound

  • do these work with just a two wire pup? he said 4 , i know. just wonderin if there is a way to wire it up with just 2 wires.

  • Could I even use Blackouts on my Dean Vendetta? Someone told me I couldn't.

  • What about a Dean Vendetta Standard Humbuckers? Will this do well with those??

  • we want to hear the blackouts preamp on a gus 600nt with seymour duncan distortion, 59

  • @SeymourDuncanChannel

    Hey guys Saadi here-

i have a left handed schecter C-1 plus with duncan designed Hb 102's that are coil tap able would this preamp module work with my guitar? i love the blackouts' tone but dont wanna complete tear my guitar's guts out and drill a new pot for the battery

  • i would need to make an space for a 9v battery in the guitar ?

  • @XEvilCloud no, it doesnt need batteries, its the normal pickup you have, like those modeling amps! you dont need to add distortion pedals or delay pedals, it comes with it!

  • @maggot6639 are you sure ? :/

  • I probably would have done blackouts on my guitar but their website was too confusing....

  • frank falbo is ultra high

  • to be honest, i want the other way around. i want a pickup that looks like an active pickups (blackouts) but needs no battery

  • Ugliest guitar ive ever seen.

  • I'm just wonderin' if the Blackout modular preamp will work with let say w/ a standard true single coil pickups like SSL-1 from an HSS strat & make them low noise & active without making the single coil sound shrill or sucky?

  • I'm just wonderin' if the Blackout modular preamp will work with let say w/ a standard true single coil pickups like SSL-1 from an HSS strat & make them low noise & active without making the single sound shrill or sucky?

  • I want a video where u have a before and after video on this new preamp

  • I dont want my pickups to look compleatly ugly but i mainly buy pickups for the sound. Dont you?

  • Has anybody tried this preamp kit with the venerable JB pickup?

  • This is perfect for guys who have HSS guitars who dont want to gut out their main axe that they love.

  • can I make both pickups active with tihis?

  • lmao i love the i dream of genie style pickup switching.

  • EMG can't even come close to touching this!

Also, why even spend the money on the Blackouts when you can get the preamp? Is there some kind of catch?

  • @tenhundredkills Of course there is. The Preamp might give you just a little more gain,,but it's still not a 9V battery,,it's still a passive sound. A pushed passive sound,,that's for sure,,but it stays passive.

  • @Sjeedie

    You need a battery.

  • @MrMetallicious & @bedofrazorsqwerty That changes the situation. In that case,,I may take a closer look at it. (;

  • @Sjeedie It does not stay passive.

  • EMG can't even come close to touching this!

  • So now the Blackouts are a CLASSIC TONE! AHAHAHAHAHAHAHA

Neat product though. Wish they would have tried even a little bit to make one that didn't color the piss out of your pickups with cheap, crap components. If they would have AT LEAST made two versions, one to work with the coil packs and another to actually let your good passives shine, I'd be in in a heart beat. For $50, it's fine that they're doing this. They will make money, but not from anyone with real boutique pickups. No bypass=fail

  • Seymour Duncan is THE shit, as easy as that!

  • @Razwithz Seymour Duncan The Best !

  • Its a good idea. But the reason they made it doesn't seem like a reason to buy it.The real selling point imho is if you like your pickups and like blackouts you can get a mix of both.Say you like your jb but want a little more of that active sound, you can basically have a active version of a jb.I think that's the real selling point.

  • actually the gold blackouts at 0:46 looks better

  • @236987451 personal preference. i think the blackouts (white and black) looks nicer

  • I like the plastic cover better than the open coil, the open coil looks ugly as shit. but thats just me , and I wouldn't careless about how it looks , it just has to play nice.

  • can i put my emg81 into this

  • Where can I buy it ?

  • DOES ANYONE KNOW IF THIS CAN BE USED WITH COIL TAPS????

  • I totally prefer black outs dkny i just prefer them and it as nothing to do with the sound, it as more to do with style, i don't think that those single coils connected together don't look cool.

  • this is such like what emg just recently did with the emg alx... a passive pickup with a pre amp active circuit with pull/push and 3-band equalizer with gain boost

  • @nunofrg Really, its nothing like the Afterburner or Alexi preamp which are single in, single out preamps with coil loading/EQ toggles. We have the Firestorm for that. This is a differential preamp that takes the signal from each coil separately and sums it together. Electronically and sonically they are extremely different.

  • the look is not important. the point is you can turn ANY pickup active and it will sound different than the original blackouts! its more versatility

  • BullShit

You cant beat EMG in Actives!

    Got it?

  • @236987451 You're fuckin stupid.

  • @236987451 LIES.....have you even tried the blackouts?

  • @dewaldjohan yep, and EMG kicked their asses

  • @236987451 you know the blackouts are bad if alexi laiho got rid of them the minute he tried them.

  • @236987451 you should know it doesnt really suck or cant be compared. its the player's wants. if the EMGs are for u then its for u. keep ur own opinions to urself....and blackouts are actually good. look at mick and alexi. oh yeah one more thing i have epiphone prophecy Xplorer with EMGs. and my Ibanez with blackouts. (both active, not this blackout though) they sound really similar but the EMG throws in too much of their own tone. i prefer Seymours

  • @jameschoi999 lol

there are million more things that makes different sound

its not the same guitar with other pickups

  • Why are they talking like an retarded infomercial? But wait....THERES MORE!

  • @AncientItalianSecret Because although the info is serious, the way they filmed it is funny. Check out the one with Scott Miller, all he does is nod his head throughout the video

  • @AncientItalianSecret its the most horrible commercial ever x) especially the fake interest from the guy on the right who doensnt even liten when the "sales guy" talks. Its like watching 1950s brainwashing commercials

  • @AncientItalianSecret They know. They're they're trying to be funny! :-)

  • How is this not the worst acting ever?

  • Isn't this like the EMG Afterburner?

  • @PreedyM2k no

  • if i need another pickup sound, i will get another guitar. best solution

  • i dont need damn blackouts to get a good sound, 99 percent of the sound is in your hands and fingers not in your fancy little pickups

  • THIS IS BLASPHEMY!!! active pickups are sposed to be flat and black, thats metal lol

  • Does this mean that you can get the response of an Active pickup without the battery? This could be the coolest thing ever.

  • I actually never found a nickel covered Blackouts in an online retailer.

  • who gives a fuck what the pickup looks like. Waste of technology, just get blackouts.

  • @veeragandersucks it's not a waste of technology, it's just a stupid way to market very good technology. imagine having 2 volume pots, one for active, and one for passive. i think this is a great thing, and could make for some crazy versatile guitars.

  • @jasonfifi yeah but it makes both your pickups active

  • @veeragandersucks not all the time. like i just said, imagine using a 2 way switch to be able to re-route them to a separate volume pot.

  • @jasonfifi You could just get a guitar with 2 volume knobs, but yeah, now i get what youre syain

  • why doesnt make some of their pick ups in reverse? i like the covers the actives have but can you make a jb set with the cover on it ???? so i dont have to be switching batteries and stuff etc

  • Comment removed

  • it looks great and all.. but will it be possible to turn the preamp off? let's say I want to get a nice clean tone from my pickups, and don't want them to sound like the blackouts anymore, just to bring them back to their "passive state", will it be possible to turn the preamp off and on when needed?

  • @omsata Hell yeah dude that would be so beast! I do want the nice tight end of actives but I gotta have my raw sounding cleans! If only they made a switch that bypassed that preamp and just used the passive state. That would be so beast!

  • @omsata the blackouts have an amazing clean tone already!

  • woooow can i own the patent on it?

  • That's a Larrivee RS-4!

  • When is this baby coming out?

  • Wouldn't it have been easier just to take the stupid cover off the blackouts? Just a thought...Just a thought.

  • @Maxpound Lol. I thought the same thing.

  • @DylonIsTehName Because that's not what Blackouts look like with the cover off. They look like the Terminator with his skin melted off. :)

Plus, how does that help someone who wants to put the Blackouts preamp on something like a Full Shred set? (which would be killer BTW) and finally, it doesn't help the guy who can only afford the preamp at first.

  • I have to admit that the premise of this is truly awesome.

  • I don't care what the pickup looks like. The sound is what important.

  • @cilcannonvryce some people do...

  • @jameschoi999 Fair enough. I am not judging them.

  • @cilcannonvryce glad you think that way :)

  • I love my Blackouts, this may actually save me from going bankrupt outfitting ALL my guitars lol

    Good job Frank!

  • What guitar is that cherry "Lespaulish"? Looks nice, I like were the volume pot is, near the bridge pickup.

  • Some people are such sh1t talkers. Frank smokes on guitar. Trust me , I've seen him play in front of me!

This video is very tongue and cheek as one might realize when you see Frank's smirk on his face when he's describing the different looks of the pickups.

  • I love blackouts but his tone is terrible...

  • @HailThyDrumKit LOL I only played for the camera for like 3 seconds. Where do you live? Next time maybe we'll fly you out. :)

  • Will be possible wirings with switchable passive/active mode?

  • does it require a 9 volt??

  • @S0ULESMIND I called this guy, James, at Seymour Duncan & he said that it's gonna cost about $55. Dunno if that's list or street, mind you, but that was the price he quoted me. Anyways, hope that helps! Laters!

  • This will sound AMAZING on a Bill Lawrence XL500!

  • Could you black out the rhythm circuit in a jazzmaster/jaguar?

Also I wonder the results would sound like with P rails

  • @MrNonoz Like a blackout. That's all it does. The only thing I don't like is that you can't go back to passive mode.

  • Passive pickups with an active onboard preamp does not make the pickups active.

  • @enorhted That is not an onboard preamp, that is an active system that is not inside the pickup case. That is why it only works on 4 wire pickups while an onboard preamp works on any pickup.

  • @enorhted it does with that cause it requires a 9 volt like the normal black outs do

  • @enorhted it does with that cause it requires a 9 volt like the normal black outs do

  • So some 1 want to tell me were the hell I can price and buy this

  • Wow...

  • this is cool... but i still like my BLACKOUTS original

  • @TheKarlo93 Totally agree!

  • those pickups he showed at :48 would look good in my 82 destroyer.

  • One question! does this preamp requires a battery? Thanks

  • @DH31701 Yes. 9V.
