When I tore my 1600 down the distributor gear fell out and all I could find was one washer....is this normal to only have one or is two absolutely standard? BTW, I searched the case high and low, inside and out for another but no luck....
@vwMauri69 Here's what my fellow Mexican said on his post: My name's Mauri and I'm a VW Bug fan. I've seen your whole 14-video series and I've been greatly astonished with your abilities and deep knowledge. The videos are really explicit, I wish I had seen them before, so they would've saved me a couple of headaches during my learning. Now that I have your videos I use them as didactic material in my VW club in Mexico, in the Zacatecas state. Thanks for your effort, I really appreciate it.
there's an easier way of putting those washers in ... put some grease on and stick them on the drive gear axle shaft before dipping it in your block !
thanks man, you are really good. maybe I could do the same for my 1995 vw sedan whith a 1600i engine. by the way, such a nice music selection, hahaha.
Jack, are we just waiting for parts to continue on this series? You rattled off a list of parts you were missing, said it would be a week or so. Hopefully "Sweetie" doesn't have you out at the malls shopping...Oh, I hope they arrive soon, I'd like to see you take this to completion. My "crank is set to TDC" and waiting...till next time, ciao.
Awesome series. So much to learn and is such a help when overhaulin'. lol. I was just wondering if you could sometime create a video that comes after build 14? cause i would like figure out how to install the heater boxes and all of the engine tin for the 1600.
I've been building engines for about 25 years now and I still love the way you give the instructions. It reminds me of a guy I worked for at VW of Los Angeles. His name was Hans... If you had the German accent, I would be having a flashback right now. Old school all the way . VERY NICE VIDEOS....
I've watched every one of your Engine Rebuild videos in order tonight. Very nice of you to take the time to post all this. Loved the entertaining aspect of the production as well. You are real deal Holyfield my friend. Hope the engine is running well!
WOW! This was great. I hope to see more vid's soon. I have 2 bugs myself, both are 71s. I wish I had these vid's in 2002 when I fumbled for weeks rebuilding my first. Thank you for the tips and the detailed instructions.
hey these vids are great !i just bought a 72 super beetle and ive hade some electrical problems ...and i was wondering if u know of any good videos like yours that could be of any help???oh and after #14 i cant seem to find any more of the engine rebuild

when i turned the crank, the drive shaft tuned slightly, at this point i relised that the teeth were above eachother so i gave it a hit with a mallet and the shaft went in!
im now working on modifying my single port pipe to acomodate my 1600cc carb..
il lpost a video of my engine when i get it running.
im new to the aircooled scene, and hope to be getting my first dp1600cc very soon. these vids have been most helpful, as well as entertaining. lol thank you and will be looking out for more builds. ill also make sure i come shake hands with you once i get it running and make a drive from ATL to S.Jersey. thank you...GiP12

Two is best but you can get away with one if the drive gear engages the Dist. It was running that way before so it should be good.

At 2:23, when you inserted the shaft in, you say to make it face the fuel pump stud...was the engine at TDC when this was done??
