  • I don't know how this happens in a tech company like google: The audio is just annoying.

  • *eyes glaze over* Too long... Too long...

  • I don't understand this video. It's a 5 minute concept stretched out to 50. The speaker keeps rephrasing obvious, simple things over and over as if he's trying to pad. Did Google mess up and require him to talk longer than he needs to?

Besides that, this also fails to provide a good, coherent analysis of charities in general, and simply advertises their own charity rating site.

Anyhow, people don't give to charity rationally, they give to whatever moves them emotionally.

^Great video about giving to charity.

  • I came to SMBC for boob jokes. I got linked here, after watching it I suppose this is sort of as interesting. Could use a boob here and there, though.

  • Be sure to check out the following New York Times articles concerning GiveWell:

"Founder of a Nonprofit Is Punished by Its Board for Engaging in an Internet Ruse"

    on January 8, 2008

and the followup a week later:

"Nonprofit Punishes a 2nd Founder for Ruse"

    January 15, 2008

  • is there a version of this talk that isn't longer than 10 minutes??

  • @danthemango Idiot.

Go back to 4chan, with your tl;dr bullshit.

This talk has to be this long, to get all the points out.

  • @BatmenInBlack unfortunately he's right, not everyone has an hour of free time to watch something impractical. I for example could use a transcription of this talk.

  • @d4rkypl And that's why bookmarks were invented.

  • @BatmenInBlack yeah, because that'll solve the problem of wasting an hour of my precious time instead of reading exactly the same amount of information in less than 10 minutes?

  • @danthemango Doctors Without Borders and The Red Cross are good for disaster relief. Non-disaster charities like Village Reach are well researched and important.

  • @danthemango They've also got a web site that has recommended charities.
