Yes, under 18 you have to wear a helmet on a regular bike in many states. I assumed we were all adults.

It is not against the law in ANY STATE to ride a bike, including an electric one without a helmet. In fact, in three states, Illinois, Iowa, and New Hampshire you don't have to wear a helmet while riding a motorcycle. Actually know what's legal and what isn't before shooting your mouth off.

I agree, 20 MPH?? A skateboard can go faster than that! A friend of mine got pulled over, years ago, for exceeding a 20MPH speed limit on a bicycle. What the hell's wrong with the law in this country??

In New Jersey any bicycle with either and electric or gas powered motor on it with pedals is a moped no matter how small the motor is so this isn't legal here.

They are legal in California.  The law states that the rider must be 16 years of age, the power supply can not exceed 1000 watts and the top unassisted electric speed can not be over 20 mph. As long as you follow normal bike riding procedures the cops do not even realize it is a electric bike.

I do that alot whenever I have a straight away. I can go as fast or faster than cars on the local streets on my college campus of SDSU. Or I floor it and pedal on the main walkway when no one's around.

I have a Pedego which is a beach cruiser with a battery pack. It's so sick, I can get around a college campus so quickly that I don't have to worry about being late to class. 10 minutes by the time I get on my bike is enough time to make it to class from my on campus apartment.
