Did anyone else completely nerd out when the heard the beginning of this? Nerdfighters!! I have always wondered what the theme song for vlogbrothers were!! I just about cried when I heard this. I miss those days of the theme song and vlogs everyday. I forgot to say, this is a really good song! I like it :)
This song is genius. And If anyone is reading this...
I play/write music and death cab is one of my biggest influences. I'd really appreciate if anyone reading this would take a minute out of their busy lives to simply listen to my original song. I have a dream, and anyone who simply listens to it/comments or follows me on sound cloud is making me one step closer to that dream. So please consider...helping a dream. My sound cloud username is "ryansteffes"
When I was eleven, my twin sister Ella died. I was very attached to her, and I would literally look into a mirror and mistake my reflection for her. I was crying in my room one night, and this song came on my iPod. The beginning with the piano and drums really soothed me... I love this song, and it always helps me during rough times in my life. I think that there is a strong emotional attachment to this song for me, and I will always love it.
Does anybody notice the noises in the background during the very beginning of the song? It sounds like a piano and drum being played in another room. The sounds are particularly noticeable during the breaks between notes. was curious if anybody else had ever noticed this
Plans was the first album I ever bought myself, at age twelve, and I haven't looked back since. Death Cab speaks to every facet of my life and sings my joys and my sorrows. Ben Gibbard is a genius. This is a beautiful song, period.
Whoa - I just watched "The Curious Case of Benjamin Button" and realized this song is scarily fitting to the plot. Also, this song makes my heart weep tears of fear and happiness.
as i grow older I love listening to this song because it says perfectly what i am.... I am not who i used to be.....I am me.......I love this song the calm background and imperfect melody
@XxMinka i had fallen asleep with my music on and this song appeared in the nightmare i was having. but i love how my dream correlated with the music i was hearing. it made it theatrical.
@iiAngelic I had the same experience. I had a nightmare and this song came on at the perfect moment when i was crying. I woke up crying because of how real it was.
I had such a crappy day today. This song came up on my pandora and I just smiled. I thought of Nerdfighters, and now I suppose it's just made my day a lot less crappy.
Even if you don't like the genre or the type of music everyone can relate to this song at one point in their life just listen and stop wasting time reading comments and getting upset over what someone else thinks about this song who cares just enjoy it while you can
Even if you fail you will know that it wasn't all for nothing. You will grow stronger from the heartbreak. Imagine waiting a year(like me) when it is too late. Just get it over with.
Seriously, this fucking song... I'm already misty eyed 30 seconds in... My former room mate in college put this song on every morning for about a month. I woke up to it and i loved it. Fuck i miss that guy... Love you bro.
i've always loved DCfC but... i admit i hate them... because the songs arent hours long.... thats the only reason the dislike button should even exist on this page
This song in just one note knocks down all of the walls I've put up and I'm immediately reminded of how much I miss my dad who died in 07. God I miss him so much, my soul aches for comfort still and so far this really is the only song that gives me that :')
i can't believe it's been 3 months since i've physically been right next to you.. i want more than anything to just sit there with you and cuddle while i sing to you once again. i miss you so much :(
Whoa. I had wondered what the Brotherhood 2.0 song was, but couldn't figure it out, but then I heard this, and it was just suddenly DFTBA. WHOA. VLOGBROTHERS. How fitting.
I used to listen to this with my friends back in 2006 when it first came out. I was the only one who was really into the band but my friends thought they were pretty cool. That was back when we were in high school. Now that we're all in different colleges, I just play this song back and let the nostalgia wash over me. I love falling asleep to this song.
@graffthesystem hey man while your busy jacking off to your dad fucking himself how about you get off the internet and hang your self pussy faggot. It's not death cab's fault your dick is 2 inches fucking pussy ass nigga
I'm pretty sure this song has nothing to do with brothers. . . It's about growing old and losing who you were when you were young. And even though there's still so much left to do, you just can't, because you aren't who you used to be.
@truthof1000lies "Cause now we say good night from our own separate sides, like brothers on a hotel bed." Isn't it funny though? No matter what, your brother will always be your brother. But hotel bed defines a sort of temporal feeling. You're not going to be in that place forever. Things change. I think it's about how even though he changed, he still has that same passion for that person trying to take flight. Unfortunately that person doesn't feel the same way. "you may tire of me..."
this song came up on my pandora, and it's now the number one most played song on my ipod. it's pure brilliance, and the lyrics are beautiful. it effects me in ways i didn't think a song would.
I'm so disappointed in myself right now. I've loved Death Cab for pretty much all of eternity and I religiously follow John and Hank. French the llama, HOW DID I NOT KNOW THIS WAS THE SONG IN THE INTRO?!? *face palm*
@deirdrep2009 its a story. and at the end, ionno about you, but brothers sleep on the same bed when there's not enough. and its just one of those things that are reinforced if you actually have a brother. just listen to the words and it'll come alive. with or without a joint

Fantastic song though, able to bring back so much :D
This song is really translating my relationship with my family right now, choices I think are good for me are causing some fissures in the bonds we had. I was always a bit of a black sheep but I think their narrowness might lead me down the point of no return with them. Losing friends is sad, losing family is heart breaking.
if you like this you should check out my song on my page, good acoustic song, just do it if you want to hear a kid trying to make songs that people will like
Great song to listen to in mid to late fall, sitting looking out a window, or on a drive on a back road, really makes one to reflect on life. I wish I had Ben's songwriting ability.
@hopelesslynerdy Oh my goodness, yes! This song is beautiful, as are the stories in the comments, but every time I listen to it, I keep expecting the the "THUD!" of the 2.0 from the original opening.
@hexcaster Ah, that's an interesting thought. I had always interpreted it as being directed at a lover or life partner who becomes distant or almost jaded. You have a point, though... it could also be a pretty powerful message directed at oneself, reflecting upon unattained dreams and a world-weary outlook on life. It really adds another layer of meaning to the song... thanks.

what i have to say is whe i hear this sog i feel like theres hope of him coming back but hes gone forever and it fucking pissing me off everyday that i am watching a spitting image of him walk past me with the biggest smile on his face. Scott was a great man and a great husband for my mom. every single day i think why did this happen and in reality you can only blame tghe ppl u feel obligated to blame. Scott Alan Innis 1964- febuarary 14 2011. all i can say is i love you and i mmiss you scott.
This song will always remind me of my best friend, a man whom I will forever consider a brother. We were both huge DCfC fans; saw them live twice. He passed away at age 20, and a month later a few friends and I went on a trip to San Francisco. A trip that he was supposed to join us on. This song came on while we were sitting on our hotel beds, thinking of him. I'm not ashamed to say that we all wept together and held eachother through the song.
@cleeve damn dude, the first (and only) comment i see is this one and i felt really bad. I'm sorry for your loss, i can only imagine (even though i know no pain of that) how you felt at the time losing someone as close as somebody you yourself would consider a brother. But stay up, keep it chill, and continue on, like brothers on a hotel bed.
Anyone who listens to this song and dislikes the music itself I can understand (Although I love it). If you listen to the words however, you can't deny there is meaning to them.
@77sidekick77 Not really. It's about couples changing over times, and sometimes they get stuck because of an unresolved problem. "Cause now we say goodnight from our own seperate sides like brothers on a hotel bed." Just like brothers on a hotel bed, they are forced to sleep together, but there is obviously tension between the two.
i want to learn this on piano!
this song makes me cry <3 so beautiful..

You have a point, though... it could also be a pretty powerful message directed at oneself, reflecting upon unattained dreams and a world-weary outlook on life. It really adds another layer of meaning to the song... thanks.

I miss you and will never forget you Josh.

If you listen to the words however, you can't deny there is meaning to them.

this song is about old age, right? and losing the love because of sagging features.
77sidekick77 6 months ago
@77sidekick77 Not really. It's about couples changing over times, and sometimes they get stuck because of an unresolved problem. "Cause now we say goodnight from our own seperate sides like brothers on a hotel bed." Just like brothers on a hotel bed, they are forced to sleep together, but there is obviously tension between the two.

@TheLighterDark it's close to the real meaning of the song, right?
