@aizhongguo23 it still.... looks pretty fake... I'm suprised that an actor did that haha gotta love crowe and i think he described it as the hardest thing he has ever done for a film.
Peter Weir almost never employs film composers for original music but instead makes use of very well-chosen classical pieces for his films. This scene is one of the very best examples. (Not to slam film composers - I love them - but why commission original music when you already know what you want and it already exists? Too many directors make film composers' lives miserable this way, bravo to Weir for knowing what he wants!)
@discozohan3469 I was certain that they were going to, especially since the final scene somwhat led into a potential sequel and there is an entire series written about Captain Jack Aubrey!!!
@discozohan3469 It's not brainless enough for the millions who spent 100s of millions to see trans 3 & created a demand for more godawful Michael Bay flicks...
@discozohan3469 As someone else on Youtube said best, there is no sequel to this movie because it does not need a sequel. It was well written, well acted, historically accurate, with an excellent story and wonderful characters. Therefore, it does not lend itself to the act of studios shitting out crappy sequels. There is no sequel to Gladiator, right?
@painfulgrapeshot y would there be a sequel to gladiator the main charactor died, im just saying it would be interesting to have a sequel for this movie because the real captain on the other ship got away
Original chords go (in groups of 3 quarter notes) ||: GGG | GCC | DDD | GGG :||
I believe (judging by my ear) theyre playing it in the written key. Also, this is Movement 5 of Musica Notturna Delle Strade Di Madrid, or, "Passe Calle". They even hold the instruments correctly because Boccherini actually wrote "Imitando la Chitarro" in the music. ("Mimick a guitar")
Easily one of the most memorable moments of my life: This was a favorite movie of mine, and this song came on the radio, and surprisingly, I immediately recognized it. Was on a gorgeous day in May driving local roads from Clearwater to ultimately St. Pete as the sun was sinking in the west off to my right over the Gulf of Mexico. My soul was soaring :-)
If any of you readers, have the chance ever in your life, to come here to Madrid, which I know is not an easy thing, I would recommend you humbly, and only, two things:
-Listen to the whole song. Use your keyboard. It's worth it.
-Play it on the streets while you are walking on a warm summer night. It's even scary how this man three hundred years ago could understand the essence of a city inside these notes, and make it everlasting -at least to date, 2011-.
Very emotive, love the film with all its music, specially this one. It is a pity that in my country (spain) we don't have such film to feel proud of our many national heroes both famous and anonymous
Man, I have family in Spain and in spite of have never been there, i feel that this song is just the feeling that a person walking in the streets of Madrid feels. However, this song reminds me of the attack of 11/03 in Madrid. I remind of the desesperation of the people, because I have a person of the family who died in this attack. But i try to associate this magnific song to magnifical things. Thanks Boccherini, when you made this song, you were with a Spanish spirit into your body!
Musica e immagini deliziose per un'atmosfera romantica sulla carneficina a danno di poveri marinai, e per un aura mitica che copre a mala pena gli orrori della guerra navale, facendola diventare quasi accettabile
Did anyone notice at 0:59 when Jack stops playing for a moment you can still hear his part from the violin and when he plays again it stops. And its not the audio lag because the lag is minuscyule.
And best sound effects too wasnt it? I like the way they picked a couple of lesser known classical pieces. Great touch to have them playing it. When you watch the film it works very well. Although you could argue that not many Ship captains would be that good on the violin! :)
This song is called "Night music in the streets of Madrid". And everytime I listen to it, I bring some flowers to the lonely statue of Boccherini in Madrid, because this is an anthem, an anthem of human kind, and that's not easy, shit!
Nos vemos mañana, Luigi! No sé cómo lo hiciste, pero hace doscientos años captaste algo en el aire que aún se respira en las fiestas de la Paloma, cuando ir en camiseta es un privilegio al anochecer.
The history is true but.... it was not a french ship but an american... ,
The realisator took a french, because the film has been make in 2003, france didnt want to go in iraq, so They were a little anti-french movement. Thats why its not an american ship, but a french..

@smith3451 yes one book is "master and commander" the other is "far side of the world" hence the long movie title. While I enjoy the movie, combining the books made a problem with the plot, at least with me. The Admiralty, Aubery (a smart captain), and the author of the books, Patrick O'Brian, would not dream of sending a lone ship out to fight an enemy ship that is twice its size. Thats just suicide.

@matrags but if you were born in that era, you might not be as appreciative of what it was, you would look at it like us looking at cars driving down the road, life is ambiguous, and imagination and love of art is why you have a poetic soul, and you should feel sorry for those people who don't appreciate what you have my friend.
@GorgonTheMagicMan shrewd observation. yet i do feel there's something timeless about the Napoleonic Wars era - its feats of daring-do, of self-less camaraderie, of undaunted patriotism - that speaks to generations of readers/viewers. Like all war stories, it invokes the sense of heroism in all of us, the part that wants to live life to the fullest, to love, fight and die without remorse. That's why history is so captivating - it shows us the romance of human potential.
It doesn't make you live your life to the fullest to kill other people. The only thing that does is making you face death. Quite the contrary of what you want.
The only reason why you are not having the fondness of life that you wish for is because you behave uncreative, thinking of the past.
Bewitch others with your very own ideas, aim to let others see some of the excitement you crave.
THAT is "self-less camaraderie". Still not shooting others =)
@matrags I think you mean, you wish you had a time machine to go back and live in at era. Otherwise if you were born then, obviously youd have no idea of how advanced the future was.
@spartanses Maybe he refers and dreams of a more simplistic lifestyle and time. Whether it was fighting, loving, working, traveling or relaxing it was a more romantic and easier pace than today. Of course you'd have to take your chances with sickness and poverty, but there's always been enough to keep body and soul together.

Amazing film, amazing cinematography. This is gold so far as i'm concerned, and to think Russell Crow had to learn to play then violin for this!

Does anyone have a suggestion as to who might have played a better Captain Aubrey than Russell Crowe?
I loved the film, and Crowe was good enough, but I can't help but feel the doctor stole the film.

Do someone now where I can find the notes for violin with the pizzicato part included in the internet?
