  • Truly an awesome movie.

  • Please, PLEASE make more Aubrey-Maturin movies!!!

  • Dose anyone know if there is perhaps a copy of the sheet music online?

  • What a great performance..great actors both!

  • what a movie...what a music...what an end...and no sequel...

  • ..Let's turn this ship around....Ron Paul 2012.

  • Ooow wel Steven, the bird is flightless? Steven: Yes? Captain: It''s not going any where hahaha #epic

  • Did anyone else notice that Crowe stopped plucking at 1:01...in yet you can still hear the violin being plucked?

  • @LANDOW3000 The music was pre-recorded, and whether crowe was playing in the recording is another matter...

  • @LANDOW3000 Otherwise, it's pretty good dubbing.

  • I love those guys <3

  • @aizhongguo23 it still.... looks pretty fake... I'm suprised that an actor did that haha gotta love crowe and i think he described it as the hardest thing he has ever done for a film.

  • Me sorprendio esta fenomenal secuencia de clasico en master and comander!!!y me acerco al menos un poquito a boccherini y mozart!!

  • Peter Weir almost never employs film composers for original music but instead makes use of very well-chosen classical pieces for his films. This scene is one of the very best examples. (Not to slam film composers - I love them - but why commission original music when you already know what you want and it already exists? Too many directors make film composers' lives miserable this way, bravo to Weir for knowing what he wants!)

  • love the song but........ Crowe needs to work on his fake violin playing.... a LOT

  • they make a transformers 3 and not a sequel to dis movie

  • @discozohan3469 I was certain that they were going to, especially since the final scene somwhat led into a potential sequel and there is an entire series written about Captain Jack Aubrey!!!

  • @cowdoc3 ya, cause the real captian got away on the other ship woulda been intense!

  • @discozohan3469 It's not brainless enough for the millions who spent 100s of millions to see trans 3 & created a demand for more godawful Michael Bay flicks...

  • @discozohan3469 As someone else on Youtube said best, there is no sequel to this movie because it does not need a sequel. It was well written, well acted, historically accurate, with an excellent story and wonderful characters. Therefore, it does not lend itself to the act of studios shitting out crappy sequels. There is no sequel to Gladiator, right?

  • @painfulgrapeshot y would there be a sequel to gladiator the main charactor died, im just saying it would be interesting to have a sequel for this movie because the real captain on the other ship got away

  • @discozohan3469 I know, but my point is the movie is very solid, so while a sequel would be AWESOME, there probably never will be one.

  • Just an incredible piece of music...

  • imslp.info/files/imglnks/usimg/e/e0/IMSLP30300-PMLP68291-Quinteto_Op_30_Boccherini_Musica_notturna_delle_strade_di_Madrid_-_Partitura_Score.pdf

  • The ending arpeggios are different than the written sheet music, for interested parties.

  • russel crowe it's perfect to perform jack aubrey!

  • Original chords go (in groups of 3 quarter notes) ||: GGG | GCC | DDD | GGG :||

I believe (judging by my ear) theyre playing it in the written key. Also, this is Movement 5 of Musica Notturna Delle Strade Di Madrid, or, "Passe Calle". They even hold the instruments correctly because Boccherini actually wrote "Imitando la Chitarro" in the music. ("Mimick a guitar")

  • meant to say heard A D A F# in other versions

  • @rileydd08 here's strumming G D B G, C E C E, G D A F# but ive heard A D A F#, and those are the strumming chords on violin.

  • @WingsofFlamingFire

    I find it sounding the best at G D B G, G D B E, G D B F, repeat.

  • what is the time signature, apart form the 3/4 parts ?

  • @willywang46 this entire movement is in 3/4.

  • i cant stop watching

  • what chords is he strumming?

  • @XenuManLove ..correction: easily one of the best movies of the past 2011 years....

  • Surprise che musica :)

  • Easily one of the best movies of the past 25 years...

  • Easily

  • it,s braw

  • this is music why is classical so hated on

  • i like it so match... its beautifoul!!!!!!

  • I need the notes to this

  • amazing..

  • Easily one of the most memorable moments of my life: This was a favorite movie of mine, and this song came on the radio, and surprisingly, I immediately recognized it. Was on a gorgeous day in May driving local roads from Clearwater to ultimately St. Pete as the sun was sinking in the west off to my right over the Gulf of Mexico. My soul was soaring :-)

  • 0:58 pizz without hands. because he's jack aubrey and he can do things like that.

  • If any of you readers, have the chance ever in your life, to come here to Madrid, which I know is not an easy thing, I would recommend you humbly, and only, two things:

-Listen to the whole song. Use your keyboard. It's worth it.

-Play it on the streets while you are walking on a warm summer night. It's even scary how this man three hundred years ago could understand the essence of a city inside these notes, and make it everlasting -at least to date, 2011-.

    Sorry for the speech. Alberto

  • How long would it take to catch him?

  • Very emotive, love the film with all its music, specially this one. It is a pity that in my country (spain) we don't have such film to feel proud of our many national heroes both famous and anonymous

  • My favorite ending ever thank you for posting!

  • Ive been looking for this.

  • "I like this/ favorites/ markers"??????????

Home page for chrome, firefox and IE. now.

  • where could i find the score or sheet to this piece? I NEED IT!

  • @misantropfagia

Most music stores worth their salt will have a comprehensive classical section. Failing that, try a sheet music site.

  • Thats the type of music that makes a positvie mood.

  • My love for the sea and my love for music, intertwined and combined in the best of ways.

  • i want to be the captain of a ship of the line, a 86 guns i think it was :D (british) and in that timeline, damn that would be special!

  • This is possibly one of my favorite scenes in any movie ever. Just thought you should know.

  • Man, I have family in Spain and in spite of have never been there, i feel that this song is just the feeling that a person walking in the streets of Madrid feels. However, this song reminds me of the attack of 11/03 in Madrid. I remind of the desesperation of the people, because I have a person of the family who died in this attack. But i try to associate this magnific song to magnifical things. Thanks Boccherini, when you made this song, you were with a Spanish spirit into your body!

  • does any one know how to play the violin part on guitar/ukelele? would love to learn. same goes for the cello to the bass/guitar?

  • @davidano2 I have a friend that plays this with the guitar and the harmonica at the same time

  • @Gulipad tell your friend to post his video ;)

  • @zepecat I did but he says he doesn´t want to

  • Musica e immagini deliziose per un'atmosfera romantica sulla carneficina a danno di poveri marinai, e per un aura mitica che copre a mala pena gli orrori della guerra navale, facendola diventare quasi accettabile

  • Did anyone notice at 0:59 when Jack stops playing for a moment you can still hear his part from the violin and when he plays again it stops. And its not the audio lag because the lag is minuscyule.

    Love the piece though.

  • @Snowboarder54688 haha yah. Dubbed in soundtrack ftl aye. But eh awesome nonetheless.

  • Does anyone know if there is an arrangement of this in tablature for 2 guitars?

  • Bud White looks as though he's really playing that violin.

  • Does anyone know where you can buy a copy of the sheet music for this online??

  • @internetandre :

Remove just the [ ] brackets where I'm providing the search term (not the quotes).

    Violin I & II, Viola, & Cello:

Search exactly for this text in google. It's the first hit, IMSLP:

    [ "6 String Quintets, G.319-324 (Op.30) (Boccherini, Luigi)" ]

This is Public Domain. If you get charged for this, report it.

A simplified version for flute that can be arranged for Piano is:

Search Google for the next exact text. first hit:

    [ "id=205" + flutetunes ]

    Cheers!

  • @maurotyler thankyou very much, I'll have a try at that on my violin with my teacher once I've finished off my music exam :).

  • @internetandre

    Glad it helped!! :)

Best of luck with that exam... and keep playing!! Even if it's just 15 minutes every once in a while, keep it going!!

  • whoa after watching this i think ill try playing my guitar as a cello or violin...

  • love their clothes!!!!

  • And best sound effects too wasnt it? I like the way they picked a couple of lesser known classical pieces. Great touch to have them playing it. When you watch the film it works very well. Although you could argue that not many Ship captains would be that good on the violin! :)

  • one of the great cinematic moments.... highly underrated film.

  • @rover828 coincidentally this movie won an oscar for best cinematography

  • I want Master and Commander 2 NOW! Even if I have to pay for the production out of my own pocket!

  • This song is called "Night music in the streets of Madrid". And everytime I listen to it, I bring some flowers to the lonely statue of Boccherini in Madrid, because this is an anthem, an anthem of human kind, and that's not easy, shit!

  • let IZ sing between them

  • One of the best movie endings I've ever seen! I love this piece of music, love the movie, and love the way they ended it.

  • I love these epic ship battles, man i wish i was born in this era!

  • @Fighting4noobs yeah I like ship battles too! I think they're great! realy like history

  • The history is true but.... it was not a french ship but an american... ,

The realisator took a french, because the film has been make in 2003, france didnt want to go in iraq, so They were a little anti-french movement. Thats why its not an american ship, but a french..

    Long live France, ACHERON !!!

  • Julia was fun fluff, but this was the last great movie that I have seen. Everything Hollywood churns out today is tailored for eighth-grade midgets.

  • I'm being a bitch, but WOW... The point in the song that Crowe stops plucking, and starts with his bow on the violin is WILDLY off from the soundtrack.

I love this song and this movie, but that always bothers me. Very distracting and poorly done.

  • @Huntington1234567 Let's all cry a river.

  • @BohemianFish ... All fish need rivers, do they not? Even Bohemian ones...

  • @dws9312

That's what I'm doing. Just needed to install a script called "Better Loopy" for YouTube, after installing Greasemonkey. It's much less of a big deal than I'd expected.

  • Fascinating to see how there's a number of others who seem to have gotten as totally swept away by the closing scene & music of this magnificent movie as I was.

Must be for a reason that Lord Nelson was a childhood hero of mine.

Could listen to this all day.

  • This has to be the most beautiful piece of music ever written

  • :)))) Simply sublime and a great joy to listen to!!! *thumbs way up* :)))

  • Recent message from Russell Crowe: "If you want a Master and Commander sequel I suggest you e-mail Tom Rothman at Fox and let him know your thoughts." This is the same Rothman that supposedly had a hand in ruining Wolverine and is now holding back on Master and Commander. Some may remember that Crowe did say a script had been written based off of another novel, but it was still in the very early stages...

  • @feuille2niggle doesn't this film combine a few books anyways? so a sequel could do the same

  • @smith3451 yes one book is "master and commander" the other is "far side of the world" hence the long movie title. While I enjoy the movie, combining the books made a problem with the plot, at least with me. The Admiralty, Aubery (a smart captain), and the author of the books, Patrick O'Brian, would not dream of sending a lone ship out to fight an enemy ship that is twice its size. Thats just suicide.

  • Are your Dreams flightless ?

    No ?

    Fine , they're not going anywhere :)

    Happy new year everyone !

  • @KasjmirDeKruidenier

wait a sec.... If you are saying the dreams aren't flightless they would be going somewhere

  • I love how, in the far horizon, you can see the white bloom of Acheron's sails. :-)

  • Is it weird that I'm a girl, and I love reading and watching anything and everything about the British Royal Navy in the days of the tall ships? "Master and Commander", "Horatio Hornblower", "Mutiny on the 'Bounty'"... I love it all.

WE'LL RANT AND WE'LL ROAR, LIKE TRUE BRITISH SAILORS!! ...Sorry.

  • @FlippinBooks Theres a series of books in which this movie is based off of one. There are 20 books in total with a 21st that was never finished due to the authors death. Look up Patrick O'Brian's "Audrey-Maturin" series of books. The movie is based off one or two of the books and you see how well that turned out. I have yet to read any of the books but I am dieing to start reading. Hope you enjoy.

  • @lshssprings I have read the Aubrey-Maturin series; the book "The Far Side of the World" is quite a bit different than the film. I still love the movie, though. But thanks for your reply!

I'm currently halfway through the "Hornblower" books. THEY'RE SO GOOD. I strongly recommend them, starting with "Mr. Midshipman Hornblower". The mini-series with Ioan Gruffudd is excellent, too.

  • what a magnificent shot of the boat! what an amazing ending for a great movie!

If u love the sea, and like to sail, ull realize this scene is just pure magic!! Freedom is really where the sea begins! Music and sea and ill be a happy guy!

  • want to see more magic...check out the european ending of the Big Blue! v=LGyQqVAzF6k

  • I was born in the wrong era.

  • @matrags 28 Thumbs up including me

  • @matrags I think we all were. I sure as heck know I was!

  • @austenbosten Seriously, who could the 21. Century be useful for? =P

  • @matrags but if you were born in that era, you might not be as appreciative of what it was, you would look at it like us looking at cars driving down the road, life is ambiguous, and imagination and love of art is why you have a poetic soul, and you should feel sorry for those people who don't appreciate what you have my friend.

  • @GorgonTheMagicMan

    dont take it that seriuosly:D

    just a dream

  • @johnsonthommy92 what are you 14?

  • @GorgonTheMagicMan shrewd observation. yet i do feel there's something timeless about the Napoleonic Wars era - its feats of daring-do, of self-less camaraderie, of undaunted patriotism - that speaks to generations of readers/viewers. Like all war stories, it invokes the sense of heroism in all of us, the part that wants to live life to the fullest, to love, fight and die without remorse. That's why history is so captivating - it shows us the romance of human potential.

  • @JinrohDFLL well put, well put.

  • @JinrohDFLL The deuce!

It doesn't make you live your life to the fullest to kill other people. The only thing that does is making you face death. Quite the contrary of what you want.

The only reason why you are not having the fondness of life that you wish for is because you behave uncreative, thinking of the past.

Bewitch others with your very own ideas, aim to let others see some of the excitement you crave.

THAT is "self-less camaraderie". Still not shooting others =)

  • @GorgonTheMagicMan ya kno people dont talk like that anymore my freind but well said my old chumb lol

    /

  • @GorgonTheMagicMan Well said

  • @matrags amen. I cant say it any better.

  • @matrags You too!!! Sadly like me we are destine to repete our sorry mistakes

  • @matrags I totally agree!!!

  • @matrags

    So True....:(

  • @matrags i agree. i would love to be a part of the either the navy or army of king george. possibly the navy and sail the 7 seas.

  • @matrags yep

  • @matrags when i see the amputation of the arm, i think i prefer living in our era ;)

  • @matrags well you'd be dead by now

  • @matrags I think you mean, you wish you had a time machine to go back and live in at era. Otherwise if you were born then, obviously youd have no idea of how advanced the future was.

  • @spartanses Maybe he refers and dreams of a more simplistic lifestyle and time. Whether it was fighting, loving, working, traveling or relaxing it was a more romantic and easier pace than today. Of course you'd have to take your chances with sickness and poverty, but there's always been enough to keep body and soul together.

  • @barnabyfraser plus you had a life expectancy of 32

  • @matrags Damn is true!

  • @matrags

    So was I

    This is Good stuff!!

    Sorry Lady Gaga

  • @matrags

The closer you could get there would be becoming an actor ;)

  • @matrags Why is this not on highest comments and one of your commenters are? :S

  • I love this part of the movie soooo much I cannot even tell you....

  • @Tropicalrox12321 i love it too :)

  • @TheSim666 lol... :)

  • Amazing film, amazing cinematography. This is gold so far as i'm concerned, and to think Russell Crow had to learn to play then violin for this!

  • music is still great though :D

  • 1:01 he actually isnt playing because you can still hear his instrument even though he picks up the violin :O

  • @RoBDaMooN ohhhh yeah :-p

  • Love this part of the movie. Paul Bentley is my all time favorite actor!

  • Comment removed

  • BRAVO! Viva Madrid!

  • the original is even better. the parts are much harder, less melodious tho

  • stunning? dont know anything about classical music. but want to know more because of this tune? love it

  • Reproduce música como froto mis bolas en ella en las calles de Madrid

  • @dav1492 Is that Spanish? I am native and I don't understand a word of what you are saying.

  • Until I saw this part in the movie I had no idea you could pluck a violin or cello. Sounds rather good.

  • @Martintheauthor it's known as pizzicato =)

  • @humbertsin1994 Thanks.

  • sum tune for a classical song

  • Oh, this is so beautiful!:)

  • best movie and song ever made!!! I realy like it!!!

  • Not so sure about his bowing-arm at 1.05 but, well... otherwise tip-top all round.

    Andy

  • Does anyone have a suggestion as to who might have played a better Captain Aubrey than Russell Crowe?

I loved the film, and Crowe was good enough, but I can't help but feel the doctor stole the film.

  • Do someone now where I can find the notes for violin with the pizzicato part included in the internet?

  • Perhaps the greatest movie about british naval warfare

  • First time I saw it was I was about.. 14 or 15. seen it tens of times ever since. It's one awsome movie :)

    Best regards,

    Anton

  • they should write a book of the movie.

  • @MateusVIII The Movie is from a book

  • @pvtgunny Realy !? man i have to find this book!

  • @MateusVIII Few months late, but yea, 21 books in the series IIRC

  • Captain Jack is always a master tactician -- even with his friends.

  • very gd film :)

  • This video is wonderful! :-)
