  • It's like taking a step straight into the ancient world of the Vikings. God, this song always puts a tear into my eye. Touches something ancient Nordic in my soul. I want it played at my funeral one day!

  • Beautiful music.

  • "This old shit" haha. I started to think this was some sort of protest with those cow heads in the plate at the start, but they actually eat that?

  • I too am touched by this old shit

  • Angels music to wake up us and help us and little demonstration music after 2012 :P :) ...peace & salute... from a heart Europe ..Slovakia :D

  • The mind enchanted by the strait, the plateau and the mountain pass; hopefulness is chosen there westwards Breiðafjörðinn. Everything is carried away, mud from grooves and mountains, because the spring bloom with flowers spread all over the tracks. Day conquers the dewdrops scattered all over the field vegetation; the mountain flowers grow around the blessed mountain river. When there's no mercy upon this place the crowd will be divided, because the gate is open to the wide sea.
  • Is that tradition to take off their shoes when they eat ?

  • This song is definitely the best song on Heima. Steindor's voice is absolutely amazing. And it is very passionate. You can just tell that it has a lot of meaning to it. And I would really love to find this song. I want it so bad

  • the mood in this song is really undescribable. it calms me down yet makes me scared somehow.

  • The fact that this has less than 5,000 views is a crime. This is amazing.

  • Nea the food looks good, beautiful song too!

  • Jesus Christ this is incredible.

  • does anybody know in which album this tune is? I've been trying to find it but I just can't...I'd really appreciate it if you could help me...

    Cheers....

  • This song / tune isn't in any of the 'regular' Sigur Ros albums (it might be featured on one of the deluxe-versions, but I'm not sure about that). I think it (the music, NOT the poem itself) was composed especially for this collaboration.

It's a beautiful song though, totally agree!

  • It's on the soundtrack "Screaming Masterpiece". It's actually one of many beautiful songs on the soundtrack.

  • This live version of the song is only on the DVD "Heima". There is a studio version though, which can be found on the EP "Rímur", which I think, is not available as CD anymore. Maybe iTunes has it though..

  • Excellent !!!!!

  • These are the lyrics:

    Hugann seiða svalli frá

    sundin, heiði og skörðin;

    vona-leið er valin þá

    vestur Breiðafjörðinn.

    Alt er borið burtu gróm

    bæði af Skor og fjöllum,

því að vorið blóm við blóm

    breiddi í sporum öllum.

  • Dægur-halli daggperlum

    dreifir vallargróðann;

    bjargastalla beltast um

    blessuð fjallamóðan.

    Þrjóti grið á þessum stað,

    þá er lið að skeiðum,

því að hlið er opið að

    úthafsmiðum breiðum.

  • ..one guy also said 'this song is about a young girl who was raped by her uncle. While she is dying she is looking at the the sky, at the nice clouds and at the beautiful eagle that is cirkeling above her. Meanwhile she is wondering how this terrible thing could happen to her'.

...is this misunderstood of poem, or it holds some truth.....

    p.s. kerzhakov89, well done(hd), greetings from Serbia....

  • ....the most beautiful song on Heima...I love Sigur Ros and Iceland...and no words can describe the voice of this guy, Steindor Andersen....

..can somebody translate these words to english, some people saying this is 'very old poem and a lot of words are not used in Icelandic language anymore. As the language is now the song is about mountains, valleys, fog, nature, spring, flowers, covered tracks (footprints maybe or horse tracks)'

  • I tried to search the internet for the lyrics, couldn't find anything so I think the only hope is an intervention of an Icelander. :)

  • @kerzhakov89 My grandmother is from Iceland and all that I can tell you is the language of the lyrics is closer to Old Norse than modern Icelandic, though both are similar. It is about a journey across Iceland in the spring, so koncar1979 is on track....

  • @koncar1979 The mind enchanted by the strait, heath and pass; the passage of hope is chosen westward Breiðafjörðinn. Everything is carried away, grime from the grooves and mountains, because the spring blooms with flowers spread in all traces. The day tilt "daypearls" scattered all over the field vegetation; the mountain flower grow around the blessed mountain river. Run out of mercy at this place, then the crowd will be divided, because the gate is open to the wide ocean water.
  • Very beautiful... but the food... YHUGH!

  • This sends chills right down my spine. Beautiful beyond comprehension... Thank you so much for sharing this.

  • Don't even mention it, it is a task to share beauty amongst people :D

  • @kerzhakov89

mate do you know where to find a studio version of this whole song??? does it exist? so damn beautiful

  • @mogur00 there's a studio version on the 'rímur' EP collaboration. the cd itself is very rare, but you can download it - as well as a ton of other treasures - for free through the official sigur ros ftp site. it's filed under misc. enjoy :)
