this motherfucker reads out your memory card and tells you what other games you play and what a sissy you are because of saving so often. that was one of the most impressive things i ever had in a video game. as the screen turned black i screamed at my mate who held the remote to fucking switch the tv on again. he already knew mantis' tricks and laughed at me so hard. i was so confused i couldnt even laugh at myself...

This has to be the best designed boss on a videogame. Like, it's a play on peoples psychological fear of being revealed, or not being in control - Especially on a videogame, where you are in control of your character, the way it was written, it just blew my mind the first time I played it.

Saying this game's legacy won't last is like saying the Super Mario legacy won't. It's too of a powerful and epic franchise for it to be forgotten. As much as I really like Harry Gregson Williams, I think MGS1 has the best music in the series. It is so desolate and minimal, adding a lot to the feeling of loneliness and solitude as one man infiltrating a forgotten disposal warehouse on the edge of the world. One of the many reasons I hate the Twin Snakes remake is because it fucked with the music.

This isn't the best recording of it I've heard (the one in MGS4 is excellent even if it's not completely true to the original), but this is still one of the eeriest boss theme songs. Psycho Mantis scared the crap out of me when I played this when I was young, and I think the music has a lot to do with that. I also hope that you'll have other songs from the MGS series on here. MGS has a lot of good music.
