I went to every gig I could and never once was it average or off in any way. I even forgive Pete for joining the ALP(well sort of). It was a great time for Australian music.
@Gosford4ever I don't think there was ever a risk that Pete would have joined The Liberal Party. Just disappointed he chose The ALP and not The Greens.
@Blissbomb2 My son, Gen Y, just asked me, what crap is this? And my Old man used to ask me the same question in 1985. Dont you just feel so sorry for them. As you said, Gen X rules.....
who caught them supporting the Ramones ??? Unfuckingbelievable !!! Any other band would have been blown off stage by the Oil that night, thankfully, Joey and the boys had their own stuff to appease us with but the Oil on that tour took a step up to match the occasion. Funny thing, I have never been sympathetic to anything more than about 60% of their poltical viewpoint . . it's just that they were undeniably the best live rock band in the world for over a decade, simple !!! No Oil - no R.A.T.M .
Hey I'm not stalking... who would of thought. HA maybe I have been here before.. not sure. Memories that is all I'm doing... Carrying on like bloody Sid James. Joke Joyce.. next song I think of is not going to come from nzoz. Graham Bonnet.. It's all over now Babyblue.. Then Warm Ride, If you can find it... HA
@nzoz1979 Hey nzoz, I just received your reply. I'm shocking, I remember doing stuff the other night. This one threw me though. I do love this song. One name Uwe. That's the bloke that this song reminds me most of. Anyway how's The Mentals going with "Come Around"? I do remember that one .... Unless I pressed the wrong key.
god, how this takes me back; i was 18 and just had my heart shredded by a woman too young to know better. i remember reading those orange letters off the black inner sleeve and thinking: "oh god yes, cold cold change, that's her ... " so began a long love affair with the Oils. songs like this got me thru that time, helped get rid of the rage. bless the oils and their memory.
I was roller skating at Liverpool's new rink..... Man I used to think some of the older guys that used to hang around there were not so right... why would 21 yearc olds want to hang around 14-15 year olds....
I call it the Bob Dylan factor, he got too famous and had to change his music to piss off the people that were trying to put him up on a pedastel. Same thing with Midnight Oil, they were australias great rock hope with the 3 albums + bird noises, so they changed their music to a more commercial sound and got rid of their faithful pub fans. Its a shame.
The first 3 albums & Bird Noises were raw, powerful, Aussie melody....unbeatable. They lost me after that.....not saying it was crap, just not as interesting and too produced.
@josamill Right on! 10,9,8... and Red Sails... were good albums but marked a very definite change in direction and sound, mainly due to music/production technology. No one could ignore the Fairlight at that time because it was just SO groundbreaking. Like yourself, give me the rawness of those early classics any day though - every track a winner!
I can understand your resentment at peter becoming a politician
But this vidio, this time frame is 30 years ago they dominated the auss rock scene like the angels and cold chisel i have only seen them 10 times every gig was brilliant i judge them on their performance only
Oils were fantastic till Giffo left, then they sold out. The last GREAT album was 10,9,8. Considering Garret's deal with the wood-chippers in Tas I'm ashamed I ever listened to them.
This band to me is a Australian, Hard Rock/Aussie Rock version of The Clash. I got their album Head Injuries on Itunes. So inspiring and brilliant. Even the sound, vocal and instrument wise is great. ROCK ON!!!!!
this song rocks, the cold cold change we were so excited, cold cold days ahead for the world due to the greedy elite fucking us all over, down with the top two percent, they make us slaves
This song fits perfect to the early post-punk period. They had some serious punk-attitude in the beginning. I also like the power and the passion song, guess they were more new wave when that song came out.
midnight oil is the best oz band ive ever seen and heard i first saw them in byron bay seabreeze hotel in 1979 i think totally wild mate and i had never heard of them but after that nigth and meeting rob hirst they became our no 1 pre surf gee up band maybe 1 day peter will come to his sences and go back to music still listen to them all the time anyone got vids of them doing wedding cake island love it
Interesting observation! You never know, he might be on his best behaviour at the moment, waiting for the day when he becomes PM and then wham! We'll get the old PG back, jumping about, demanding that we 'pay our rent', saving trees, dismantling nuke devices, surfing on spoons and getting high with Daniel Johns.

@dusysoonerable I would, but Graham Bonnet is not Aussie. He is a pom who had success in Australia prior to joining UK band Rainbow.

see 'used & abused' clip from 1977 on my NZOZ1977 account. He does display a head of hair - very short, but hair none the less.

Yes, it was a blonde colour. I went to primary school with him.
BTW my younger brother went to school with Andrew James, the Oil's original bass guitarist who features in this song and left shortly afterwards.
Guess who won the bragging rights in the family home!
