From Fransisco d'Anconia's speech about the nobility of money. Read it, analyse it based on reality not on what your preacher said or what you blindly believe. If you are reallys seeking truth you will recognize it in the speech.
"Or did you say it's the love of money that's the root of all evil? To love a thing is to know and love its nature. To love money is to know and love the fact that money is the creation of the best power within you, and your passkey to trade your effort for the effort of the best among men."
"It's the person who would sell his soul for a nickel, who is the loudest in proclaiming his hatred of money – and he has good reason to hate it. The lovers of money are willing to work for it. They know they are able to deserve it."
Piper never says it's wrong to be rich. God blesses people in different ways. Just don't let money become your god. God doesn't only call pastors & missionaries to be fully committed. Members of the church have different roles, but the commitment is the same. Be faithful in all things. If you are rich, use it in a way that maximally glorifies God. Jesus fed thousands with a few loaves. Imagine how much God can do with $1 & how faithful He will be with $1000. He's the most trustworthy investment.
@erubians1 For someone who likes so many Christian songs, you sure hate a lot on Christians.I don't know what's up, but I can assure you that going around on Piper's videos and bashing him does not glorify God and bless others. Anyways, in the end, it's not about who is talking, but it's about God. Even if John Piper was the most evil person in the world, he's a man of God now. Paul murdered Christians. He killed Stephen. Then he encountered Christ and spread the Gospel in a way few have. PTL
I am a missioary myself. I'm a missionary kid my childhood was African. Nigeria But I also believe that God can prosper someone to bless poor countries. Obviously I don't agree that a preacher may go to a third world country to take their money away. And I also know people generous enough to bless. I want God to prosper me to bless others! THAT'S THE WHOLE PURPOSE OF THE TRUE GOSPEL. AND JESUS DOES HEAL PEOPLE TODAY. I?VE SEEN MIRACLES HAPPENING WITH MY VERY EYES!
@flacuchojuan The response you just gave is exactly what john piper means by how "sophisticated it gets." You say "I want God to prosper ME to bless others. You just don't get it
I am a missioary myself. I'm a missionary kid my childhood was African. Nigeria Equatorial Guinea Senegal Gambia. I suffered a lot. But in little and in plenty I give my word that I was always grateful. I leanred to be grateful and not greedy with my parents. I believe there can be a balance! The love of money is the root of all evil! But I also believe that God can prosper someone to bless poor countries.
My father and my pastor, for instance, they travel at their own expenses! And they NEVER raise an offering for themselves. If the churches where they go to preach at decide to bless them with a special offering they will take it gratefully. I believe that when the Scripture says let the poor say I am rich it is totally true.
I'm a Christian, and believe in prospering God's way. I also believe that Christians can propser God's way. It's not a sin to own money, but to love money and use it for selfish gain, and greed. Many Christians are prospering God's way, and not serving God and money.
YOU CANT SERVE BOTH GOD AND MAMMON! Jesus was talking about stewardship and attitude toward money. When you esteem money over God, and you don't handle money toward furthuring the kingdom, that's when it becomes what the bible calls "mammon"!

Eighter money comes from work or it comes from faith.
Dr. Piper is advocating money from work but rejects it from faith.
Thereofore Dr. Piper does not recognize that HIS MONEY comes from God but himself. He is ingrateful for his life. He is prayerless.
