If there is no code for the preempt meaning that it's generic, it will trigger suspicions right away. It operates on Infrared technology so its feasible that a remote might work. This device is super reliable and ILLEGAL for a civilian to use or own, so illegal that it's a felony. If you're at an intersection that doesn't need to change often because the other direction(s) don't have much traffic then they will read the fact that a car has been sitting there and will work with the programming of the other lights in the area that have been synchronized so that this one will change to let the other traffic go. Red Light/Speeder cams are usually on a pole before the intersection.

this is so fake it isnt universal remote that you use it is a garage door opener remote... inside the remote there are some digits that you have to turn to coincide with the traffic light. the garage door remote is on the same frequency as the traffic light and the code is not 9-1-1.. you have to figure that out on your own.. and the thing near the traffic light is a camera.. not what this moron said!!!

I do oil changes for the local police, and have talked to them about this. There is a special light mounted on the push bar or behind the grille that activates the stop light. It does NOT pick up, or recognize the strobe lights. No details about the special light were given

This might work although when some hack like this gets well known things are apt to get changed. Legally one is on thin ice. Often it just holds the light green. I don't see how it takes a different button every time as surely emergency vehicles don't use TV remotes to hold the light green. for awhile in a certain large Northern California City a laser pointer would work too. I tried this and tested it and it worked. No one got too curious as I was on foot!
