@GerNlcommunity, Yes they are not illegal. It used to be TATA - BENZ as they started making trucks with BENZ's parternership and later parted to make their own trucks with proper rights.
Now they design and make their own and this is the company which owns Land Rover, Jaguar and the truck division of korean Daewoo. They also have a major share in Spanish Bus giant Marko polo. TATAs make from salt, soap, tea, mining ... to satellite parts.
@rowsand , TATA has their hands on the Indian Market pulse. They manufacture what sells in India and economy plays a major role in this market. Initial cost, cost of operation, cost of maintenance and ease of maintenance and repair is key in this market. Also durability in this tough country. How ever their R&D division is world class. For example when VOLVO entered the market TATA brought out an engine which was mostly developed 15 years ago and that beat the VOLVO market.
usually loaded with electronic goods like washing m/c , refrigerators etc...sometimes cigarettes,,,, they are bound to travel thousands of kms llasting for weeks together ....
TATA trucks are actually one of the cheapest and most efficent trucks in asia and are beind use outside India like in Malaysia, Thailand, Iraq, Phillipines.. etc
Tata Trucks use cheap non-precision ancient bulk parts like using heavy leaf springs instead of coil-springs, no fuel management system, no paper filter. But you pay the price with atrocious diesel mileage.
Modern US or European made trucks wouldn't last a week on Indias roads without developing some major problem. Those Tatas are so simple and straightforward that the drivers can do many of their own repairs... Also I can't imagine that diesel mileage is that bad.
What kind of engine does typically power the trucks we see in the movie? Hp, size, turbo/ic?

Some parts of the COE-Tata`s look like parts from Mercedes Trucks from the 70`s. Are these Trucks "license built"?
