hi... I'm restoring my ariens which is very similar to yours... could you take a picture of the choke label for me close up? it is the only one i'm missing.
I have th 10995 model 5hp. it looks exactly like this. The auger doesnt turn now. The sheep bolts/pins are still good. I guess its the auger gear. i wonder if the gear has a pin as well.
I just got a 1968 Model Ariens Sno - Thro,, going to completely Rebuild and refurbish it, with all new seals - gaskets, paint etc. Mine was FREE from the lady up the street in exchange for work on her riding tractor !
i got a ariens 924 and it pushes out whatever i send it slush, water, heavy snow. all i do is "force feed " it and don't slow down and it comes out either off to the side in "bullets", or out further. better than shovelling it!
You may not be able to find the original drift cutters, but the new style ones would probably bolt right on and the nice feature of them now is you can flip them out of the way without any tools.
I looked up that impeller kit. That is a neat idea, thanx for mentioning it. My machine is in rough shape, so modifying it is no big deal. I even increased the impeller speed 30% by swapping pulleys. The best mod I made.
I like the chute shovel, that is a nice safety addition.
I have Carlisle diamond tread tires on my ST504, they look pretty much the same. I run them basically flat(2 PSI) but the rubber is so old and hard that they support the machine fine and they get great traction like that.
Also, my snowblower does not have the differential, so it is "posi" all the time so that helps the traction a bit too.
my dad had a 73 model after 26 years with it he had to sell it to get a bigger snowblower beacuse the one wasnt fast enough to go threw 4 feet of show where we live so he got a yeardmad with trakes on it and he said wish he sold that 73 long time again beacuse they ant good as what they have now better motors
Nice machine. The drift cutters are still available. Fuel stabilizer is better than draining the fuel. The carburator seals and gaskets will dry out if drained. Often people who drain the gas have carburetor leakage issues come winter time and the residual fuel inside the float bowl drys out and leaves a residue that causes clogging issues. Better to always use stabil. It works and is easier than draining the fuel.
Nice Ariens! I have a 71' 7HP Sno-Thro that's almost as nice. And a 73' model that now has a 10HP Tecumseh with a light and a long chute off of a newer Ariens. As far as the wet snow clogging problem goes, neither one of my machines have that issue. My 71' has the full blade fan like yours and my 73' has the L shaped blade fan.
I have the exact same blower but mine isn't as nice as yours though. The electric start I put on it last year was the best investment I have made in a long time.
Let me guess the old discharge chute was probably a rack, and pinion style? Rack, and pinion meaning teeth are around the outside of the chute driven by a thimble sized thing which meshes against the teeth. I thought your snowblower was older than 1971 until you said you converted the discharge chute system. Yes i gotta dump the gas tank on mine every year.
Excellent video Greg and nice machine too! A friend and neighbor of mine also has a 1971 Ariens and it still runs but not look nearly as good as yours.
Wow! That machune is immaculate. Obviously very well maintained. Are you in the corian business? I would have never thought to use corian for that application.
WOW like WOW AMAZING THE THING LOOKS LIKE NEW AND IT'S OVER 30 YEARS OLD very nice job of maintaining this beast my has an early 60's Ariens but it's so rusty you can't even tell the colour of it but it still runs only with wide open choke though the CARB IS WORN OUT TO THE MAX
I have a 1971. It may need a new carburetor. Do you jnow thge model number for the carb?

what are the drift bars for ?
rocsvt1 1 year ago
They are for knocking down (smaller) snow banks and snow drifts.

That thing looks incredible. I have the same one, but the 1970. Can any one send me pics of the carb linkage on this model?

How was the head "rebuilt?" It's not an OHV engine. That chassis looks new, has it been repainted? Nice Machine!

That Ariens is beautiful. I always enjoy seeing an Ariens restoration and your is definitely superb!
It's almost unbelievable how smooth it starts up and runs.
I believe your thoughts are correct on the Snowhogs.
