The whole point of Street Fighter was that the buttons were sensitive to the amount of pressure you used on them, this could never transfer over to a home computer. And even if they could, the arcade game was shite anyway.
what strenght!! but don't forget there are many guys like you all over the world! was so poor in the arcade when it said that, could barely understand it.
I loved Street Fighter 1 regardless of what ultraborb says.
on the spectrum version, all opponents except for Geki and Sagat could be beaten by crouching and punching :) Geki and Sagat messed this up by throwing things at you :\
To be honest, the game was shite in its arcade form, and the Speccy's blips actually connect better than the squishy noises of the original, and the graphics don't look too bad 21 years on.
God love the ambition of people trying to convert late-80s arcade games to the Spectrum, they were mad fuckers! And they actually managed to succeed sometimes (R-Type was ace).
Anyway, SF1 is a truly shit pile of fucking shit, in any form, and should not be played.
a lot of the time with coin op conversions, the speccy used to produce better games in comparison to the st and amiga, this game is a typical example,
At least you can see what's going on. Nice clear sprites which don't merge into the backround. Also it has an energy bar which makes the fighting more exciting.
Fairly limited in the move department but good nevertheless. The only disadvantage about Fist was that one hit ended the fight. It would have been better with an energy bar.
Well I think this has aged reasonably well. I was quite impressed by the size of the 'Birdie' sprite- (the 7foot punk from Britain)but I could never get past the bloke who's fighting stance looks like he needs the toilet.. I forget his name.
Graphically looks very good. Maybe a bit repetitive but, hey, it is a fighting game and it does the job! Wouldn't like to bump into that Birdie bloke down a dark alley though! The guy you couldn't get past must be Loo...or is it Lee?
Was number 2 ever released on the speccy? My mate got it on the C64 and it was horrible. I uesed to buy Zzap 64 and for months it was number one on the sales chart. Horrible game!
Yeh, Street fighter 2 was released for the speccy. Tried to play it today but it crashes when you pick a fighter. Never played either game before but 2 seems to get a thumbs down from what I've heard. I was looking forward to playing it as well! Looks like better graphics but a lot harder!
Birdie and Eagle from England. Nice.

I used to enjoy this on the spectrum. One question though how comes Ryu's energy is not being affected, even when he is punched. Stop Cheating! :-)

Were there no special moves like the fireball or dragonpunch on the Speccy version?
Edam3000 1 year ago
@Edam3000 Just the basic crouch punch and kick combos. Even a fireball would have come in handy.
SPINNYFUCK 1 year ago
@SPINNYFUCK True; and I wonder if the Amstrad or C64 versions were the same?
Edam3000 1 year ago
better than the amstrad port imo...

Only the best peccy fighter regardless of what others say. Great graphics and at least one hit didn't end the round.

I enjoyed playing this game. A nice variety of different characters and pleasing graphics. Maybe a bit tough on later levels but a pretty good game.

Good bone crunching sounds and knuckle fucking punches.

Time for you to dig it out and try again. You cannot give up on level 2!

This was a nice conversion for the speccy. At least a bit of effort went into it.
R-Type was just awesome. How they managed to achieve it is beyond me. Superb game.

I wouldn't know about that but I did watch the Amiga version of Road Blasters and that looks pretty good compared to the speccy version.

The guy on the cover looks like Ryo Hazuki from Shenmue!

To me it was one of the toughest games. I usually crouched + punched all the time.
