I have barely any trees young enough to climb in my forest, just old hemlocks. Its sad my climbing is all done in three apple trees in my yard. Any advice?

Try leaving all your stuff with a mate, and just run for as long as you can without stopping, I found the more you do it you get a better vision for this type of enviroment :)
