I can't stand Jim 'Kiss WWE's Ass' Ross, he's such a fucking disgrace. I used to respect him, but now? Nah. I recall Ric Flair complaining about how Bill Shaw or Bill Herd or some other fuckwit had JR pour drinks for him. JR likely did it out of choice, in an effort to kiss his then-bosses' ass just as much as he kisses Vince's. How many times do you need to get fired before you realise you're a JOKE to your employer? Vince might be wrong, but either way, JR needs to get some fucking dignity
@cfhcowboy I think the event changed names actually and was called Hog wild in the beginning, changing to Road Wild later on. You´re probably still right about Nash though.
Kevin Nash never respected the business and still doesn't. He takes what he can get from it, uses people for his own gain, He basically ruined the best angle that WCW had going, because Goldberg got more heat than him.
See during the 80s you could have the payoff for a main event storyline or a bigtime midcard storyline take place on a PPV, but if it was just some midcard/undercard angle, they would let it carry over on the hotbed circuit in Boston, Toronto, Philly, and New York, and they would work on building it up on the house show circuit.
@lildwayne21 Of course,WWE didn't have as many PPVS in the mid 80's until they added Survivor Series and Summerslam. The first Royal Rumble was broadcast on the USA Network.
Yeah, Mean Gene is right about that. A lot of outdoor events were house shows in retrospect. They weren't what you and I would consider to be PPV events today. They were the payoff shows. During the mid to late 80s in the WWF when they needed a payoff for an angle, they had a couple of options. They could have done it on Superstars of Wrestling, Wrestling Challenge, Saturday Night's Main Event or they could have done it at an MSG or Boston show, but generally they didn't end angles on PPV.
Haku was that dude! He was such an underrated worker in the ring during the 80s. During the 80s and early 90s Haku was a real workhorse inside that ring. I think he started to get lazy when 1992 rolled around, but from like 1986-1992 Haku was one of the best wrestlers in the WWF at that time. A lot of people complain that Haku needed to work with somebody who complements his style in order to have a good match, but over the years I've found that claim to be a blown a lil out of proportion.
@CoryByrd2006 WM11 and WM9 are the two worst for sure in terms of their cards.WWF spared no expense for 9,but that doesn't constitute a solid wrestling card.most Wrestlemanias have always been more memorable for their "unexpected" events as opposed to the matches themselves.
@landrykkb : Well, Wrestlemania is more about 'moments' than 'matches.' I think people are too hard on WM9. The HBK/Tatanka match was good. The Luger/Perfect match was good, Mega Maniacs/Money I.N.C was decent, and the Bret/Yoko match was good. It certainly isn't the worst. In fact I would say last year's Wrestlemania 27 was worse than 9. That card was TERRIBLE and the matches were horrendous. Of course I agree totally that Wrestlemania 11 was a COMPLETE disaster.
@PureDynamiteKid 11 is hands down the worst ever. Bad location (HARTFORD, CT!?!?). Main event was LT vs. Bam Bam (though that ended up being a solid match)...WWF title was completely secondary. Just absymal
@cbaldwinjr I agree. Let's not forget that it was 1995, argubly the worst years in Wrestling ever. I Don't know how famous Taylor was at that time as i'm English and don't follow NFL but Nash had to be taken from the Main Event as he was the lowest drawing WWF Champ ever. I liked the Yokozuna return but besides that i thought it was terrible
@UKHeihachi Definitely. You know what other Wrestlemania is an overrated Wrestlemania? Wrestlemania One. I'm from Brooklyn, New York. I grew up attending a lot of MSG house shows, so to me growing up as a kid Wrestlemania One came off to me as just another standard 80s MSG house show with some celebrities thrown in, and Vince McMahon basically taking a big gamble. I don't think I really started getting into Wrestlemania until WM II, b/c to a NY nigga Wrestlemania One wasn't shit.
@UKHeihachi There are MSG house show events from the 80s that are better than the very first Wrestlemania. Quite frankly Wrestlemania 1 could have been better I think, because the undercard was weak as fuck. Wrestlemania was all about the main event between Mr. T and Hogan versus Piper and Orndorff. Look at the undercard though. The undercard wasn't shit. You could have gone to any house show in the country at that time and paid to see some of those weak ass undercard matches.
I find it amusing that everyone on the panel speaks of the WWE in such noble terms, but everyone else missed the mark. More of the WWE stroking their own ego.
@seancarletonzero Yes, but it would be Shawn or Bret who carry those matches and do all the work to make them look as good as they can look when you're going up against a 7 foot 300 pound lazy monster who only knows about 6 moves
0:43 - Captain Anderson of the SSV Normandy? Sure sounds a lot like him.
