The justice of the peace has the right to deny anyone service. There are no laws that force him to do deal with someone he doesn't want to deal with. However, there was no reason for him not to marrying the couple. It sounds like he has racial issues he needs to deal with. Maybe a family member went through a similar ordeal or something. The couples can try to sue him but I seriously doubt they'll get anywhere with it. It will go down in history as an unfortunate incident and that's all.

The Supreme Court ruled on this in 1967.,,unanimously. There is no gray area here. Keith Bardwell violated the law.

What if a justice of the peace refused to marry a gay couple based on his personal christian beliefs? That wouldn't be as big of a deal as this because there are a lot of people still on both sides of the gay marriage argument.

You can't change reality by writing laws. Eventually the truth comes out and either the law changes, or everyone gets tired of going to jail and begins to kill the elements in the gummint who did what they did.

Shit ! Laws do work most of the time when they're enforced. Let the national guard step in,we get things done.Except Hurricane Katrina which was Bush's fault. :)

Some laws are necessary, but when you start telling people who they have to sell their house to, or what kind of food they have to eat, or that they can or can not say certain things, you go outside the bounds of the Constitution. Affirmative Action was a set of illegal laws, and more a part of a political agenda than fact based rules.

Fact: affirmative action has helped more white women in this country. Dude u been sleeping with the enemy! Now they want all the big dick black men. Sorry ! It all comes to the "green an authority", not black or white in USA now. The natives here were told to "sell" their land or have it taken "legally". What goes around comes around.
