Is this video of Richard Trumka supposed to be scary? I'm not really afraid of international unions. If there was international independent unions across the globe that can collectively bargain, wages in places like China wouldnt be so low and that comparative advantage on wages would be erased.

I am proud union also. However, I am proud to be in a unioni that represents me while I work in a private company operating in a free market republic. I don't want my union owning that company, nor do I want the state controlling anything. Since when does government do anything effectively? Then who would represent me against the union?

America was a place where people with nothing could innovate and work, and many became rich because of freedom, as evidenced by the millions who immigrated here and did just that. My parents were dirt poor while growing up, and because of free market capitalism, they worked (with no collee degrees) at building businesses and became wealthy. That was America. and hey............... haven't they been asking the gov't to give them a bail out? I used to work at UPS. The only time I heard from the union when they put pressure on the drivers to make weekly donations to the United Way. They weren't to be ignored. If you didn't sign a pledge they came to talk & pressure you into a commitment. And of coasre you saw the dues magically disappear every pay period.
