Starting a clinic to offer services for health and making a profit is fine! I have no problem with that! Health insurance and Insurance in general are all PROFIT CASH COWS. They offer NO SERVICES. They just collect money and pay for small things that would not CUT into their profit. You will pay for my healthcare as I will pay for yours. My wife and I do WELL for ourselves and do not mind paying taxes to insure that our children will not be denied treatment due to a profit margin!

@Silveracity A "Company to provide healthcare"? Do you mean Doctors, Nurses, medical equipment and medicine? Because if you don't mean that then I don't know of ANY insurance company that has given me Medical Care. In fact, denying healthcare OR making coding for healthcare billing so complex that patients or doctors may never get reimbursed is VERY profitable: 18% and higher overhead.

Compare this to Medicare and the V.A. - both popular but only 3% overhead.

If you have every gone to a hospital, chances are, that hospital was run by a corporation. Something like Hospital Corporation of America runs. Profit is the motivation for running health care well. But if you don't care what health care costs, you have endless amounts of money or you are making someone else pay your bills.

@Silveracity I think you mean “competition”. “Profit”, by definition, is the antithesis of putting resources into patient care. How can 18% costs be better than 3% costs? Walter Reed (military) is good enough to treat U.S. Presidents. Are Republicans against for Congress' healthcare plan?

Do soldiers legislate while fighting a war? Why is this call to inject business into healthcare so popular? Because corporations know that lobbying public opinion is just as important as lobbying Congress.

Dude read the bill. This new plan only covers you for preexisting conditions if you can afford it. You don't get to decide if you can afford it or not. If you make more then the poverty level ($28,000) you MUST buy the government plan which can run more than $10k or face jail time.

This isn't hypocrisy. The Republicans stood up and clapped because they are infavor of ending the practice of denying coverage because of pre-existing conditions. Get your facts straight.

It's other parts of the bill that they object to like the 2000 page length, the coverage of abortions, the absence of tort reform, the extra taxes on medical devices, the cuts to medicaid, the absense of reform leting insurers sell accross state lines, and the nearly 2 trilion dollar price tag. Look it up.

*sigh* I found the text of the bill and you are half correct. The Boehner Bill creates pools for people with Pre-existing conditions just as the Dems Bill does, but it doesn't actually eliminate it all together like the Dems bill does by 2013. This is clearly not adequate & not in line with what other GOP leaders have indicated in the past. That section of the bill needs to be amended before I can fully support the bill.

@TheOriginalLonestar I appreciate your candor on the matter, I was just reading your comments and you seem to have made some sensible/respectful comments, I may butt heads w/ you on the bill but regardless, appreciate the respect, so, what do you think about the option for states to drop out of the public option, isn't that a fairly good compromise that would satisfy most people. red states can drop out, and blue states can keep.

I do think the spirit of the Opt-out option is good, but it is unlikely to be attractive to most Red states. If all states are required to collect the increased taxes & fees for the national insurance pool it makes no sense to then opt-out. I'd be paying more for less benefits. No, I think the Dems could better ease my concerns by removing the abortion text, adding tort reform, allowing cross-state insurance sales. That said, my priority is ending the pre-existing condition exclusions.

Neither of you get. Learn how Congress works. The Reps are loud because thats about all they have to influence the process. The Dems have a majority in both houses of Congress, Pelosi and Reid refuse to let Rep bills be hered out of commitee (It's their job to send sponsored bills to the floor for discussion), and the Dems have a big enough majority to prevent filibusters.

And dont forget that the so called Reconciliation process has been invoked.
