  • It used to hurt like hell , but we all had the same looking haircut then.

  • i want that thing! do they still make those? ^^

  • Hair jizz?

  • That bRber is balsy! Cutting hair with a razor.

  • Bring these back!

  • Is that a young Andrew Dice Clay at 1:21? lol

  • those sideburns would fall under gun control laws today.

  • "Why trust your family's appearance to a cheap gadget?"

    "Only $2.98".

    LOL

  • @apachette07 Exactly what I was about to point out! LOL

  • @saugagirl83 LOL. Epic stuff right here.

  • It's not until the final 10 seconds that they smile (they all look peeved before that, as in "you can't give me the money for a haircut" woman or the kid who looks like he just got a whoopin' a few minutes before. I've never had a haircut by one of these, but I was wondering from those who did....if someone had little bumps (like a zit) in the scalp, is the wiz going to slice right through it and get blood all over? Also, it looks like it could pull hair out if done improperly.

  • haha mutten chops

  • do they sell those? where can i find them they need them in Detroit

  • do they sell those? where can i find them they need them in detroit

  • wonder if they still sell those they should sell them in detroit

  • "Why trust your familys appearance to a cheap gadget"?

  • Are you tired of gouging your children? Get the Hair Wiz!

  • In late 1974, there was a lawsuit in Minneapolis regarding the Hair Wiz. A housewife tried to use it to trim her pubic hair and actually took out a 4cm chuck of skin from her left labia. One of her arguments at trial was that if the Hair Wiz was constructed to trim overgrown, or "bushy" sideburns, then it should've work on her pubic hair. The jury ruled in favor of the defendant, but the term "bush" was born. Also, she was the only women in the entire decade to try to shave her pubes.

  • But wait these more.

  • Haha! "If your sideburns get too bushy..."

    Sooooo 70's!

  • @Canadianabanana Totally!!!!

  • only 2..98

  • Sideburns too bushy? Hell yes!

  • Of course they hurt like hell! I've been a hairdresser for almost 42 yrs & you NEVER, I repeat, never, do a razor cut on dry hair...unless you want split ends AND PAIN

  • 2.98 huh? okay, these days more like 14.98... i wish i was born in the 80's

  • @KisaKittyLove i mean 70's

  • "no matter how much they squirm"

and the kid is sitting there patiently and angry

  • ..

    I love seventies hair styles.

  • :D That gotta be one of the funiest things I seen! I well want one!

  • "no matter how much they squirm"

  • Yeah, I know, sounds like some kind of torturetool!

  • I used a hair wiz for years and would still be using it if I could find replacement blades. If used properly no hair is "ripped" out and there is no pain. A lot of people don't like to bother with instructions so I imagine those are the ones complaining about it. It was simply the easiest CHEAPEST, BEST haircut in town. I still have my original Hair Wiz and would love to find some blades!

And by the way, they were made in the U.S.A., not Taiwan.

  • Those things SUCKED, even with a brand new blade they pulled your hair. OUCH

  • Just the thing to groom the mutton chops. Thanks for the very cool flashback:-)

  • OMG I SO WANT IT!!!

  • My mom was a professional beautician before she married. So she knew how to use this thing properly. I don't remember my dad or brothers ever bleeding because of it. Maybe it should only be used by professionals.

  • i remember the pain.

  • I keep my (bald and balding) hair short and I found one of these in a box in a closet. I used it yesterday and if you do it with some care and skill, it works great! One side cuts at 1/16", the other 1/4". Not cheapo blades- Szabo-Weber, Zurich Switzerland!

You have to be reasonably coordinated to use it.

  • My mom used this torture device on my back in the 70"s, there was blood and gore everywhere after the damn thing would rip my hair out. In the 80's, my girlfriend bought a damn flowbee, not only did that rip the hair out too, but the vacuum sucked up all the blood and guts...(she did the pubes too). I am not sure if that technology was headed for the right direction. Now I am losing my hair and the flowbee keeps the dogs ass trimmed.

  • These things were like a medieval torture device. Those made in Taiwan blades and cheapo plastic comb combined in a unholy alliance to send us kids running in terror for the back yard. :(

  • My mom had one.I remeber screaming alot as the dull razor ripped the hair from my head. This aint no joke that shit hurt.

  • Your mom either was using one with dull blades or she didn't bother with the instructions.

  • Even though I was around in the 70s, I was still shocked at the sight of that man's sideburns - guess it's been a long time since I've seen sideburns!

  • In today's economy, they should update and re-air this commercial! $2.98 in 1974 = $12.84 today, still a great deal!

Or they could have Steve Carell use this on "the Office"! :)

  • my mother used that on me once . hurt like hell . awful . that is one thing from the 70's i don't miss

  • im still waiting for my money back

  • OMG!! my Dad had one!! it is funny when they talk about bushy side burns!!

  • shen your sideburn become to bushie lol

  • I got one in 1974 from Peoples Drugs to cut my own hair. I used it for over twenty years and misplaced it when I moved to New Mexico in 1998. I saved thousands of dollars with my Hair Wiz. I just found it today, the blades in it are still sharp and I'm in need of a haircut. The sideburns are getting too bushy. It's the best $2.98, about $18 in todays money, that I ever spent!

  • @JWKPHOTO Awesome!

  • I bought one Christmas 1974 and they said nothing about the difficulty of trimming Afros... I want my 2.98 back and also half of my ear @#%*!

  • Love the sideburns

  • How in the world can it cut a womans hair? I'd think It would just make more split ends or something, people really fell for that one!

  • ahhhh my mom had that! I got a hair cut from her when I was like 2. all the dam hair falling down your shirt!

  • I had one of these.. it doesnt actually cut your hair, it just thins it out a lot.. it didnt shorten the length at all.

  • Lmao @ "cheap gadget" and that thing was $2.98. Love it!

  • "if your side burns gets to bushy"....awesome....lol

  • O, how I love a 70's kitchen.....

  • When I was 4 I gave myself a reverse mohawk with one of these.

  • Holy Mutton Chops!

  • flowbee the prequel

  • Hairwiz blades were used by terrorists on 9/11. The news media called them "box cutters".

  • gosh that man's chops are HUGE!!!!!!

  • And to think, I spent all that time in school to learn to cut hair lol.. One qustion? What do you do when the hairline grows out? This has the interior covered (for a month, anyway), but what then?

  • I thought for sure it would end with "by Ronco"! loool

  • ...I've still got one! Still going strong!

  • Lmao @ cheap gadget and it's $2.98...smh. I remember the flowbie....

  • I am on the floor howling!! I remember this and right now I could use one of these! Thanks for sharing this!

  • I love how she's cutting her hair after having set and sprayed it into a flip. That'll work great.

  • Your remark made me laugh until I cried. And yet it's so true.....=)

  • Your remark is so funny yet, so true!!!

  • oh, sideburns. is there any hairstyle you can't make classier?

  • Wonder why it didn't take off..

    Seems like a good idea..

  • "Why trust your family's appearance to a cheap gadget" LOL

  • I NEEDED ONE OF THOSE LAST WEEK!

I went from one barber and salon to the next, and everyone was either booked, there was a long wait or they were not taking walk ins!

  • She's trimming that guy's hair in the kitchen LOLZ.

  • the razor went dull after the first cut, but mom kept using it

  • LOL! I so remember this!

  • This gadget was just too fancy for my house.

  • That dude is totally workin' the 1974 sideburns!

  • Pork chops sideburns----

    an butt huggin bell bottoms

  • I was waiting to hear..."But wait! There is more!"

Eating Cheese-Wiz when getting your haircut with a Hair-Wiz! What a country!

  • I remember that. I don't remember the commercial, but I remember that device. What a trip.

  • $2.98! What a rip off.

  • Announcer: "So why trust your family's appearance to a cheap gadget?"

    Did he actually say that?

I agree with other posters... When my Mom pulled it out, I started whining. Damn, it hurt.

  • I swear I thought the announcer was going to say: "No matter how much they squirm you can give them a good smack" because that's what me and my brothers got. Oh, the PAIN!! Oh, the itch from the wet pricklies down the back!!!

  • Hahahahahaha!

  • I want sideburns like the guy at :44 seconds.

  • he prefers them as "mutton chops".

  • I wonder how well that thing actually worked? Judging by the fact that they don't make them anymore, probably not very well.

  • I remember these! My mom cut my hair with one a few times, and all I remember is how it yanked my hair with every pass. Ouch!

  • razor behind the clips.

  • I hated this thing. My mom used to use this on me as a kid, it ripped the hair off my head. AHHHH!

  • I still have the Flowbie my dad used to cut our hair when we were kids. Good times, good times.

  • "Why trust your family's appearance to a cheap gadget?"

    Yes, why indeed.

  • Why trust your family's appearnace to a cheap gadget, indeed?

  • My dad used this on me when I was in gradeschool and I looked terrible for five years. LOL!

  • I prefer Kut-n-Sux better. Attaches to yer vacuum cleaner. For your head hair == it cuts, and it sucks! I think Ron Popeil invented it.

  • It certainly does suck!!

TURN IT OFF, MAN!! TURN IT OFF!! IT'S SUCKING MY WILL TO LIVE!!!

  • "....Tears, screams, follicle damage and slaps from Mom not included"

  • LOL! :-)

  • That's the truth! LOL! Slaps from mom I remember those!

  • No matter how much they squirm...

  • why trust a cheap gadget, when you can use a slightly more expensive gadget!

  • This woulda worked fine if you were a member of The Yardbirds or The Monkees. Just how much weed was everyone smoking in the 70's to scrape up ideas like this?

  • TOKE OUT!!!!!!! I KNOW

  • ohmygod...I remember that thing!! (yep, getting old)

  • Wow, get a load of those chops! :)

  • MUTTON CHOPS N BUTT HUGGIN JEANS

  • 2.98 was the old 19.99 products of today. I haven't had a belly laugh in a long time, thanks for the video!!!

  • Wonderful

  • A HAIRWIZ is a hair comb and hair cutter in one in the 1970's!

  • My favorite line is: "Why trust your family's appearance to a cheap gadget?" AHAHAHA!

  • Who nicks and gouges their child while cutting their hair?

  • Someone who uses the HairWiz, that's who.

I say this as a one-time squirming kid whose parents dragged this glorified paint scraper across his little noggin a few times.

Ah, but whaddaya expect for $2.98?

  • 'When your sideburns get too bushy you can use the 3.0 edge ' - Lol ! Hillarious ! Cheers for posting this !

  • Good stuff. More please!

  • The picture and audio quality of this video is outstanding. An excellent find.

  • "no matter how much they squirm" is TEH muchlulz
