@WaronMax Well you could learn basic modeling by looking at other tutorials. But the coding is all C++, which is kinda hard to learn if you havent programmed before :P

Hey, max I started to make a map doing exactly what you said. I also did the func_brush thingy to fix the errors. The problem is I am getting an BLACKED OUT map in my game. And in the compiler it says: Loadportals : couldn't read e:\Steam\steamapps\common\alie­nswarm\swarm\maps\maptest.prt

I tried searching over the net for portal error but cudnt fix it. Please let me know if I am doing something wrong.

@zacsika97 Go to: tools -> load portalfile, it will ask if you wanna make a new one. Then look at the map and see where the red line goes outside your map. This is the place it leaks.

@zacsika97 its Under "Map" thats correct.. i've had the same issues, make sure that the Structure_seal is hollow (make a brush, and make hollow), tie it to an entity etc., hope it helps...

@123epiclose You are probably in a side / top / front view. Try changing it by clicking on the name in the top left corner (like: top or camera) etc.

I am sorry to bother you, but how exactly do you find the maps folder when you select 'save as"? I saved the map in a new folder I made on my desktop, which is probably why I can't open the map in the developer console.

@breilwynn go to your steam installation folder then steamapps then common i think then theres an alien swarm folder and in there is a folder maps. Put it there

@i82mini It comes free with any Valve game! So if you have Half life 2, Alien swarm (WHICH IS FREE!!!), or Counter Strike Source for example then you will have it! Just go to 'TOOLS' in the library section of Steam and install the: Source SDK

I followed this, but when i loaded the map, The camera appeared to be at the ground where i set my spawn. There was also no Character selection screen, and all my other teamates were dead, according to the Hud. I could look around a little, but i could not see myself, or move. Could anyone please help?

I'm not getting a .BSP file after compiling... I've been looking around but I can't find any solution on the net and everything I've tried over the past like 4 hours hasn't worked...

For those with the no planes error, it means your map is 'leaking'.

Quick fix: Use the black nolight cube to seal everything off. You do this by selecting the nolight box, pressing Ctrl+T, make it a func_brush as class and then name it "structure_seal".

Whats really irritating is that my editor fucks up after about fifteen minutes and my four windows displaying Camera, top, side yea and whatever they stop showing anything.. just blank. This "editor" is a complete mess-up :S Paying time to this editor is just a waste of time, dont release an editor thats crashing every 15 min !
