most people miss the moment near the end when harold and maud are sidding gazing out to see...harold notices some numbers tatooed on mauds arm and asks about them she bruses him off with a iit dosent matter remark...but it does matter it is the reason for her force of nature spirit...and her decicion to die at 80.....beautyful movie...

@MrCrispian They were the tattoos that Jews were given in concentration camps during WWII. It also kind of explains why she lives everyday like it's her last, because the character had spent a period of her life not knowing if she would live to see another day during WWII.

Harold, the 18-year-old boy who commits suicide in 15 different ways.

@TheLucie1995 He fakes his suicide in many ways...in order to gain attention/affection from his mother,He explains to Maud that when his mother thought he died in the chemstry lab explosion she showed genuine emotion for him, since then he was seeking the same attention / love....

@Louhila You needn't be jealous of her, the story is a deep tragedy as well as a comedy. Maude paid dearly for gaining the ability to let so much go of all that is irrelevant, and learning to "catch the now". Remember, it was a concentration camp that taught her this.

But the movie reminds us all that we can do the same without going through such horrors. We just need to remind ourselves of our mortality and then ENJOY life while it's HERE.Thank you, Maude.

Great movie,it especially touches my heart in that scene when Harold sees the tattoo on Maude´s arm (nazi death camp?), this is when you realize what Maude already had to suffer and why she loves life so dearly. In the end she saves Harold´s life by sharing her love for life with him *sigh*...besides the music fits wonderful into the plot.
