It's only a slave server PC with faders in the front and of course it uses midi networking. It's like buying a computer off the shelf vs. building your own in a way, except for the sole purpose of running vst software. That's the same software you can run under Windows or Mac, really. I'm not downplaying the idea of this, but it's as much of a "hardware vst player" as any normal PC is. That's good in terms of flexibility, but of course bottlenecked by the specs of the machine.
