  • With his voice pure or later (like here) Raspy or pure just gotta love Harry. With much of his voice gone listen to "Salman Falls"...just great, still!!!

  • Xlint performance but it's soo hard to listen to Nilsson ruin his voice!! The times with Lennon finished his sweet highs and breath control!!

  • Great performance, great song -- and what moynonet said, too.

Good job, 45rpm; thank you so much.

Best of holidays and new year to everyone.

  • Such a great song - I'm going to have to pick up this record, I"ve had it running through my head all week from the great hits CD set! Truly stunning, and Harry's voice really put the great Randy Newman composition over the top!

  • この曲を分かるのに、30年以上かかった。。。

  • YOU ARE SO GREAT ! A VET FROM THE DMZ ! SO WRIGHT ! You said it so RIGHT ! TALL58

  • Dave Van Ronk did a slam bang soulful version of this tune, that so far, appears to blow everyone else's clear out of the water...

  • Worth it alone for all the great shots of all his singles! Thanks!

  • amazing man to touch so many with his art

  • I think if they (Stones, Beatles..) had video. The storey-telling in thelr voices would be gone. You had to use your ears (mind) and not your eyes. Just a thought.

  • awesome awesome awesome!!!! I am sad to say I have just recently discovered this cat. I watched the movie "Who is Harry Nilsson and why is everybody talkin about him" Great talent. As far as his drug use, he was excessive. My question is this-If he had not taken that path, would he have made this music?

  • @Raiderfn31 Plenty of great music has been writen without drugs, his may well have been better without, he certainly would have writen more.

  • I am so glad that the beatles did not have the technology of today. All originality has gone out the window. Notihing like the classic.

  • This was 1976.... you all need to realize that back then the sound systems, equipment, video was just beginning for music. Leon Russell/Rolling Stones/Beatles...all of them. Imagine if they had all the technology the musicians have today!!!!! WOW.... What a shame they did not have what is here today!

  • I'm 27 years old and today I bought my first "oldies" album, "Nilsson Schmilsson". I normally don't even listen to this kind of music but after hearing this song and searching for others, I was hooked. His voice is haunting but in a good way. I really dig his music and I look forward to discovering more of his songs.

  • @BelaskoTheNinja

All of his songs are amazing.

  • Prefer Newman's but Nilsson does a bloody good of it

  • Back from when singers just plain old SANG without whining.... As a 26 year old singer/songwriter, I wish I could've been part of the Nilsson/Newman era.

  • If you didnt know him personally or were'nt present when it happened, then your info is just use-less information, so sit back and enjoy! Or turn off your enter net machine and take a nice walk.

  • I f you can sell 'Pet Rocks', you can sell anything, including slavery. If you can sell slavery, you can sell anything, including climate change denialism.

  • Last good song from Nilssson. His voice was almost shot by this point.

  • @jojopuppyfish Thak J Lennon for making his sing the screaming high note on Many Rivers to Cross. Nilsson ruined his high octave vocal cords in the ending of that song. I was there.

  • @bdicat He can only blame himself. Every singer should know his limits.....even if they are working with the beatles. Did you know that Peter Ham would get into arguments with Paul Mccartney? You have to stand up for yourself and Harry should have said that he needed a break.

  • @jojopuppyfish You mean the last good vocal, not the last good SONG. Respect his musicianship 2.

  • quite touching cover by Harry! Thank you for sharing this gem.

  • randy newman wrote this before harry

  • One of the very few artists who actually make me cry

  • love this song

  • Nilsson was one hell of a vocalist! Love this mans music, got practically most of his Lp's. Shame though by this song his voice had gotten really rough. Great post!

  • @JamesBond531 I actually prefer his voice like that. It's got that pure quality with a broken edge. More true to life; the beauty is cut with a dash of brokenness.

  • @jwinmedia Raspy or pure, the mans voice was excellent! I could sit an listen to him for hours!

  • Everything is relative to your own predicament. It can be good it can be bad but others may see it in a different way.

  • A beautifully disturbing song.

  • this is one of my mother's favorite artists, so i used to hear this song a lot when i was younger. Now i listen to it as a teenager for the first time and it's making me cry because i understand. also, the phenominal vocals help.

  • Guess that's the diffrence between a big voie and the writer's. Nillson even does him.

  • Linda Ronstadt did a sweet satyrical version of this song on her "Don't Cry Now" album.

  • great song! I live in charleston, sc

  • @PhillipH903 Your city is so beautiful but it's also so disturbing to realize where so much of its wealth came from. I had such conflicting emotions when I visited. No offense, Phillip, and glad you can appreciate the song--Randy Newman is one of my favorite songwriters.

  • 0:16 Not for sale. That's Nilsson's humor for ya

  • means it's a promo copy

  • I want these singles so bad.

What album were the songs "down to the valley" and "buy my album" from?

  • The Point!

  • not heard this one by Nilsson before thanks
