Listen to bands like the rolling stones when they tour years after they originally were famous. THe voices have always changed. Witney was out of practise for years and her voice is nowhere near as damaged as Marianne Faithful for example. I think she has enormous guts to make a comeback after the hideous things that were said during her cocaine days.
Oh My God! What a VOICE. How stunning! The acapella intro proves she had the greatest voice ever. The talent that she was gifted with and the improvisation are just amazing. I would pay money to see her just stand on stage and lipsync her biggest hits!

i think her voice was amazing in 1999. i love her performance of IWALY on the divas live in 1999. i thought she did fantastic. she always does fantastic though, imo. at least in the past.
seems she had good and bad years with her voice, some of her performances from 1997 were not great in my opinion, yet she did a great job of IWAKY in tokyo that year. 1999 her voice was amazing, IWALY live in london was insanely good. Really 1999 was the last time she had her old voice, i thought that in 2000 some of her live singing was not great, especially Oscars and it was a downward slope from there really. i like her IWALY from russia 2009 but at the moment she is not singing it well.

Her versatility is impeccable!!! Most of these new so called singers can't adlib a song to save their lives!! Simply because most of them have no creativity , nerve or control over their voice, causing them to sing it the exact same way each time.This DIVA has reinvented this song over and over!! @Iamonad Yeah well but if Whitney sang the song live as she did in the studio, it wouldn't be a Whitney performance. She always changes on live performances on purpose. And taking into account, her suffered vocal nodules in 1994 so asking her to sing IWALY the same as she recorded it during this performance would be impossible. The performance is still magical and touching. No one can perform live like Whitney Houston - fact.

I would rather enjoy her interpretation of how she's feelng the song at the time. Makes it more intimate and diverse. She's never boring or predictable with her performances. Thats what real talent is about.

I feel bad for Whitney because she sang this song so many times. As beautiful as it is, it must be really annoying singing it as much as she has. Then again, this song really did make her career rocket and live renditions were always her show stopper.

Things I will never understand, why do MC fans come to Whitney Houston videos?. It seems like they're trying to find some validations, or trying to reassure themselves that MC is better. Why can't they accept that Whitney is in a league of their own...? Good for MC if she has sold more albums and has more number ones but Whitney is the reference when it comes to singing, especially live. She is the best. And that doesn't take anything from MC.

Lol I am a MC fan and a WH fan too! I love them both and I truly think that they have their own strength in singing they're complementary!!! Whitney would sh.... on Mariah vocally and Mariah range so overrated. Whitney in prime just as much range better control over her registers by far. I have heard Whitney do whistle highs to baritone lows, and in between effortlessly with control.

Funnily enough, Mariah LOOKS so different now compared to her first album. Her face has really filled out,and she was so skinny back then.Her voice has changed but nowhere near as much as Whitney's.

Yes she does she truly had to have some opera training. True coloratura soprano like Betty Nelson, Jeane Carne, Cissy etc. Those women can do runs, thrills, and transitions all in head and superhead so effortlessly!
