  • yeah, nothing actually stopping the low kick connecting...tai sabaki is all very well, but you actually have to be out of the way...

  • a strong mawashi geri in your knee witout having your knee bended and fortified will result in awesome injury which will take about 6 months to heal ! Have fun tryin' it.

  • so, basically, instead of being kicked in one leg he's changing the position and is kicked in the other leg. I don't see the point...

Also because he's trying to high kick at the same time so the leg he's standing on and being kicked at is quite vulnerable. Unless the one that kicks mawashi geri gedan isn't trying to kick hard. But then again why all the trick at all??

  • this is not Shotokan

  • @andrea2993 yes that's kyokushin karate not shotokan karate :)

  • It looks nice..but it doenst work

  • it's good for drill but not really applicable in real fight

  • Very good!

  • Grande Shian Andrea...spero che presto potrò partecipare ad un tuo stage...P.s. Sono stato a quello presso la tua palestra nell' agosto del 2008...sono Angelo, Napoli!!!osu

  • I have used this, it is deadly and takes the other guy out...

  • This works, they are probably trying to make you fall down when kicking at the leg like that.

  • Wont the kick sweep you of your feet? Fighters like Yamaki and Kancho Matsui like to sweep a lot and it seems that it isnt so smart to counter a low kick by doing a high kick at the same time. Just my 2 cents.

  • @stoyashot

actually this is the most misplaced counter ive seen so far .

  • @stoyashot He firstly evaded the low kick, then did the high kick...

  • @stoyashot he is turning to the left so the kick hits your front legs.. it's hard to sweep a person if you hit his front legs so this would be possible. and it's good training too

  • @plowenson Yes, I agree. Also good training for balance while turning and coordination. I have quit with karate but its a beautiful sport it just happens that I fell in love with other different sports like windsurfing and freediving. Best thing was doing good mea-mawasi geri and catching brown/black belts of guard.

  • @stoyashot LOL. yes I know how it feels to surprise the higher ranking friends :P for me I just love karate mainly coz it's not just a sport but it's a lifestyle. so I'll be training karate until I can't walk anymore LOL

  • @stoyashot this is a defense against a kick to your thigh. a thighkick wont sweet u off ur feet. against ur shin or calf is another matter...

  • @stoyashot it means if your kick hits ur oponent his kick might take u off balance but it will hurt him give u some time to get up or attack again

  • I dont know this looks pretty risky to me I mean a kyokushin kick is so strong that in this situation it could knock you off balance, to me I just block it normally with the shin of my leg then counter it with a combination of 1,2 punches and mwashi geri or hiza geri depending how close you are! good video though thanks for posting

  • If the attacker is a kicker, you cancel his advantage by coming in close and grappling. Throw-down and then ground and pound or pin/joint lock. This is the best way to defend yourself against roundhouse kicks. Strike a wrestler and wrestle a striker.

  • I will try it today! Thanks and Osu from Germany

  • I can see this working in a real fight if the kick in question is a "snapping" kick. But if that kick is a "full" kick then you are probably in trouble.

  • No, even in Muay Thai they teach this, although I think they call it a pendulum step. The only difference is that he went off to the side when he did it as a way to set up the spinning hook kick.

  • by turning into the kick like that you take the impact on the musclular part of the leg as a pose to the common peroneal nerve. Conditioning also plays a key factor. So to check a kick like this there is very little pain and damage

  • i wanna see this dude do this kick on the road with a jeans & without warming up!

  • exacly, and of course in winter!

  • @jerryx2000 I would like to see him practice it on you.

  • @3Tracker3 is he ur bf?

  • This would work better if the defender spins the other way. Move the target leg out of the way so the thigh kick misses us that momentum to do the spinning kick. I will get this on video next time I train so you can see what I mean.

  • First fighter kicks slowly but the second jumps at full speed to be in time. So it's impossible to perform it in real fight.

  • It's a demonstration. It might have been good to see a full speed demonstration but they chose not to show us that. Nonetheless, the basic technique is clear.

  • esatto e se il primo cacio fose lanciato prenderebbe le gambe di quello che salta

  • if a real mawashi is thrown and you get hit in the ballz( and it could ) or in the inner part of your leg like it should hit you , you are in big trouble . first of all it hurts ( maybe you can take the hit ) and secondly it would come with such force that it would make you fall as you change guard or try the ushiro kick :| . thats my oppinion

  • I practice Aikido and came up with a pretty good defense to this kick when I saw a gedan mawashigeri being taught on (I think) Fight Quest. It starts with a similar step into the kick - if nothing else, this limits it's power. Then you wrap up the ankle/calf area and turn back the way you came from while driving the knee to the ground - very easy, as the kicker is on one leg and off balance.

  • Pure awesomeness. 5 stars!!!!

  • Very nice!

  • why did he not continue to kick. he just stopped when the uke changed legs.

  • Because they're practicing a counter, not sparring?

  • yep......and.....Karate = warriors not athletes....

stop Kumite and continue with real Karate

  • the kicker will not stop the movement.he will continue and seek the oponent legs.its a circular kick not straight.wile the kicker make a litle jump changing the stance, this is the time to get he.

  • Absolutely.

  • Interesting...

  • lol i like this technique. I tried it during sparring and found it effective!

  • if you want to counter the kick you only force him to do and now youll know that he is about to use the m-g you dive it and when is over your head quickly cacht it then you can counter in his chest or right the face 2 points for sure.por la puta madre lo voy a intentar y si no funciona i am fuck.

  • Stupid and useless. It's way better (and more reasonable!) to go with mae geri to the chin, opponent is off balance. Sweeping the other leg is also a good counter. Punch in the face also. But this is just stupid. BTW the "counter" guy is getting kicked in the balls / knees. So this is REALLY stupid.

  • First time i see this and i am going to try.... see what happens :)

    osu

  • I tried it this week during sparring and believe me it Works! Great tip. Ous!

  • But if the attacker carried out the gedan mawashi geri correctly, the defender would be in fit state to turn and kick. This is one of those 'wouldn't it be cool if ... ' scenarios. Detached from the real world.

    Looks good on film though.

  • in fact, this tecnhique is not for a real fight, but for a full contact tournament, Kyokushin style.

  • stupid.

can't be done in real fight.

  • did you ever considered that a technique may not be tried just to be used as it is on a real fight but also to use just part of it or changed according to necessity?!

  • @fudino

is that you doing this ushiro mawashi geri..?

you've got a plain beauty technique

    fantastic job

I bet it must have taken many years of hard work..

of course it cannot be done as it is shown on this video,

but this is besides the point

it's a general balance and techniqe coordination excersise here..

truly beautiful timely ushiro mawashi geri cut..

    great control of your balance..

  • @fudino Adding on to your comment. True practitioners know this won't work in a real fight. The point of many of the drills in karate is to provide you with OPTIONS. If you have a vocabulary of things to respond with, naturally you will do something with the less intricacies, but if met with an odd attack/situation, you can quickly adapt. I mean, I could give you a fish or I could give you the fishing rod. It's your choice.

  • @fudino yes of course I would like to see what will you do if I use hand combo and than bum low kick but not k1one low kick now mawashigeri :) you would be happy that you can just rise up your knee to defend

  • @CerBBero as if you got something better

  • @CerBBero yeah ur right... this cant be applied in real time kumite.

  • @CerBBero Only you can't do that in real fight :P

  • @CerBBero Dude are you serious? Kyokushin is designed to be for real fights. It can't be done in a real fight if you don't train hard or you are a complete idiot...

  • @CerBBero despite what everyone else seems to think, im going to agree with you. i think its generally best not to do spin kicks in an actual fight. K.I.S.S.

  • @CerBBero it can when done correctly
