damn this is like one of the greatest tennis matches in history! Do you see how fast these 2 tennis players are playing. Congrats on Djokovic because the kid is a beast man, he is ferocious!
This was how djokovic should have played the Australian open 2012.Gaining control of a rally, pushing nadal far back behind the baseline then approaching the net, good luck to nadal in hitting a passing shot 15 feet behind the baseline.
djokovic is incredible. i use to not like him but he really is amazing. his attacking ability is extraordinary but his defense is out of this world. i may even say it might even be better than nadals. nadal is able to have good defensive cuz his shots have heavy spin and dont always move through the air fast. but djokovic does not do that, and still has this nadal like defence
This match was shorter than Australian final 2012 but it was better. There was 3 sets of high quality. Anyway, Djokovic deserves the two finals and it obvious we are in the best tennis era ever with this Big four.
31 grand slams at all ! French open is going to be very exciting because Djokovic is expecting to be the first man since Laver to win 4 grand slam consécutive. And Nadal, the first man with 7 wins at R. Garros.
I agree with you. This US Open final was the best Djokovic-Nadal slam final in terms of quality of tennis. The Australian Open 2012 was spectacular because of the drama involved and the physical and mental intenseness. But in terms of quality of tennis the 2011 US Open final was better.
Now looking forward to French Open 2012. See if Nadal can stay on top at clay or that he loses his dominance at clay. If both reach the final it could become a match for the ages.
whats with this commentator? "damn look at Nadal" Amazing shot "Nadal with the comeback" "Nadal has so much enegry" and then "Look at Nadal go" ...Djokovic just got the point "what an amazing play by Nadal" ... WTF?!? how bout Djokovic? u know hes plying too right!?!
@acejia8 Theyre not that bad, at least not as bad as the spanish commentators. If you know spanish, you know how they cant stop praising Nadal, to the point where they cheer for Nadal in between rallies. Compared to that this video is pretty neutral.
Nadal needs that backhand down the line, gimelstob and davenport were suggesting a few nights ago that he go down the line with the forehand sooner, but that'll just raise his unforced errors. Unlike djokovic, nadal lacks the authority to hit his backhand down the line and he's just content playing crosscourt balls. Too many of the shots did nadal run around the backhand to ht the forehand. Just didn't do enough damage
@eggrolleggroll nadal dont have talent to take on the rise and hit it flat. Even his fh down the line is top spin and slow, djokovic will rush to reset the ball to nadal's backhand. Not to mention nadal hitting DTL will cause more errors. Nadal's backhand needless to say is a liability nowadays. No useful shot from nadal backhand.
Secondly, I think Nadal trying to hit the ball hard on the Djokovic's backhand plays right into his hands....For me Nadal should hit the ball with less pace and concentrate more on depth...and only hit the ball hard when there's a good chance that it will end up being a winner....anyways....that's me and i could be wrong.
Here's my take....you may think that i'm a crackhead...but I think Nadal's best chance to beat Djokovic is on a fast court like that of the US Open....if you see this was a much closer match than in Wimbledon and the other two clay court matches where Nadal lost.....
You're not a crackhead; in fact, I agree with you. I too noticed that Djokovic beat Nadal more easily on clay last year but truth be told it was one way traffic at Wimbledon and the USO as well. What should scare Nadal is that if Djokovic keeps it up and can keep beating Nadal on clay then Nadal ranking could drop and Djokovic desperately wants a FO crown this year.
Astounding skills, stupendous physical ability and unimaginable mental strength: all that is there; but amidst all of this I see two young fresh people slowly destroying each other...
How long will they be able to keep this up? Will the future of tennis consist only of players whose careers span two or three years at the most?
he would have crushed nadal so badly at roland garros !!!! lets hope for a nadal vs fed AO semi..so if nadal prevails at least gets his butt kicked again by djoker..it is just amazing to watch..there is nothing nadal can do..djoker is too much for him...
@DanimalLawlz excuses and excuses, tony nadal said that rafa wasn't playing bad at rome and madrid, he said that those where great victories for djokovic
i hope djokovic will be so strong next year as well. I don't expect him to defend all 10 titles but at least those 3 grand slams. Moreover i want him to dominate nadal the way he did this year
this match was so great. i remember the times when rafa could defeat djokovic so easily with such effort. And now after all the hard work he submitted he managed to win only one set. After that he was lucky that djokovic didn't bagel him
I'm not so sure Nadal ever beat Djokovic easily. In fact, prior to this year, Djokovic had a winning record against Rafa on hard courts - beating him in straight sets several times - and had played him well on clay including Madrid where he had two match points against Rafa in 2009. As much as Djokovic has improved what made the difference is being fit enough to stay with Rafa. Of all the top players Djokovic was the first to show how to break Rafa down. 2012 should be awesome.
Best of three matches in which Djokovic was beaten 7-5 hardly qualifies as easy by my criterion. And, in 2007 Djokovic had maybe two titles - hardly a fair fight when Nadal had been a seasoned pro for six years and was already the best clay court player in the world. What I am trying to point out is that clay excluded since Djokovic beat Rafa at IW in 2007 Rafa has never been more than a 50-50 bet to defeat Djoker. My bet is that Djokovic evens up the H2H by end of 2012.
a 7-5 set is hard... but when the other set is 6-0, 6-1, 6-2 or 6-3, then, it clearly qualifies as ''easy'' in anyone's criterion... unless you're an idiot...
Also, Jokovish had 7 titles at the end of 2007... and as far as I know, it was Nadal who beated Jokovish (CRUSHED him, in fact) at IW in 2007 (even if Jokovish'd go onto thrash Nadal himself at the 2007 Miami Master Series final, the very next event they'd go onto play)...
@911801111801 Matches in which Djokovic has crushed Nadal. 2007 Miami - 6 3 , 6-4 2007 Montreal - 7-5 , 6-3 2008 Indian Wells - 6-2 , 6-3 2009 , Cincinnati - 6-1 , 6-4 2009 Paris - 6-2 , 6-3 2009 WTF's 7-6 , 6-3 2011 Madrid - 7-5 , 6-4 2011 Rome - 6-4 6-4 2011 Wimbledon - 64 , 61 , 16 , 63 + he's on a 6 match unbeaten run against Nadal! What do u have to say now ?
Hmm....I don't agree with some of the comments saying the crowd was biased towards Nadal the whole match. I was lucky enough to be part of that crowd, and let me tell you, half the time (particularly in the 1st 2 sets, and towards the latter half of the 4th) Novak's name was being chanted across the whole stadium. The crowd was firmly behind him.
However, I will agree they (we?) were severely biased in the 3rd set, because everyone wanted more tennis and Americans love comebacks.
You were indeed very lucky if you were there. It was probably one of the best tennis matches of all time. Especially the rallies were among the best ever played in a slam final.
@2millionlightyears I will never deny it was a fantastic match, but it was painful for me. You see, I'm a Fedal fan; I love them both. And, while I respect him, I'm not a fan of Novak. So to see Nadal get thrashed around (bar the 3rd set) it was hard to bear. Coupled with the fact that I've ALWAYS wanted to see Fedal in-person & that it was SO close to actually happening (that semi was heartbreaking for me), I was just crushed. I will never deny it was an amazing match though
I think this match would've been better if Nadal actually tries and finish the match...I mean some of his winners are truly insane and awesome, but the other half of the time it seems to me like he's only running and returning the ball to Djokovic. Just my opinion but had he tried to maybe volley and little more or some kind of strategic way to end the point quickly so Djokovic doesn't get the upperhand, he might have had a better chance.
"oh my goodness......just when you thought his heart might have been broken..." just gotta love that third set...for the fighting spirit nadal comes up with, djokovic's irresistible play and the tennis produced by these ingredients!
I have to say i didn't accept Djokovic as number one even after the Wimbledon Final. But here Djokovic beat him at his own game hands down. What a match.
te querías matar, Nadal!! La cara de odio hacia Djokovic era increíble! Un grano en la cola, definitivamente. Nole es para Nadal a partir de ahora, lo que Nadal a Roger, sobre todo en polvo de ladrillo...
i have never seen nadal react to a point like that 3:30-3:32
and the point afterwards shows nole has the best defence to attack that the game has ever seen, unfucking believable,i still shake my head in disbelief.if fed won he wouldnt of should a chance in hell of winning a set
match of the year followed by nole v fed roland garros followed by fed v nole us open
strange thing is that federer had 2 match points on his own serve to beat djokovic and if he would have won i dont think he would have had much chance if he would have played nadal in final yet he always seems to do well against djokovic but nadal just cant get near djokovic but always does well against federer how different styles match up against each other thats why people love watching these guys..
Probably the most physically intense match I've ever seen. The rallies in this match were absolutely unbelievable. They're semi-final in Madrid in 2009 was exactly the same but that was on clay. This was a hard court so they must have been debilitated after. You can see Nadal is gone by the fourth set. Cannot wait for the Australian Open 2012 now!!!
Rafa goes dtl with his forehand, steps into the court, only to have the ball returned deep,to his backhand,he goes behind the baseline, becoming the defender instead.
It is important to note that djokovic played the match with an injured back.which is why some of his overheads suck so much
the thing i cant believe is that djokovic broke rafas serve a staggering 12 times, half the amount of games he actually won,no doubt a carrer lowlight for nadal, that loss must of hurt, djokovic raped him harder than a pimp rapes his hoes
Novak Djokovic has not only improved on his shots, but the mental side of things he has improved on more. 15-40 against Federer in the semis, but had the mental strength to pull himself back into the game.
Every Nadal’s winner has a praising comment. Just watch carefully and you will see that Djokovic does not get a fraction of media cover that he deserves.
Go and check ATP site. There is no Djokovic on home page (ONLY Nadal and Federer). Shame!!!
@mirko59 You're right. He deserves much more recognition than he gets. He has been playing for years with Federer and Nadal, but it was always just looked at them . Now he is number 1, and nothing really changed, which I do not understand. He showed the World, that he can beat Federer and Nadal in the Grand Slams and finally won three Slams in this Year..
What do you mean by "nothing really changed"? He's a totally different (better) player this year than he was last year or any other year in his career.
@WorldsTennis24 though I agree that djoko deserves a lot of coverage, his reputation is nowhere near that of nadals, which is no where near that of federers (2nd most respected person in the world according to some pole). What federer and nadal have done for tennis transcends almost anything djokovic could ever do because of the appeal of them both. Federer has got the classy image and charity work (obvs, most sports people have), but he is someone genuinely involved in a lot of the work......
@WorldsTennis24 ........ his image makes it brilliant for sponsorship of things like banks (credit suisse) and is the only remaining sporting personality from the 3 Gillette ads, and even things like Mercedes. That's just his image, its better for a classy suisse guy to be on a classy car ad as opposed to a screaming serbian (i mean that in a good way). Nadal has his obvious appeal for young kids and has done armani jeans ads. Given both nadal and federer have almost cornered the market for..
@WorldsTennis24 all tennis players it is always gonnab be difficult for djokovic. Even then, djokovics game style is brutally affective, and brilliant to watch, but it isn't all that different from other past greats or great players if you adjust for time. Federer and nadal bring something very different to the table which adds to the respect they deserve. I'm defo not saying that he doesn't deserve masses of credit, but he has a long way to even come close to the rep that Fed and Nadal deserve
@WorldsTennis24 to get the attention you say he deserves, he must do something anybody has ever done...win 3 majors in a year? well...rafa and roger already got that feat...federer having reached it 3 times already...the winning streak was surprising, and he got the world's attention because of that, then the attention went to federer when he brought it to an end...finish the year with "only" 6 losses and 70 wins...well Federer has finished the year with 81- 4 once on 2005 and 92-5 on 2006
@WorldsTennis24 Conclusion: The guy outclassed this season, finaly broke in into the top of the tennis world, but in order to get more credit, the guy must try harder...the bar is already set way too high, shame for him, because he did play realy good this season, but not enough...
@WorldsTennis24 his season is a very good season, but doesn't mean he's the only person who has achieved that kind of season..true that he should get more recognition, but at the same time, just cause he's not on the homepage doesn't mean anything..he still number one, so what if he doesn't get media coverage, at least it doesn't affect his playing..and if he can repeat the 2011 season, well you'll see media coverage and him on the homepage soon enough..
@mirko59 I agree. Nadal's shots are praised more vs Djokovic. Think of it this way. The commentators are looking for possible glee for Nadal's fan because Djokovic just hammers him.
@mirko59 I agree. Nadal's shots are praised more vs Djokovic. Think of it this way. The commentators are looking for possible glee for Nadal's fan because Djokovic just hammers him.
@mirko59 sorry i don't agree about the commentators, i think infact it goes the other way as they are stunned into silence as djokovic's play is just incredible! I listened point by point and there wasn't much difference perhaps the second commentator is overawed by nadal's immense defence but its hard not to be. I do agree that he isn't given the same amount of praise that fed and nadal received but if he keeps on doing it they will have to surely!
@mirko59 You seem to forget Nadal came into this match the clear underdog. He had already lost 5 times coming into this match. And Djokovic has received lots of attention.
Without Nadal and Federer the sport wouldn't be where it's at today so they also deserve recognition. Federer is still the greatest athlete in the entire world for all the charity and goodwill work he does.
Federer,Nadal and Djokovic.. who's the greatest??? None. Because all have they're own records which can't be broken.
I was laughing because no matter how hard he tries, how many dances or imitations he makes. The Americans will never love him as they love the great Federer and the great Nadal. He is the third wheel. The Americans love seeing him lose and they will see him lose once he is no longer allowed to cheat with the CVAC compression chamber.
FACT: djokovic has never lost a final where he has won the first set. That was the case in madrid against nadal this year, so I assume its still the case now (given hes only lost twice) i think hes something like 20-0, which is an interesting stat
Some of the points in this match were like so much better than any of the rallies that Federer and Nadal have had in the past...! Insane ! Especially 5:38 and 8:34 !
@TheFedererNadallover yeah but between this match and the match of federer and djokovic, the fed djok match was much more enticing and way better..the match here are so practically them smashing the balls..now the fed and djok match is a match that really gets you on your feet...too bad fed couldn't convert but props to djokovic for turning the tables and staying true until the end.
Nadal gives a great insight into his camp's fears of Djokovic in his book. Even back in 2007 they all knew Djokovic could be World Number 1. I think Rafa even says that before the US Open final in 2010, that he doubted if he could beat Djokovic. Psychologically, it's taken an enormous toll on Nadal these past six losses
Generally, đokovic just has that little technical dimension more in the game than nadal. by that,i mean-he is more talented. not too talented, but still enough..we saw a little bit of that in 2008 when he won AO and Indian Wells. that all experts said, that if he could just keep up,he would be no.1. he "waited" three years to show us how really good he is. nadal? i said it after wimbly,he can only pray thjat nole comes down,as he sain at the press after wim.final : this level is not forever...
one of the main reason that nadal have lost to djokovic for the last 6 times in finals is because of his serve nadal was up 2 game to love in both first two sets and could'nt held his own serve and also he makes more unforced erros than usual but he really tried very hard to stay on the match .. i really hope he beat djokovic next time
Sometimes .. when Djokovic and Nadal have this FH vs BH exchanges one feels that the djokovic BH is just as good if not better than Nadal's FH , it just never breaks down!!!
those fucking commentators just kept praising after every point even when it's won by nole and when the match comes to the end they just got sad and didn't even talk about about how wonderful he plays in 4th set after all that pain and tiredness
great man nadal, in the end when they were at the net you can hear nadal asking nole: "Are you ok?" even after losing such a great match :)...and congrats to nole, he's the best!
i agree. the videos show not only the highlights but also the players reaction afterwards and the commentary. thus, the viewer gets a sense of the drama and emotions in the match. i absolutely love this. kudos to you worldstennis24 cuz sometimes watching the tennis alone gets repetitive.

However, I will agree they (we?) were severely biased in the 3rd set, because everyone wanted more tennis and Americans love comebacks.
sasook 2 months ago
@sasook
You were indeed very lucky if you were there. It was probably one of the best tennis matches of all time. Especially the rallies were among the best ever played in a slam final.
2millionlightyears 2 months ago
@2millionlightyears I will never deny it was a fantastic match, but it was painful for me. You see, I'm a Fedal fan; I love them both. And, while I respect him, I'm not a fan of Novak. So to see Nadal get thrashed around (bar the 3rd set) it was hard to bear. Coupled with the fact that I've ALWAYS wanted to see Fedal in-person & that it was SO close to actually happening (that semi was heartbreaking for me), I was just crushed. I will never deny it was an amazing match though
sasook 2 months ago
@sasook To see the cheater trashed around is always great.

I think this match would've been better if Nadal actually tries and finish the match...I mean some of his winners are truly insane and awesome, but the other half of the time it seems to me like he's only running and returning the ball to Djokovic. Just my opinion but had he tried to maybe volley and little more or some kind of strategic way to end the point quickly so Djokovic doesn't get the upperhand, he might have had a better chance.

and the point afterwards shows nole has the best defence to attack that the game has ever seen, unfucking believable,i still shake my head in disbelief.if fed won he wouldnt of should a chance in hell of winning a set

strange thing is that federer had 2 match points on his own serve to beat djokovic and if he would have won i dont think he would have had much chance if he would have played nadal in final yet he always seems to do well against djokovic but nadal just cant get near djokovic but always does well against federer how different styles match up against each other thats why people love watching these guys..

Keega 4 months ago 4
Nadal cant finish off points against djokovic.
Djokovic's defense-offense completely owns rafa.
Rafa goes dtl with his forehand, steps into the court, only to have the ball returned deep,to his backhand,he goes behind the baseline, becoming the defender instead.
It is important to note that djokovic played the match with an injured back.which is why some of his overheads suck so much

Commentators are biased more than a crowd.
Every Nadal’s winner has a praising comment. Just watch carefully and you will see that Djokovic does not get a fraction of media cover that he deserves.
Go and check ATP site. There is no Djokovic on home page (ONLY Nadal and Federer). Shame!!!
mirko59 5 months ago 37
@mirko59 You're right. He deserves much more recognition than he gets. He has been playing for years with Federer and Nadal, but it was always just looked at them . Now he is number 1, and nothing really changed, which I do not understand. He showed the World, that he can beat Federer and Nadal in the Grand Slams and finally won three Slams in this Year..

What do you mean by "nothing really changed"? He's a totally different (better) player this year than he was last year or any other year in his career.
Mewstor151 4 months ago
@WorldsTennis24 though I agree that djoko deserves a lot of coverage, his reputation is nowhere near that of nadals, which is no where near that of federers (2nd most respected person in the world according to some pole). What federer and nadal have done for tennis transcends almost anything djokovic could ever do because of the appeal of them both. Federer has got the classy image and charity work (obvs, most sports people have), but he is someone genuinely involved in a lot of the work......
Peaches1822 3 months ago
@WorldsTennis24 ........ his image makes it brilliant for sponsorship of things like banks (credit suisse) and is the only remaining sporting personality from the 3 Gillette ads, and even things like Mercedes. That's just his image, its better for a classy suisse guy to be on a classy car ad as opposed to a screaming serbian (i mean that in a good way). Nadal has his obvious appeal for young kids and has done armani jeans ads. Given both nadal and federer have almost cornered the market for..
Peaches1822 3 months ago
@WorldsTennis24 all tennis players it is always gonnab be difficult for djokovic. Even then, djokovics game style is brutally affective, and brilliant to watch, but it isn't all that different from other past greats or great players if you adjust for time. Federer and nadal bring something very different to the table which adds to the respect they deserve. I'm defo not saying that he doesn't deserve masses of credit, but he has a long way to even come close to the rep that Fed and Nadal deserve
Peaches1822 3 months ago
@WorldsTennis24 And not only one fuckin time
colin0622 3 months ago
@WorldsTennis24 to get the attention you say he deserves, he must do something anybody has ever done...win 3 majors in a year? well...rafa and roger already got that feat...federer having reached it 3 times already...the winning streak was surprising, and he got the world's attention because of that, then the attention went to federer when he brought it to an end...finish the year with "only" 6 losses and 70 wins...well Federer has finished the year with 81- 4 once on 2005 and 92-5 on 2006

@WorldsTennis24 Conclusion: The guy outclassed this season, finaly broke in into the top of the tennis world, but in order to get more credit, the guy must try harder...the bar is already set way too high, shame for him, because he did play realy good this season, but not enough...
nandouniandino 3 months ago
@nandouniandino i agree..gotta repeat it and show that he can keep up that type of play..
azncoolboii 2 months ago
@WorldsTennis24 his season is a very good season, but doesn't mean he's the only person who has achieved that kind of season..true that he should get more recognition, but at the same time, just cause he's not on the homepage doesn't mean anything..he still number one, so what if he doesn't get media coverage, at least it doesn't affect his playing..and if he can repeat the 2011 season, well you'll see media coverage and him on the homepage soon enough..
azncoolboii 2 months ago

TennisCoachno1 5 months ago
@mirko59 You seem to forget Nadal came into this match the clear underdog. He had already lost 5 times coming into this match. And Djokovic has received lots of attention.
Without Nadal and Federer the sport wouldn't be where it's at today so they also deserve recognition. Federer is still the greatest athlete in the entire world for all the charity and goodwill work he does.
Federer,Nadal and Djokovic.. who's the greatest??? None. Because all have they're own records which can't be broken.
ruaridh2k7 4 months ago 2
@mirko59 He's deserving enough, it's not like he's been left out in the dark completely.
BrotherTree1 4 months ago 2
I was laughing because no matter how hard he tries, how many dances or imitations he makes. The Americans will never love him as they love the great Federer and the great Nadal. He is the third wheel. The Americans love seeing him lose and they will see him lose once he is no longer allowed to cheat with the CVAC compression chamber.
Wacken5150 5 months ago
@Wacken5150
From all of this, you concluded that Djokovic wants to please Americans??? You are sick man.
He proudly plays under Serbian flag!!!!
Everyone is trying to stop him (Roger, Nadal, crowd, ..) and guess what: Djokovic just shows that he is stronger then all of them together.
They will hate him even more after this (just look at RF interview), but hate only leads to self-destruction .....

Keega 5 months ago
