The beginning of this video reminds me of a mud trail i took my 4 cyl tacoma through with 31 mud tires i was in lo 4 in 4th gear going 30mph! some of that mud you have to keep insane momentum to not get stuck

I love my '95 XJ. Although I drive 99% in town and only 2-3 times a year to the outskirts. I couldn't drive another car. Tried them all, got back to my Jeep and knew why I had it. LOVE it. One Question: Will the Differentials suck in water when not modified and under water? Or can I go diving, as long as I keep the Air Intake (No Snorkel) above water?

@Vollhirni Yes, you should probably change the gear fluid after long periods under water or very deep water crossings. Check tranny fluid for water too. they all need to be snorkeled and waterproofed.

The inline 4.0 can take rpms all day long and produced rather decent torque at low rpm. The 5.2 sounds better but typically doesn't have the same durability to withstand such abuse.

the 4.0 I6 is litterally known as THE best internal combustion engine ever designed. A 5.9 or 4.7 may give you more horses and more torque...but the weight will kill you in snow or mudpits...even on the rocks. not only that but the I6 will do about 5-8 mpg better than the 5.9. The 4.0 has a tranny (aisin-warner 4) thats A LOT more reliable than a torqueflite tranny(which the 5.9,4.7, and 5.2 came with) they are all four speeds. really, you buy a V8 for speed or racing. the I6 is offroad king

i see your reasoning. I would agree L6 designs are far superior to most others. it's funny you mention the v8 for racing, however the L6 shows up again. All forms of supra with it's 2.5 or 3.0 L6 Turbo (can be fast as shit) and the 2.6L Skyline L6s. The build life is just so much longer.. I don't see as many v8's lasting 250-300k as I do L6s. Onward to turbo 4.0! lol Good discussion!

exactly, but the I6 is a"torque based"motor,the horsepower of my powertech I6 is about 190,BUT it pushes at about 230lb ft of torque. the average 4.7 pushes about 230 hp and about 270-300 lb ft of torque. now thats just measuring the motors HP.The thing is, most V8s have a higher gearing meaning that they take longer to accelerate(because the rear wheel horses and torque is actually way less than the motor puts out)the I6 in my jeep however,has a4speed trans-i push about the same in total torque

Yea u might sink in mud and snow but with a good set of tires you got plenty of power to get urself out i have 5.9 limited now and ive have a wrangler with 3 inch lift and 33s that went anywhere and the I6 and i wouldve killed to get the 5.9 or a 5.2 in my wrangler
