Calling Netanyahu "hardline" is biased, but I think the view of Abbas as "moderate" seems to be more wishful thinking than anything else. The West sees any Arab that doesn't make angry speaches about killing Jews and crowns him as a liberal" even if they deny the Holocaust, seek to deny a people self-determination, or allow the government to pay for antisemitic propaghanda on the airwaves.

Abbas did not simply "question the scope". He vastly undercounted the number of deaths and suggested that there was no program of mass killing, a textbook case of Holocaust denial.
