  • Also something to keep in mind for those who do not live here: St Louis county will activate the entire siren array as soon as a warning is issued, NOT just when a storm is imminent, the idea being to get you into vigilance/response mode instead of omg-it's-right-there-let's-panic mode.

I for one am grateful for this policy: many times I've been ignorant of the weather, then the sirens prompt to me take action.

It's an interesting ambiance in that SOMETHING is happening.

  • I used to live a block from Ronnie's Plaza about a year ago. Not sure if you know what kind of siren is installed next to the theater, but that sucker is LOUD!

I live in Normandy now, up in North St Louis County and had a crazy experience during the tornado that near-missed us Friday, April 22nd.......heard the sirens activate, then during the roar of the storm I heard the siren to the north in the Ferguson/Florissant area just STOP mid-wail....scary to know a tornado just destroyed it

  • where is the thunderbolt siren at?? kirkwood?

  • @TheThunderboltFreak

Yup. Sitting by the Magic house.

  • not laughing at you though.

  • i never thought that a tornado warning sound would be nice ambience.....i would be vomiting adrenline and blood if i heard that....prob die if i heard that................scared half to death b4 i died and vomited blood if i heard that

  • @gymnast5601

I love ambiance. a lot. So much. It's spooky as crap but just gorgeous.

  • @VMFA115Starloric lol......... ya i guess id have to get used to it

  • @VMFA115Starloric lol its kinda funny. well your kinda funny because the tornado sirens are meant to get people to shelter but your outside listening to them. lol. it seems scary.

  • I live in St. Ann, MO, we have one of the Whelen 4004's...and that thing is loud, it's about 2 blocks from my house. I think this was the night some of ours malfunctioned, causing i think a Tbolt to wind up and wind down for at least an hour. It was almost spooky hearing the Tbolt do that.

  • that's what it sounded like in Soulard...we opened one of our livingroom windows and could hear a few different sirens, including one that sounded very bizzare - couldn't tell what it was, though...

  • could you get videos of the Thunderbolt 1000T and 2T22 during the next tests

  • They sounded the sirens twice that night.

  • Good video! Nice ambience. Do St. Louis County's sirens have a voice system as well (most Whelens do)? I'm in Cedar Rapids, IA and all of our sirens are Whelens (the few remaining T-Bolts were replaced in 2007). They do have voice capabilities but I only hear that on test days. For some reason they stopped doing the announcements for tornado warnings.

  • @matrim5473

Nah, STLCO doesn't do voice. They might have stopped doing voice alerts because the voice doesn't carry very well.

  • @VMFA115Starloric

This is probably a really stupid question, but does St. Louis County include the city of St. Louis itself?

    Please reply!

    =P

  • @MCCsLife

The only stupid question is one not asked!

No, it doesn't. STL County includes cities stretching from Crestwood to St. Charles I think.

  • @VMFA115Starloric

WOW! That makes perfect sense! LOL!

    (._.)

    Anyways, nice video!

    =)
